Queeriods. "How to talk inclusively about periods."

I saw this on a Twitter thread of Glinner, in which he said I'd better be careful. I'm extremely drunk and might tweet something like "Women menstruate".

I followed a few of the tweets and found this website :

periodpositive.wordpress.com/

This is where apparently media & menstrual product companies now working from and get the language. All about "inclusive" language. The words "woman", "feminine", "female" are taboo.

Grovelling apologies offered; I would have thought this was satire had I seen it anywhere else:

Queeriods?

I'm done.

I don't hear blind people objecting to the words "see" or "sight" or throwing tantrums when we use phrases like "use your eyes" or "shouda gone to Specsavers".

No you don't, but I have seen identitarians doing this.

I remember Lily Madigan saying something along the lines of 'are you blind' and being pulled up for being ablist. Madigan replied that she identified as being partially sighted and so wasn't being ablist.

And there is the wonderful example of replacing applause with jazz hands.

Thing is, I went for about a year without a period because of medical treatment I was having, so I 'didn't have periods' but I still think I considered myself a 'menstruator' because my menstrual cycle was there, it had just been halted. Same when I was pregnant.

So actually I find the 'doesn't have periods = non-menstruator' highly offensive and demand that they change this immediately to make it more inclusive of MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

The way that 'woman' is being erased like some dirty word akin to the N word, or 'spastic' or something is rather horrifying to be honest.

Michelleoftheresistance · 21/06/2020 10:06

“The automatic association between menstruation and women that almost everybody makes seems impossible to break. Whenever an ad comes up for a menstrual product, it shows young women.”

That would be because more than 99% of those who menstruate, will menstruate or have ever menstruated, have no problem with the knowledge that menstruation only happens to female people, and with calling themselves women.

And inclusion is about adding . Nothing wrong with adding words to labels, adding greater diversity to adverts, but this lobby group don't want inclusion, they want to replace and erase the core group as if they are the only ones who exist, menstruate and matter. And who want to turn the words woman and female into some kind of dirty secret no one may mention.

And there, in a nutshell, you have almost all the issues with this political movement. Which less wins hearts, minds and sympathies of those they're trampling all over than an increasingly resounding get your stomping great feet off my boundaries.

NoraEphronsneck · 21/06/2020 10:07

The irony of a 'flow chart' 😬

Mascotte · 21/06/2020 10:09

I'm feeling really queasy after reading the "word" Queeriods 🤢

Cross post Ender and much better put.

When you look at the terms that have become dirty words, it is because they are insulting and derogatory to the person they are applied to. This new and exiting anti-female movement is using the veneer of political correctness but the dirty word does not describe the person they wish to protect. The dirty word is to vanish those people from other people's vocabulary. It's like a toddler pushing aside another child and shouting at you "look at me "

Alongside, with, no one would mind in the slightest. Replacing and erasing? Yeah, you and General Custer can fuck off with that.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 21/06/2020 10:10

I'm a non-menstruator but I'm still a bloody woman. Being a woman has dictated huge parts of my life.

It's definitely time to move to a smallholding at the end of a lane.

SarahTancredi · 21/06/2020 10:12

Why isn't there a massive push to get sanitary product bins /dispensers into ALL men's toilets ... You'know if men menstruate too? Why aren't men asked to give up space and resources to include people who identify as transmen

It's only a fairly recent thing isnt it, that schools have started providing free period products to girls in school to enable them to attend if their parents were neglecting their needs or unable to afford sanpro.

Are they really going to waste half of the limited funds/supplies putting them in the boys toilets?

Michelleoftheresistance · 21/06/2020 10:18

Because the root of trying to separate menstruation from female people isn't about TM and meeting their needs. TM don't have this kind of power or voice because they are female, and many TM who haven't taken medication to stop their periods use female facilities for obvious safety reasons. This is for TW, not TM.

If they were one of the schools that have fallen to the woke, then why not? If they are letting boys into the female toilets then I, as a parent would be demanding that they provide sanitary bins in the male toilets. They can put their money where their mouth is.

Precisely. They dont want or need it but they dont want women to have it either. Given it was only very recently the tax on tampons was abolished so they have been seen as luxury products for decades, in their eyes women and girls are getting freebies that men and boys arent .so they want to make damn sure they are included even if that means girls get less.

I think there is talk about this. Not for period products but for bladder control products. Which makes a whole lot of sense for everyone.

But it doesn’t mean that women can be dehumanized by erasing the word women from communication about periods and other biological processes unique to us.

twoHopes · 21/06/2020 10:41

This really is the most dipshit incoherent statement.

  1. How do you know they identify as women? And not men or non-binary? Why are you presuming someone's pronouns?!

  2. Many, many transmen have said that they don't appreciate people constantly pointing out the fact that they have a vagina/menstruate. Are we going to put transwomen in men's shaving adverts showng them shaving their stubble every morning? No - of course we're not, because it's only ever women who must be inclusive of trans people, never men.

littlbrowndog · 21/06/2020 10:43

Halfwits everywhere 😝🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

FlamingoAndJohn · 21/06/2020 10:44

If I were a trans man I have to say that one of the first things I would do would be to go on the depo injection or take the pill back to back to get rid of my periods.
I’m a woman and I’ve done that because I simply got fed up with having them.

Toilenstripes · 21/06/2020 10:45

They’ll be doing away with Mother’s Day soon. I give you “People’s Day“ folks!

“Women and children first” nope, “People and children...”

Sarahandco · 21/06/2020 10:46

Queeriods? surely that is offensive to someone?

I would be interested to know how many men need to buy their product versus women.

BrummyMum1 · 21/06/2020 10:46

I'm really confused, if we aren't allowed to use the word "women" than "trans women are women" doesn't work as a statement. Or are we just not allowed to use the word "women" for menstrual products? Because I'm pretty sure women would want to know about menstrual products. (Genuinely confused).

SarahTancredi · 21/06/2020 10:48

It's made even worse given rubycup know lack of products means that girls miss school In africa so much so they donate a cup to a school girl fir every one purchases.

How much do you think they ask the girls if they identify as girls. How do they identify which children to give limited supplies to?

Does it not strike them as odd that it's only privileged snowflakes in developed countries who are making a fuss about this. How many school girls in kenya have got in a strop and walked out the line refusing their cup because no one asked for their pronouns Hmm

BrummyMum1 · 21/06/2020 10:48

*then

Sarahandco · 21/06/2020 10:51

@SarahTancredi That was my first thought when I saw that they donate to girls in Africa.

borntobequiet · 21/06/2020 10:57

Someone must have had to think really hard to produce that flow chart. (And yes, the unintended fun in the name of it.)

SarahTancredi · 21/06/2020 11:03

That was my first thought when I saw that they donate to girls in Africa

Think they should also hit reddit and the farms to see how many men with a period fetish there are and how being able to answer male under the gender heading and fill out a survey about period products would play right into that.

Course the actions of a few men shouldnt result in transmen being able to offer their feedback. But it highlights why sex should be what's asked and an option for transman/non binary added perhaps. In fact they could add extra empty feed back boxes there couldn't they? So that transmen could mention about what improvements could be made to accommodate any issues they have from medication etc?
