Just seen this on Twitter.

For those who like their Ginger Shampoo, can I suggest MooGoo.

Also, Aveeno is a good replacement for their Shea butter.

Other thoughts welcome. Feel free to suggest other ideas.

This thread prompted me to go and read JKR's essay instead of my knee-jerk reaction to listen to my woke friends who are being exceptionally echo-chamber-y right now. I was ready to refute what she said, but actually I found it to be thought provoking, eloquent, and all bloody good points that I agreed with. I feel really bad that I assumed she was wrong.
She is not transphobic. She isn't. The anti-woman movement is attacking her because she's an easy target for their stupid swarm of bees.
Now I see this whole thing for what it is, and I'm horrified (and cross with myself for jumping to conclusions) because I have no idea what I can do about it, it's like an out of control train that won't be derailed until it's destroyed everything. If they want to take down anyone at all - anyone - all they have to do is tell the world that person is transphobic and wait for the allies to destroy that person.

And I really liked the damn ginger shampoo too. Does anyone know if Lush is still decent?

Ninkanink · 10/06/2020 23:37

No, Lush is just as bad. On many levels.

PamDenick · 10/06/2020 23:39

The Body Shop twitter account that I’ve just taken a look at has pinned tweets regarding period poverty and support for domestic violence.
Has someone done some damage limitatuon?

FantaOra · 10/06/2020 23:39

I agree it's unlikely the UK firm would be tweeting that obscure trans obsessed male academic in New York at JKR. You have to really be US centric to be that certain the whole world has to swallow all of your cultural outpourings.

Ninkanink · 10/06/2020 23:41

There’s just as much of that shit here in the U.K.

I made the same turn around last year when I started really listening to women and not just what I was told was the acceptable view point. It was so so depressing for me to face the reality. I almost wish I could buy into the TRA ideology because it would be so much easier to shout “TERF” and then not even consider the consequences on women.
viques · 10/06/2020 23:43

Anita Roddick will be turning in her grave.

Btw, while everyone is boycotting Bodyshop don't forget to boycott Avon and Aesop products as well. Same company.

Cailleach1 · 10/06/2020 23:43

Yes, L'Oriel apparently think Munroe calling someone "a big hairy dyke with a barren womb" is ok now."

Oh my goodness. That is an ugly and very male thing to say about a woman. Only putting a woman in her place.

Thisismytimetoshine · 10/06/2020 23:45

@viques

Anita Roddick will be turning in her grave.

Oh, interesting, I didn't know that.
FantaOra · 10/06/2020 23:47

Great that you took the time to listen to the woman. Terrible that so many people don't do that.

We have had a lot of success pushing back, we really have. Don't dispair, speak up.

ToujoursABjetaime · 10/06/2020 23:49

First post on here.
Just wrote this to their CEO:

"The viscious attacks on JK Rowling following her fact-based, non-discriminatory remarks on Twitter recently, and your company's tasteless use of the situation to add to that bullying purely for publicity, will drive away your customer base.

I thought you should be informed so that the intern responsible can be held to account."

Just you ride that woke wave onto the rocks BS, you'd sold your souls anyway so may as well go out in style.

Oh and to the hateful minority of trans people, stop speaking for the silent majority of others please. This is not helping to end discrimination.

Stop screaming and listen.

Crystaltree · 10/06/2020 23:51

I never really understood the phrase 'sell out' until Anita flogged BS to L'Oreal.

WhatTiggersDoBest · 10/06/2020 23:57

Damnit so where can I get hair wash?

@AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken It won't let me quote you, but yes, 100%, it would be a lot easier to be able to uncritically go along with the narrative. I literally don't know how to talk to my Facebook friends now. Although I've been thinking since lockdown that I need to find some new friends for various different reasons.

WhatTiggersDoBest · 10/06/2020 23:59

I should add I need overly-specific hair wash that won't make my frizz any worse than it already is, and which won't make my colour go weird. Grin I might have to look at cottage industry type local brands.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 11/06/2020 00:00

What did Yorkshire tea do?

Told people who complained that they (Yorkshire Tea) weren't supporting trans rights and they would stop buying their tea bags - "Bye, then."

BreasticlesNotTesticles · 11/06/2020 00:00

sexandgenderintro.com/ Is a really good intro @Seasidetrains

If you remove biological sex then who has prostrate cancer? Who is at risk of endometriosis? Would you have a sexual relationship if you were a straight woman with a trans man?

If you look at gender, then you're looking at societal stereotypes. So how society expects a woman to act. So what does that do except enforce those stereotypes?

If being a woman is a feeling then how should I feel?

We do need to distinguish between biological men and women for many reasons. Some medical, we know more men die from COVID and we know young girls have FGM tortured upon them. Some for women's safety as men as a sex are dangerous to women (and other men)

So how do you think we are best placed to do that?

merrymouse · 11/06/2020 00:01

Seasidetrains, I really would be interested to know why you think women wearing t-shirts and jeans that a man could wear without comment are victims of male violence; given that you think violence against women is prompted by feminine dress.

LangClegTheBeardedVulture · 11/06/2020 00:02
  1. In terms of demographics who buys products from The Body Shop?

It’s a crowded market and their products are expensive.

Do they think alienating the people who will both potentially want and can afford their products is a good idea?

Ninkanink · 11/06/2020 00:02

Oh good! I love Yorkshire tea. In fact we just bought a huge box of hundreds of tea bags. And I’ll make sure to keep buying them.

Willow2017 · 11/06/2020 00:05

Anita Roddick will be turning in her grave

After years of campaigning against animal testing she sold out to the single largest group of companies using animal testing on cosmetics!

Havent used BS since she stuck two fingers up to her customers back then so i dont believe she would give a toss about them now.

WatchoutfortheROUS · 11/06/2020 00:05

Another band wagon jumping idiot company to boycott then

user32742534 · 11/06/2020 00:08

Oh, I am a regular Body Shop customer so I am genuinely upset to read this. I won't be buying from them anymore.

TaraFee · 11/06/2020 00:09

The Body Shop tweet was ratioed at first but not any more. Sad

NotTheOnlyPomInTheVillage · 11/06/2020 00:10

Emma Watson has tweeted in support of trans rights.

I wonder if she’d feel the same if she found herself in a female changing room alongside trans woman Karen White?

The Body Shop has fallen
Billi77 · 11/06/2020 00:11

Don’t sweat it’s When we learn to admit that trans women are women we can start using their products again.
