Just seen this on Twitter.

For those who like their Ginger Shampoo, can I suggest MooGoo.

Also, Aveeno is a good replacement for their Shea butter.

Other thoughts welcome. Feel free to suggest other ideas.

i clicked on this headline expecting some very dramatic news about the body shop, and the new is... they don't blindly follow jk rowling in belitting trans people?! come on. the hysteria around trans people on mumsnet is so silly.

JemimaShore · 10/06/2020 21:25

I'll never shop in the Body Shop again.

In fact, I feel like scrawling "I Stand with JK Rowling" on their shop window in lipstick in the dead of night. But I probably won't Grin

I have emailed them. I'm not expecting much of a response - they'll probably say something like "We don't want your terf money anyway!!" Well, they won't be getting it now! And I think they're in a more precarious position than me.

I won't be buying L'Oriel shite either. Because I'm worth more than that Grin

YouokHun · 10/06/2020 21:26

Isn't Body Shop on its last legs anyway. Perhaps an employee knows they're about to go into administration and is trying it on

I believe it’s been in trouble for a while and it certainly feels as if it’s all over when you go in one of their shops (or peer in as I do because I have refused to shop there since I got involved with the antiMLM movement). Apparently the profitable bit is the MLM Sad which is probably the case because it’s cheap to run; you’ve got a load of faithful customers who think they’ve got their own business and you shunt all the costs of doing business onto them - what’s not to like for the “ethical, female friendly” Body Shop? They’ve just kicked off their MLM in the US, so that’s clearly where they want to go - MLM is a hugely exploitative business model and this alone shows them up for what they really are.

TheChampagneGalop · 10/06/2020 21:26

I'm SO disgusted and angry. Rowling's post was so touching, opening up about past abuse, and then this. Fucking bye bye BS. Go misogynist, go broke.

So taking the piss out of a woman who has just written about sexual abuse is who you are?
BubblyBarbara · 10/06/2020 21:29

Phew, I thought the Body Shop had gone into administration or something, not that they were standing up for human rights. I like their products.

JamieLeeCurtains · 10/06/2020 21:29

Bye bye Body Shop you absolutely spiteful horrors

Standrewsschool · 10/06/2020 21:29

Death of Bodyshop methinks. Bad business plan. Do they actually know who their main customer base is? Women!

Willow2017 · 10/06/2020 21:29

Gross bullying of J.K Rowling? Seriously?! How about gross bullying of trans people?! JKR should educate herself and so should some of you by the sounds of things.
Give one single example.
Its not her issuing death threats? Yes thats such a sign of a valid argument by rational people! Educate herself in what? That biology is a fact? Think she did that already.🤔

For all of you who say MN isn't transphobic, you all need to go take a good hard long look at yourselves.
Dont need to as its not, its pro women, there is a Huge difference which all the 'transphobic screamers' seem to have a problem with understanding. Also if you are throwing statements like that around you need to provide links.

Fandoozle1 · 10/06/2020 21:30

Someone on Twitter just described the Body Shop as "soap on a rope, hanging by a thresd".... and it really is.

Justanotherlurker · 10/06/2020 21:30

Let us not pretend there was any way of a prominent woman who dared to say anything remotely gender critical avoiding any of this, though. The response still would've been the same if she'd never said anything to anyone before now.

You are trying to use the same progressive IDPOL stack that has made JK being hoist by her own pertard through, the inevitable purity spiral/left eating itself is as old as time.

The minute people started using those books as comparison to real world politics should have been a warning, the fact she interjected herself into this twitter sphere style politics and retconned a lot of her books to appeal to the crowd and not just say they are kids books considering she has 'fuck you money' and ironically not really like locally is a bad play not only on her part but those who make political points via HP memes.

The fact that you seem to think it is because she is a successful woman and not step back is why this will not end, your part of the problem.

printingworksheets · 10/06/2020 21:31

The bag says 'it's bloody natural' which I took to mean that being trans is natural

I think that the "bloody" bit is to do with Rowling referred to "people who menstruate" on her tweet. Her comment was interpreted to mean that people who don't menstruate aren't women...which I don't think she meant, looking at her original tweet - and this is the crux of it - no one is entirely clear what she meant and unfortunately both extremes - trans activists and the transphobists on mumsnet - have jumped on the bandwagon to try to bash each other up a bit more.

Standrewsschool · 10/06/2020 21:31

A friend has just started selling Bodyshop. I was planning to buy something later this month for a birthday present. No more.

BringbackLang · 10/06/2020 21:31

The TRA's seem to be riled tonight. Hmmm

TooOldForSims · 10/06/2020 21:31

How exactly is mocking a woman who has just opened up about being a survivor of domestic abuse and sexual assault standing up for human rights?
PartiallyStars · 10/06/2020 21:34

I have used Body Shop tea tree face wash and Vitamin E face cream for the last 15 or so years. Can anyone recommend an alternative?

Melroses · 10/06/2020 21:35

Interestingly, the Body Shop is trending on twitter with 18K tweets yet #IStandWithJKRowling is still only 8.5K, Hmm

Lordfrontpaw · 10/06/2020 21:36

Bots socks and ninnies.

Seasidetrains · 10/06/2020 21:36

'So taking the piss out of a woman who has just written about sexual abuse is who you are?'

i'm not taking the piss out of jk rowling, i just think her view about 'sex being real' is very small minded and will validate discrimination against people who don't feel comfortable with the gender (not sure why rowling doesn't want to use that word) that they were born into.

not sure why people need to police identities so much. gender is more fluid than society has admitted up until this point. that's changing and i'm really glad about it.

it goes without saying that it's brave of jk rowling to speak out about the abuse she suffered. horrifying. but i don't see why it justifies her position on trans rights.

TooOldForSims · 10/06/2020 21:36

I love their body butters (especially their strawberry one) so any cruelty free and preferably vegan alternatives to that would be good.

teabaseddiet · 10/06/2020 21:36

I've emailed the body shop. I'm hopping mad

Lordfrontpaw · 10/06/2020 21:37

Sex isn’t real then - really? What makes you think that?

TooOldForSims · 10/06/2020 21:37

So you don't agree that sex is real?

Also what exactlt is her position on trans rights?

TooOldForSims · 10/06/2020 21:38

*exactly

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 10/06/2020 21:39

i just think her view about 'sex being real' is very small minded

Are you saying sex isn't real?

gender (not sure why rowling doesn't want to use that word)

Probably because she was talking about sex? So why would she use a word that isn't what she's talking about?

What a very odd comment.
