@Crikey0000

Ha, I no longer menstruate. What does that make me?
Don't worry there are YouTube videos which tell you how to make realistic looking menstrual blood which you can use on a pad or fill a mooncup with.
SailingAwayIntoSunrise · 07/06/2020 00:57

Another one saying thank you JK!

Thisismytimetoshine · 07/06/2020 00:58

But Confused. Surely they're not deluded enough to think it's real? And if they know it's not real, why??

CheerfuIPotato · 07/06/2020 00:59

I’m probably going to end up being banned from Twitter again 😏

BaronessFloralBunting · 07/06/2020 01:08

I must go to bed. But golly, the pretzel logic is a sight to behold. Lots of Genderist people saying that sex is very real, but Gender is an illusion in response to Malcolm Clark saying Genderists are trying to put Gender ID as more significant than sex and say binary sex is an illusion.

And then repeating that the 'Gender' in the brain is misaligned with the sex in the body, which is a spectrum anyway. And round and round they go, and whenever anyone points out any of the holes, they just start typing ALL CAPS slurs and posting creepy Kpop gifs of teen girls in short skirts and knee thighs gyrating.

If I may adopt their style... THIS IS NOT THE WIN YOU APPEAR TO THINK IT IS, TWEETERS.

NoSquirrels · 07/06/2020 01:08

feeling kinship because they’re vulnerable in the same way as women

It’s amazingly expressed. You want “allyship”, Twitter? That’s “being an ally” - I cannot claim to be the same as you but I stand with you.

I’m not sure she’s picked her moment - she’ll get a lot of shit about being insensitive “right now” and “why not be kind?” - I see it already in my Twitter feed.

JK, many of us on here are in precarious employment and that means we don't feel able to publicly support you or the many other strong feminists who speak out. But please know that we are grateful that you speak the truth.

fantasisa just saying yes - I actually responded on Twitter to the second tweet and then deleted ...my notifications went wild and actually, I am probably risking my job or at least professional goodwill and influence by being even blandly supportive. I’ve left the ‘likes’ in JKR’s original tweets but deleted my own responses.

I know I’m being a coward, I feel quite shit about it. But I’m pretty sure Jo will understand. I’ll write a personal note instead via her agent. Twitter is no place for nuance- I’m actually quite sad about the reactions in my timeline from people I like who don’t seem to grasp she’s said nothing disrespectful to trans people at all.

crumpet · 07/06/2020 01:09

By the way anyone without a twitter account can still read what she has said, if you just google her and twitter

ofwarren · 07/06/2020 01:26

What is it with the K Pop GIFs? Are they supposed to mean anything? I just block the people who post them.

GrimDamnFanjo · 07/06/2020 01:26

Fuck me JK is on fire!
I am so pleased she is speaking up.

Datun · 07/06/2020 01:31

She is genuinely brave. I'm sure she's always has nutters sending her weird or abusive communications. It goes with the job.

But this is a white hot issue, topical and highly politicised. It's covers a multitude of aspects and it's very divisive.

And it's not going away.

I'm so impressed that she's been genning up on it for three years. That's committed research for you - no wonder her books have so much depth.

And the best thing is she has timed it impeccably.

The tide is turning, with J K bloody Rowling riding on the crest of a massive wave.

Truly brave and stunning.

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 07/06/2020 01:42

When a woman speaking a simple truth about biology gets so much hate from frothing misogynists, we really are in trouble. Bravo JKR for standing up for truth, women and material reality.

I wonder, do the pale children of identity politics ever wonder if abusing and threatening one of the richest and best known woman in the world might not end well for them? Perhaps not.

Their outrage is in direct proportion to their lack of critical thinking. But then, I’ve always thought that the trans rights movement offered men a platform for expressing their hatred of women while winning woke points for social inclusion. Win win for misogynists, with no downside because none of their rights or spaces were threatened.

JigglypuffsCaptor · 07/06/2020 01:49

I had to click off when I read the words;

"there are loads of reasons a non-trans-woman might not menstruate"

NON-TRANS-WOMAN....WHAT IS THIS FUCKWITTERY

That was enough Twitter for me today. 🤦🏻‍♀️

BoreOfWhabylon · 07/06/2020 01:51

@SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito

The only way this could get better would be if Harrop wades in and says something sueable stupid. Grin
Oh yes! Please let it happen. She will eviscerate him Grin
vixxo · 07/06/2020 01:54

Big fan of her, and thank god for her voice.

