The charity which buys menstruation products to refugee WOMEN has written an open letter to JKR telling her to read some munroe Bergdorf. And no I'm not joking. It's an absolutely dreadful embarrassing letter, with arguments you'd expect in a gcse essay.

Signed by a load of misogynists like jolyon Maughan and some some that should know better like Jack monroe and that stupid guilty feminist woman.

For shame.

Hopefully, JKR read that letter and just eye rolled. I can't imagine that she'll give it much head space.

CheerfuIPotato · 08/06/2020 00:10

I couldn’t see Jameela Jamils name on there.
She’ll be FURIOUS 😂

VortexofBloggery · 08/06/2020 00:14

Yes OldCrone that bit was most illuminating
"Menstruation does not maketh a woman, and to imply so, not only erases the experience of trans women,"
It's a charity for menstruating women. Who cares about the experience of those men and women who are not menstruating? It's totally irrelevant. I'm not menstruating anymore (thank god! Which is another thing, the cheek to claim "exclusion" from women's suffering) so this charity/issue is irrelevant to my day to day life as a woman. As it should be to transwomen. Holy hell.

Somethingkindaoooo · 08/06/2020 00:16

@Heartlake

I got as far as 'cis white women' :-/
Me too!
NotBadConsidering · 08/06/2020 00:28

Jeez, the typos.

“Independant”
“twelth”

I suspect a high school student wrote it. It sounds so juvenile in its tone.

CherrySpritz · 08/06/2020 00:32

@Heartlake

I got as far as 'cis white women' :-/
Me too. They lost me at the word ‘cis’.
BlazeAway · 08/06/2020 00:46

The CEO actually went to a very academic single-sex school. Same one as Stephen Whittle oddly enough, although not at the same time.

I think all-girls schools are fantastic for telling you you're just as good as men and can do whatever subjects you want, but it does mean that you're a bit protected from actual real-life sexism.

WaxOnFeckOff · 08/06/2020 00:52

What a pile of pish and making it about race is just fucking offensive.

I read the list of signatories so I could boycott them, turns out I've never heard of any of the stuck up bunch of nobodies so I'm proud of the great job I'm doing. I'm a woman who no longer menstruates but count myself in JKs definition. I'm still a woman.

sourdoughismyreligion · 08/06/2020 00:57

Hilarious. They're trying to be painfully woke and correct but in that letter they have themselves been offensive and exclusionary according to the latest in gender orthodoxy. By referring to 'people who menstruate' as the female reproductive population, they are implying that transwomen are not female. Being female is now entirely a matter of self-identification. Transwomen are female if they say they are female, and to suggest that the term 'female' only be used to describe people with a certain set of reproductive organs is offensive and exclusionary.

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 08/06/2020 00:59

As a woman no longer of menstruating age, I just binned my subscription to The Guilty Feminist.

Of all the condescending bullshit: that letter must be attracting blowflies, it’s so on the nose.

AnyOldPrion · 08/06/2020 01:07

We write this ... to invite you in to an open-minded, justice-focused feminist space. We write this with the simple intention of promoting accountability and for the growth of you as an individual

How patronising can you get? Really it’s hilarioisly bad. And Jolyon thingy put his name to it?

Lol!

How stupid do you have to be not to understand that 'All people who menstruate are women' doesn't mean the same as 'All women menstruate'?
I am currently trying to get this through to someone on twitter but everybody else has piled on now. It feels like wading through the shallow end of the gene pool- I'm being told to educate and/or kill myself by what appears to be an army of anime schoolgirls.

Carouselfish · 08/06/2020 01:21

What really depresses me about the whole trans ideology is the way a lot of people I'd normally agree with about other things are suckers for it, thinking it's the right and kind thing to do. They don't look deeply into it. They just think it's being mean (at worst transphobic) to not go along with self-ID for example, or using made up terms for things which didn't need new terms because they haven't changed. They haven't considered any of the pitfalls. Whether it's because they are just naive or wilfully ignorant, I don't know. But, I'm not used to not being on the same side as people who take the left-wing stance. It's disturbing to me, I feel like the goal posts have shifted past the point of sense!

2BthatUnnoticed · 08/06/2020 04:05

That letter is racist. How dare they use BLM to try advance this (very much white-dominated) agenda.

