This image popped up in my news feed ... it has layers of meaning depending on where you stand, but clearly, you can’t identify your way out of oppression.

Just when you think you couldn’t love JK Rowling more...

Here we are looking at a pandemic and climate change wondering if humans are dimorphic

Massive misqoute from DancelikeEmmaGoldman but the jist of it.

Nail on head
How disheartening

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 08/06/2020 01:46

7Days, I’ve never written in 25 words what couldn’t be said in 5. Grin Paraphrase away!

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 08/06/2020 01:50

I know, Apileofballyhoo, it's just crackers.

I'm not good at Twitter but I've just had a quick scroll through some of the more prominent irish tweeps. I'm sad about a lot of their reactions (Sinead Gleeson Sad) but Roisin Ingle seems to be silent on the issue. I've had quiet hopes for her since the 8th, so maybe, just maybe...

7Days · 08/06/2020 02:01

No you said a lot more interesting stuff DancelikeEmmaGoldman I just plucked out the bits that hit me hard.
You're fucking right. Sadly.

7Days · 08/06/2020 02:07

My peep above the parapet is going ok. The main antagonist sloped off due to drunkenness. Had a good chat deep in the comments with a scattering of likes
If that means anything

Shouldn't have done it tbh, under my real name, easily linked to my work account. Balls. Redundancies coming. But I was polite and mildly quizzical throughout.

Be fine.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 08/06/2020 02:10

Well done, 7days. I've been liking on Twitter in my own name. I'm not on fb so I'm missing all the discussion/arguing there. Probably better for me.

IveBeenBit · 08/06/2020 02:17

FFS! When will people stop desperately looking for reasons to be offended!

She said women menstrate. Because only women can menstratue. Men can't menstrate!

She did not say; 'You're only a woman if you menstrate'. Nothing of the sort.

Fucking ridiculous. People loving being offended and looking to cause trouble. Fuck off.

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 08/06/2020 02:57

I’m enjoying Riley Dennis deciding that the HP books have no author. A little smarter and Dennis could have invoked Barthes.

Way to go if you want to eat your cake and pretend you have an ethical position. When I became aware of the harm industrialised farming causes animals, I gave up meat, I didn’t pretend cows didn’t exist.

differentnameforthis · 08/06/2020 04:52

@bonsaidragon

Ha, I no longer menstruate. What does that make me?

Envied ? Grin

True that!! Grin
Lamahaha · 08/06/2020 05:37

@Blackdoggotmytonguestill

MadamBatty I bagsied George in 1982. Grin but the more, the merrier, I say.
Beat you to it: 1960! (But there is room for many Georges.)
Datun · 08/06/2020 06:13

Every single comment not just supportive of jk, but sick to death of transactivism.

This one sums it up.

What a world we now live in, where someone stating the bleeding obvious gets such abuse from these trans activists who have clearly lost any contact with reality. What is wrong with these people that they want to twist our world and language to fit their stramge perception of reality?

Datun · 08/06/2020 06:21

They've been at it so long they now don't realise that 'people who menstruate' sounds utterly bonkers. And deeply offensive to almost all women.

Most people immediately jump to other examples - 'what next, mothers being called people who give birth?' It instantly pissss them off.

Then the inevitable 'are men ejaculators, then?' And realising how utterly absurd that sounds and how it would never happen, is rather enlightening to all concerned.

Lamahaha · 08/06/2020 06:44

Today's Mail gives JKR's side of the story:

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8397043/JK-Rowlings-tweets-transgender-people-spark-outrage.html

'My life has been shaped by being female.. it's not hateful to say so': JK Rowling hits back at claims she is 'transphobic' for questioning the phrase 'people who menstruate' to describe women

Lamahaha · 08/06/2020 06:47

oops. Posted too soon. Yes, the first part of that article does give her side of the story but it goes on to reiterate her critics.

mcduffy · 08/06/2020 06:57

Can't add much to what's already been said about JKR, other than that she's made it easier for me to be more openly GC on twitter, by being so reasonable and factual. Malcolm Clark is good, too.

Was heartened to see a few more blue ticks come out for her this weekend!

Datun · 08/06/2020 07:06

The times, the mail and the mirror, all carrying the story. All the comments unequivocally supportive of jk and all getting increasingly more fucked off with TRAs.

Helmetbymidnight · 08/06/2020 07:24

186k for jkr - and this is despite twitter being what it is...

Whatsnewpussyhat · 08/06/2020 07:36

A year ago, even if those articles were published, the comments would've been switched off or heavily moderated.

The amount of GC voices on Twitter has also increased.

Helmetbymidnight · 08/06/2020 07:41

id say the voices of transactivism has also increased.
they are so incoherent/inconsistant and angry.

theres a trans man on rossys thread, talking about all the misogyny they experienced growing up. the poor thing doesnt seem able to make any kind of connect between her fierce denial that they are a woman.

kesstrel · 08/06/2020 07:41

@Helmetbymidnight

186k for jkr - and this is despite twitter being what it is...
i wonder if Twitter will cap the number of likes at the same number as her original tweet? But that would be a bit obvious, wouldn't it....
Helmetbymidnight · 08/06/2020 07:43

they cant, can they- trumps tweets regularily get likes in the 300ks! ConfusedGrin

pachyderm · 08/06/2020 08:00

I notice the desperation, because so many TRAs and their supporters are trying to tack racism onto it - trying to accuse JKR of being a racist. Because reasons. Some have accused her of not caring about the BLM cause until it's pointed out to them that she has in fact tweeted about that as well in the last couple of days.

They've been doing that anyway - I see people hashtagging #blacklivesmatter followed by #blacktranslivesmatter even when posting about George Floyd, it's bizarre. There is no cause they won't make about them.

MoltenLasagne · 08/06/2020 08:03

Can't see a single comment on The Times article that is critical of JKR. Once you get out of the woke central of twitter most people understand reality.