Datun · 07/06/2020 01:54

Well said DancelikeEmmaGoldman

But then, I’ve always thought that the trans rights movement offered men a platform for expressing their hatred of women

And she is really exposing the misogyny. Like baroness Nicholson, civil, factual, rational tweets are being met with insane fury.

Realising that women with some actual power aren't having it, is generating some spectacular and impotent rage.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 07/06/2020 01:57

I was going to bed at midnight, why did I just check MN. Shit has hit the fan.

JK is awesome.

Isn't it absurd we are having to fight for our sex based rights and gay rights all over again.
There needs to be a separation of the words sex and gender.
No more gender pay gap or gender equality. Sex sex sex sex sex.

Also ridiculous that there is absolutely no coherent definition of trans amongst the TRAs. Some say it's dysphoria, some say no need for dysphoria. Transexuals who have had the full op being accused of faking being trans by the straight males who loves their tackle.

NoSquirrels · 07/06/2020 01:57

The tide is turning, with J K bloody Rowling riding on the crest of a massive wave.

I hope you’re right, Datun. But I fear you’re not. In my pretty woke lefty echo chamber I see absolute condemnation and a sense this is it, no going back, she’s burned bridges and repercussions will be wide...

Mollyollydolly · 07/06/2020 02:07

I hope she knows how much it's appreciated. However rich you are it takes guts to get that level of hate. I bloody love that woman.

AMCoffeePMWine · 07/06/2020 02:09

Meena Harris (Kamala Harris’ niece) jumped on JK with the Karen comment. And she’s asking why is JK doing this today instead of BLM (although at this time Meena is up selling her new kids book). And then Meena is saying Black Trans Lives matter, as if black trans don’t fall within the BLM movement.

I don’t think the US have had quite the same situations occur there as the UK and other countries have. The Harris family have a big following, and are getting lots of likes and retweets.

I’ve made a few comments on these tweets, but there are a lot more supporting Meenas comments. JK is made of steel though, through this. I just admire the heck out of her.

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 07/06/2020 02:17

Bloody brilliant Grin

Screaming TERF at an untouchable woman is like screaming in to the void. It can’t harm her and will, I imagine, strengthen her resolve to speak the truth. Now please excuse me I appear to have something in my eye...

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 07/06/2020 02:20

I bloody love this woman. Tons and tons. Despite keeping me up reading all this when I should be asleep!

TehBewilderness · 07/06/2020 02:27

The Democratic Senators are all very woke (oblivious) with regard to trans rights. Oddly enough they aren't particularly concerned about any women's rights except a bit of lip service to abortion rights.

Datun · 07/06/2020 02:39

I hope you’re right, Datun. But I fear you’re not. In my pretty woke lefty echo chamber I see absolute condemnation and a sense this is it, no going back, she’s burned bridges and repercussions will be wide...

There has always been two strands to this. Cultural and legal.

Transactivists wanted to make self id legal. And very nearly did. Feminists eventually forced the public consultation. And now Liz Truss has committed publicly to women only spaces.

And culturally the general public is fed up to the back teeth with identity politics. Just see every comment, under every article, in every paper.

This melt down now has been predicted. It was inevitable once the wheels became loose. And it's entirely necessary. Because the batshit, violent, threatening comments from TRAs need the sunlight JKR is giving them.

She has intimated that she knows exactly what she's getting into. With talk of 'thought crime' and having read about the issue for 3 years. Plus she is a colleague of baroness Nicholson.

I don't think it will be pretty. But I have every reason to think that burning bridges and repercussions is something she not only expects but is grimly determined to embrace.

And the reason is because she is right. Humans cant change sex. A woman is an adult human female. And women's rights are based on their sex.

VirginWestCoast · 07/06/2020 03:10

I love this woman.
I really do worry about the effect that this has got to have on a person. She's been putting up with this kind of backlash for years now but it is just massive tonight.
I really want to think that she just doesn't give a fuck about the slurs she's been subjected to. However, while I could probably wear "Terf" as a badge of pride, there are only so many messages of people telling me to "fuck off and die" that I could read without it having quite a significant impact on me.