Gross and exploitative - even for them.

JK I understand you lurk here. Please, pay these arrogant fools no mind.

NotBadConsidering · 08/06/2020 06:01

only serve to detract from the press attention on important events concerning Black Lives Matter.

How is it detracting? The only people not paying attention to BLM protests are those angry people on Twitter.

BBC? Headline is BLM protest and nil about JK Rowling.
The Guardian? Ditto.
The Times? BLM on main page. Nil about JKR.
And so on, and so on. Even the websites that are running a story as found by Google News don’t have it at the top, but way down.

The only people who are distracted from BLM are those who are distracting themselves by ranting away at JK Rowling. The press aren’t. You’re responsible yourselves for what you pay attention to, JK Rowling isn’t forcing you to write a typo-ridden letter instead of focusing on other things, and the media knows where its priorities lie, you bunch of absolute fucking muppets.

Datun · 08/06/2020 06:04

Menstruation does not maketh a woman, and to imply so, not only erases the experience of trans women

What experience? Not menstruating? That experience?

Honestly. They sound absolutely barking.

Xanthangum · 08/06/2020 06:58

Signed by Dr Ronx, "bigger-upper-of-our-youth".

I didn't know my eyes could roll that hard.

MittensTheSerpent · 08/06/2020 07:44

Their "open-minded justice-focused space" sounds like the self-criticism "struggle sessions" during Chairman Mao's Cultural Revolution.

I've not clicked on the link but I'm guessing she was the person who wrote an article in third sector magazine about changing the images of beneficiaries of charities to be less victim-focused (good point) as quickly as page 3 was removed from The Sun. That would be a few decades then. No sense of what women who went before her have done.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 08/06/2020 08:35

So they've put up a letter that's signed by a load of fellas in order to chastise a woman for speaking about the biological reality and experience of women and girls? Nah, they can shut up.

ThinEndoftheWedge · 08/06/2020 08:37

I got as far as 'cis white women

Indeed.

It gets worse

Could the authors survey women and ask them what we prefer to be called:

‘female reproductive population’
OR
Women of child bearing age

Which do you think would win?

Words matter. That’s why it’s so important to the to untether the word women from us. We know it. We can’t give up

merrymouse · 08/06/2020 08:42

I wish they would just engage their brains.

"A significant part of the female reproductive population use hormonal medications/ devices that prevent menstruation and are therefore not people who menstruate"

And the fact that they require hormonal medication to prevent menstruation means that they are at a disadvantage compared to men. Many women lack access to any kind of medical care.

"A small part of the female reproductive population is pregnant or breastfeeding and so, are not menstruating"

Which also impacts on their rights.

"A small part of the female reproductive population cannot menstruate"
"A small part of the female reproductive population has experienced early menopause and so, are not menstruating"

And in both of these instances it is likely that the reason for not menstruating will have a long term health impact and they will require medical care.

The handy word that defines the group of people affected by menstruation is 'women'. If an adult woman doesn't menstruate, there will be a medical cause, whether that his menopause, hysterectomy or something else. Men just don't menstruate.

"A small part of this population do not identify as ‘women’ or ‘girls’"

I would imagine that a very large part of the population don't 'identify' with any gender stereotype, yet the consequences of sex cannot be avoided. Wouldn't it be better if we just agreed that 'woman' is a neutral word that does not dictate your identity?

"Black Trans people are disproportionately victims of violence, simply for existing. They are made to feel invalidated and mocked for menstruating. Nobody should be made to feel shame for their body."

There is nothing shameful about being a woman, and JK Rowling has not mocked anyone. 'Validity' is no more linked to your sex than it is linked to your blood type.

However, as with 'woman', if 'trans' no longer has any objective meaning, it is impossible to carry out any statistical analysis on whether either group is more likely to be a victim of violence. Without recognition of sex, the concept of 'trans' does not exist.

"We implore you to spend some time researching"

Likewise.

Lordfrontpaw · 08/06/2020 08:44

Feh vote with your wallet. Women don’t bit their products - will ‘non-menstruaters’ and ‘non-c** females’ pick up the slack?

I lover from Always on the back of their nonsense and use far far better products now.
