JKR has picked up 8,000 Twitter followers this week. Just saying.

OldCrone · 11/06/2020 12:26

its easier and lazier to just believe people you like who make 280 character tweets than get off your arse and make the effort to look behide that.

Like these people?

How can people like Emma Watson say 'be kind' and side with people like this. No. I won't 'be kind' to a man who wants to choke a woman with his 'ladydick'.

These are the 'arguments' against JK Rowling. These are the people Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe, Eddie Redmayne and others are supporting. Have any of them condemned the appalling abuse that's been directed at her?

NotBadConsidering · 11/06/2020 12:29

I read that medium collage of posts earlier via a thread on Twitter, it’s truly vile, and they get worse as you scroll down. Be warned. If JKR is lurking, please don’t click on it Flowers.

RoyalCorgi · 11/06/2020 12:33

Did anyone else notice that the person who wrote the Guardian story on this also signed the vile anti-Suzanne Moore letter?

PelicanDeuce · 11/06/2020 13:19

Thank you, thank you, thank you JKR. It’s not easy for any of us to speak out and speak up. I did so as a poor, single mum living in a council house. I was reported to the police. Even as I went through cancer, I was investigated for a hate crime because I’d publicly defended single sex services and spaces.

I don’t know if you’re reading this thread, Jo. But you have a swell of support and women will carry you.

RedToothBrush · 11/06/2020 13:22

Piece on BBC news at one now.

So far so good...

"I'm afraid that twitter is not the place to discuss the subject" is the BBC editorial line from the journalist who was covering and explain what was happening.

And ain't that the truth.

And echoes exactly what Rowling herself said.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 11/06/2020 13:23

Are “Horrific atrocities “ committed against the “trans community” ? Because I have seen no evidence of this at all

Certainly not in the UK. Unless, of course, you mean women saying no. Which is LITERAL VIOLENCE AND KILLING PEOPLE!!!!!!!!

never mind the actual horrific atrocities the 3 women and children murdered by their partners/fathers ever week in the UK during lockdown suffered. Not forgetting those women still trapped with their abusers with all their "cis" privilege.
Where are the protests? Riots? Female lives matter? Calls for justice?

Can you imagine the fucking outcry if 30 men had been murdered by their wives/partners in 10 weeks.

SunsetBeetch · 11/06/2020 13:24

Jeremy is useless on this issue.

Got to remember that the extremely privileged Emma Watson also attended an American university: they are even worse than ours for toeing the woke line and silencing dissent.

SunsetBeetch · 11/06/2020 13:26

Jeremy Vine that is. He's shown time and time again he doesn't really understand the issues, and wants everyone to be kind.

Bowednotbroken · 11/06/2020 13:27

I too like an earlier PP am too old and ugly to care about responses so I've been sharing GC stuff from WPUK etc on FB for some time now. Usually get one or maybe 2 likes. Shared JK's blog post and got 9 with another person writing a positive comment and another sharing it on. Work in a woke field so this is progress - minuscule though it may be. Also emailed JK's staff to pass on thanks etc. Retweeted on Twitter too. Wish there was more I could do...

soconfused2020 · 11/06/2020 13:47

I am so utterly confused by all this. I read jk's tweets and the essay and it all seems reasonable- how is stating sex is real a bad thing? Seeing the vitriolic responses to her does not compute with what I read, this makes me question my sanity, am I transphobic? I have done a lot of reading of these boards and other sources recently so maybe I am just too new to all this. I am all for inclusivity but believe that women and girls should be protected too. JK even said that we share a kinship with transpeople, that we are both subjected male violence. I am an intelligent woman normally but this has me tied up in knots. Part of me thinks that I'm giving too much headspace to an issue that doesn't affect me but I know that is wrong but I'm not sure what to do next.

Dances · 11/06/2020 13:51

So confused
I'm afraid you are going to be disgusted, frightened and angry like the rest of us. Becausit is disgusting and frightening and anger is one of the many responses

Alyssum34456 · 11/06/2020 13:56

@soconfused2020 I feel the same. Sad thing is I no longer know how to talk about it.

FantaOra · 11/06/2020 13:57

That Sussex radio show is worth a listen. There's a male headmaster on there saying yeah we've canceled JKR as she's not a good role model for children, when our values are inclusive.

What a nasty little man.

TheSingingKettle49 · 11/06/2020 14:16

It seems to me that many people who grew up during the Gay Rights movement and saw how things went from section 28 to gay marriage being legalised are equating Gay Rights with Trans Rights and are so desperately afraid of being on the wrong side of history that they don’t even consider women to be a vulnerable group or how Trans Rights will affect Women’s Rights. Or perhaps they just don’t care?

Michelleoftheresistance · 11/06/2020 14:23

we've canceled JKR as she's not a good role model for children, when our values are inclusive.

This is sickening. A very much loved children's series permanently warped or destroyed because saying female people matter too and need to be able to name their sex is so utterly abhorrent and evil. What message are female children taking from all this? The values they'd better not dare breach don't include them.

BatShite · 11/06/2020 14:23

My DAD just replied on my status on FB with this. My dad is the last one to be reading anything even slightly like this, so..this is definitely reaching more than the usual. M

Datun · 11/06/2020 14:24

People retweeting or supporting J. K. Rowling - Murial Grey, David Baddiel, Jennifer Saunders, Alison Moyet...

Dances · 11/06/2020 14:27

Jennifer Saunders? Excellent!

NeurotrashWarrior · 11/06/2020 14:28

Whoop!

@Datun

How do you phrase that question; why are tw w without saying anything sexist..?

I can't get it right in my head.

ValancyRedfern · 11/06/2020 14:29

India Knight has suggested she supports JKR in a cautious way.

Dances · 11/06/2020 14:29

Beardo doing a good summary for us

Whositgonnabe · 11/06/2020 14:31

@Soconfused2020 I feel exactly the same. I just don't understand why what she said would be deemed as transphobic.

I related to her essay in more ways than one... I wept at certain parts... and I scoured the paragraphs for anything that could be taken as an offence to any group of people, and I genuinely couldn't see any.

I can't understand the backlash.

The only way I can make any sense of it is that the trans activists are simply defensive because they know on a deep level that she's right. I'm afraid to say but the aggression of some comments coming from trans activists just remind me of the (general / stereotypical) aggression of men. Is that transphobic of me? Is that a sexist comment? I honestly don't know anymore!

But I am glad the conversation is happening nonetheless. I don't know a lot about it but I do believe women's rights need to be protected from men... All types of men...even if they identify as women. At the same time, genuine transwomen also need to be protected from men. There's a running theme here...

NeurotrashWarrior · 11/06/2020 14:34

India is full on terf because India fully believes India is full woman.

I think... would India use male toilets?

NeurotrashWarrior · 11/06/2020 14:36

Oops sorry, entirely different India....
