The charity which buys menstruation products to refugee WOMEN has written an open letter to JKR telling her to read some munroe Bergdorf. And no I'm not joking. It's an absolutely dreadful embarrassing letter, with arguments you'd expect in a gcse essay.

Signed by a load of misogynists like jolyon Maughan and some some that should know better like Jack monroe and that stupid guilty feminist woman.

For shame.

To be honest @Lordfrontpaw I stopped using Always when they decided to add perfume to their products which gave me thrush and made me smell like an old tub of pot pourri. However I would also have given up on them because of their inability to define women. So sometimes I find it useful when companies/people put their names to bollocks like this letter as it shows who to avoid.

As I write this I'm enjoying my Arla yoghurt -they had no patience with the trans bullys so got my business

WendyHoused · 08/06/2020 09:02

Lord what do you use instead?

Lordfrontpaw · 08/06/2020 09:09

I use Hey Girls (I know, the name!) and Natracare.

nobodysdaughter · 08/06/2020 09:12

Freddy "the seahorse" McConnell!

ThePlantsitter · 08/06/2020 09:13

The fact they keep saying 'female reproductive population' blows their argument out of the water - because they need a way to categorise those people. Which is what JKR was talking about.

PrincessButtockUp · 08/06/2020 09:15

Surely someone somewhere with better artistic skills than me, can produce a Venn diagram in which a large circle is "women" and a small circle contained within it is "who menstruate". But of course there would be much disagreement on the placement of the hundreds of other circles of gender identities, even though menstruation is biological reality and I can't identify out of it.

List of fucking nobodies and people who don't have proper jobs, innit? Not a key worker among them. My personal favourite is "Luisa le Voguer Couyet - editor, hate zine", with "Sara Veal - Digital Witch" a close second. Is it possible that the whole thing's a parody?

Oh it’s a charity... some some ‘people’ wanting to ‘oooo change the world!’.

“Bloody Good Period strikes at the intersection of feminism, migration, race, and injustice.” (Quote on their site (didn’t see the word woman or girl mentioned - just ‘anyone’ and ‘people’)

Dingbats.

Hey girls does a ‘buy one give one’ thing - for girls and women.

Ifonlyus · 08/06/2020 09:37

What on earth do munro and Juno have to add to a discussion about menstruation?!

Ugh, the tone of that letter. As if they think J K Rowling is done ignorant dim wit incapable of doing her own research and reaching her own conclusions - one, which is shared by many academics and educated women. Its embarrassing to see them act as though JKR just hasnt thought about the issue properly yet.

Lordfrontpaw · 08/06/2020 09:39

Lorks - looks like they preach to centres about ‘people’. I’m sure that charities don’t give a shot a kit their nonsense and just want the products but I can imagine their nonsense. Can you imagine having to work with these people just to get much needed supplies for traumatised women and girls?
“Yes yes, people, not all menstruators are wxmyn (is that the right word?), we don’t use the w or g word to our people here - JUST GIMME THE PADS!’

“We are partnered with over 40 drop-ins for asylum seekers and refugees around the country, getting period products to over 1500 people every month. We build up relationships with drop-ins where we can commit to delivering a sustainable flow of period products - periods happen every bloody month, so the products need to be there every single month!“

Stupid letter. Do they really not understand that going round accusing people of wrong think and in need of "education" is never going to convince anybody that you might have a point.

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 08/06/2020 09:48

‘female reproductive population’

I really feel like they're trying to other us boring mothers - it's all very handmaids tale to me, and that language sets off my "they're up to something" radar.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/06/2020 09:51

Their "open-minded justice-focused space" sounds like the self-criticism "struggle sessions" during Chairman Mao's Cultural Revolution.

Doesn't it just? Or a gulag, in the style of Goldsmiths.

Ifonlyus · 08/06/2020 09:51

Yes, it's creepy when you think of it like that. I don't want my daughters to think of themselves as the 'female reproductive population'

Z0rr0 · 08/06/2020 09:58

Jeezus. Repeating so much of the unverifiable bullshit aimed at guilting us into submission, and the fecking arrogance of 'for the growth of you as an individual to do better' and telling her she's not a feminist. UGH.

RoyalCorgi · 08/06/2020 10:17

Let's face it, JKR has more intelligence and humanity in her little finger than these people do in their entire bodies.

"Menstruation does not maketh a woman..." What's with the cod-Shakespearean language? What's the point?

SarahTancredi · 08/06/2020 10:17

Oh god...

Well good luck selling your stuff to this tiny population of people.

I use reusables and just purchased a menstrual cup so dont ever intend on parting with cash to people who have no idea what a woman is.

BaronessFloralBunting · 08/06/2020 10:24

Hold on, we can be called 'the female reproduction population' but we can't be called women? Who the fuck is reducing us now?

BringbackLang · 08/06/2020 10:26

So pray tell how Dawson, Bergdoff and Jolyon advise lecture the Terven (sic) about people who menstruate? Or am I missing something?

WaxOnFeckOff · 08/06/2020 10:27

It might be easier to define men. Men are people with penises. That therefore allows committed trans people to be women and if some female to male transpeople without penises want to call themselves men, then I personally don't have a problem with that...

NewAccountForCorona · 08/06/2020 10:50

One of those signatories is Tina Leslie - Founder, Freedom4girls UK.

I've looked at Freedom4girls and it's name indicates it knows what a girl is, and their "what do we do" begins with "Period poverty is a worldwide issue and affects millions of women and girls ..."

However, someone has got to it as the first line on the home page begins "We work to support those who menstruate ..."

I presume they will now go through it and woke-edit the rest [sigh]. Pity, as these charities do valuable work.

I also noticed bryony farmer on there.

Her you tube advice/ reviews re pads and cups has been very helpful. I thought she was brilliant. So rare for a girl so young ( when she started the videos) to do something about something that many young girls find embarrassing. Its really sad to see her do this. Was also disappointed when I saw one of her videos come up demonstrating how to simulate a period Hmm

Sittinonthefloor · 08/06/2020 11:03

What struck me was their odd use of capital letters. Lots of words, often adjectives, given a capital letter that don’t need one - a sort of lettery virtue signal or capitalisation confirmation of importance. But then in the other half of the sentence the corresponding adjective they’ve used to describe the thing they don’t agree with not given an upper case. Weird and rather sinister.
