Do you think JK knew what would happen?

She's hinted her views before, but this is the most clearly outspoken she has been. The backlash has been pretty awful tbh. I'm not sure I 100% agree with everything she is saying, but I do not like how she has been treated. Why the world is acting like she has made some 'Trump-like' statement I dont know. Perhaps because being trans is the most recent trending vulnerable group to gain support and influence? So it's a very risky thing to talk about? The fact it can't even be discussed is pretty sad.

I wonder if she realised this would happen. Do you think she had higher hopes that some other admirable high profile names would come to her aid, or at least have a healthy debate? Does she know people who have let her down? Perhaps they realised last minute that it was just too risky a move here's looking at you Dan Radcliffe. I can almost see him sending her a private message "Sorry Jo, really can't do this right now! I'm too young and I need the money from my next woke gig!" Or has he really truly lost touch with her and decided to break ties? Or did she really just decide throw it out there and hope for the best?

A part of me thinks she knew it all along. She is very good at standing out from the crowd. She had had incredible lows in her life. Even if she spends the foreseeable future in a downward disgrace, she has publicly planted a seed and now the initial heat is over people are starting to talk. The BBC even has an article on the Dan Rad response and links to articles about gender critical and what this means for women. I think they are being surprisingly unbiased actually.

The future starts here?

I just hope this doesn't scar her too much.

@Sickoffamilydrama

Well I've just be told that I'm erasing trans women's identities and that trans women are women.

I have gently asked how they are women and explained that if we identify men as women then how do we set up health care.

‘Erasing identities’ - so the friend goes around with their eyes closed then?

Mainstream tv, drag trade shows, advertising, marketing, women’s products... the only ID that isn’t particularly represented is trans men. What does the friend think of that?

Sickoffamilydrama · 11/06/2020 08:59

Lordfrontpaw
They haven't re-engaged but I also have backing of a far few so I'm not alone which is the frightening part.
If they return I will make that point that about trans men I notice the default is always TW.

Lottapianos · 11/06/2020 08:59

Just had a GC friend message me to say that JK's tweets have peak transed her husband. All great news, but why the actual fuck has it taken him so long to get his head around the issues?!

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 11/06/2020 09:07

I'm so grateful not to have had to have a fight about this within my own home. I honestly think if my husband had spouted TWAW platitudes at me post Karen White and Jessica Yaniv I'd have had to divorce him.

teawamutu · 11/06/2020 09:17

DH gets it, after years of listening to me rant. But still says yes, but irl it (TW on women's wards, sport) won't happen.

IT IS HAPPENING ALREADY, I say. I have sent links. He's shocked. He reads the Guardian.

ThinEndoftheWedge · 11/06/2020 09:26

IT IS HAPPENING ALREADY, I say.

That’s part of the problem.

Rational people who really aren’t aware of the issue can’t believe that people would be stupid enough to place men - especially sex offenders- in women’s prisons or allow men to compete against women in sport - especially contact sport where safety is an issue etc.

It takes a while to realise people in positions of policy and responsibility REALLY are that STUPID.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 11/06/2020 10:02

This is interesting in terms of how to read it.

(I swear that wasn't meant to be a pun.)

How do you mean?

I think it’s positive

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 11/06/2020 11:01

I think it's probably a sign of passive support, ie they both think she's right but don't want to face the potential shitstorm from saying so. Dunno if either have said anything on SM though.

RuffleCrow · 11/06/2020 11:02

I don't really know that DT and DB reading HP is significant. It was probably arranged ages ago. DT certainly knows what a woman is when it came to shagging the female cast of Doctor Who, apparently. DB just won't have a clue full stop beyond being married to a woman and having a daughter...

ChaToilLeam · 11/06/2020 11:05

I am quite certain JKR knew what she was getting into, and went ahead anyway. She has the courage of a lioness.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 11/06/2020 11:06

I also think The Metro are trolling by pointing out and hoping to turn it into a fight, like the DM were by posting a story about Crissy Teigan (who I would assume is probably team TWAW) watching the Harry Potter film with her daughter.

corpsebrid3 · 11/06/2020 14:30

I'm in 2 minds whether she'd be aware of what could happen.

I'd hope she has good PR who will somewhat shield her from the abuse and she would have made them aware that she was planning to disclose more of her beliefs. I also think she knows how poisonous and abusive the TRAs are on Twitter. Not that any of that could prepare her for the level of attention she has received and how the press has reported on her essay.

On the surface it seems to have been an accidental leak that has led to a full and comprehensive disclosure of her beliefs.

I do wonder if the end goal was to shed sunlight on the matter and use the essay to do so. It has been reprinted in full in most media outlets and is very hard to argue against. Especially for readers with experience of the real world and have children. Young actors have their own agendas and they are certainly not paid for their brain power. I'm not too concerned what they have to say about anything, let alone an issue that affects me and my daughter.

Lordfrontpaw · 11/06/2020 14:37

The Metro and Standard are very much on that side. Very blatant in its reporting, photography etc. I only use it when I need something to sry my wellies on.

xxyzz · 11/06/2020 21:12

Sorry, not read the thread.

The Daily Mail have been printing her entire article/post in full on its website as part of multiple articles about her and her 'cancellation'.

She surely did this to bring sunlight.

Still very brave.

But this is a woman who wrote what is basically an allegory of the defeat of fascism, we shouldn't be surprised she practices what she preaches.

@justanotherneighinparadise

It would be VERY interesting as an aside to know what Emma Watson really thinks as she’s an outspoken feminist and advocate for women’s charities across the world. I bet she is completely transfixed and hoping to god noone asks her her opinion.
Emma Watson ain't no feminist...
Lordfrontpaw · 11/06/2020 21:49

What’s she done for women recently?

Antibles · 11/06/2020 22:35

I'm sure JK Rowling knew what she was doing. She's very brave. I'm so grateful to her for speaking up for women and for the truth.

RuffleCrow · 11/06/2020 23:27

I think Emma Watson's thing is to appear 'accessible' to male people - whether they want to be her or shag her. She seems to be cultivating the illusion that if they only wish hard enough, they too can be young, beautiful, famous and female. Or shag someone who is. (What was that weird 'Mr Muscle' TWAW tshirt pose all about?!) Or both. It's calculating and almost as creepy as her followers, and i'm surprised her 'target audience' don't see straight through it tbh. She's clearly not stupid, and everyone knows that no-one actually believes that slogan Hmm

7Days · 11/06/2020 23:28

She for He, eh Emma?

ReceptacleForTheRespectable · 12/06/2020 08:53

She definitely knew. She's intelligent enough. Good for her that she was brave enough to step up anyway!

corpsebrid3 · 13/06/2020 08:48

I'm angry for JK this morning with Noma Dumezweni and Rupert Grint hauling themselves on the bandwagon. She must feel betrayed by these people who are unnecessarily fuelling the fire.

I want JK to know I feel very alone in this bad world when I read these people expressing views that takes into no account the complex issues surrounding this issue.

I know I can't be alone but it's a lonely time for us.

Lordfrontpaw · 13/06/2020 08:51

The little sh*ts really are crawling pit of the woodwork. I hope they have family and friends who tell them to their faces what they are applauding.

I also - and this is nasty - hope that the Hollybubble changes direction and they end up on the ‘wrong side’ and get a taste of their own medicine.
