Marilyn is a class act and always was. Really heartened to read his tweets now and for some time now he totally gets the issue.

I tried to RT with comment on a tweet using the IstandwithJKRowling hashtag that was trending and surprise it didn't show up automatically but the istandwithtrans one didHmm

(Agreeing with JK does not mean anti-trans)

DidoLamenting · 07/06/2020 17:49

Is it just stupidity or a deliberate twisting of what she said to misinterpret "only women menstruate" to mean that a women who doesn't menstruate isn't a woman?

So many (faux?) outraged posts along the lines of "I'm menopausal- guess that means I'm not a woman"

Are they really so stupid? If she had said only men get prostate cancer would anyone be dim enough to say well I haven't got it- guess I'm not a man.

Mikki69 · 07/06/2020 17:54

It makes you lucky!!!
And better off!

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 07/06/2020 17:56

Less "stupid" and more "lying", imo.

@Blackdoggotmytonguestill

I woke up, had a nice cup of tea, then scrolled fb. Am mildly boggled that a Jane Austen fan page I follow is currently splashing Rowling blood all up the walls and baying. Jane Fucking Austen fans. She must be rolling in her grave. Confused I give Haddock about six hours before he waded back in to the #narcissistsrus fray. He can’t bear not to be involved. Thanks for the twitter links too. Am still banned after posting that Shon Faye made much more sense when Shon was penning articles about a man wearing make-up than when Shon launched a book about being a woman, so... (am still laughing at Shon’s dark past as gender critical). Never did buy it. Will order a couple more of Jo’s today, and will keep fiercely hoping she stands her ground.
I used to follow a Jane Austen blog on Tumblr, and unfollowed it back in round one of The Great JK Rowling TERFening for the same reason. The blog was great when she stuck to Jane Austen stuff, but then one day she decided we all desperately needed to hear how much she hated a different female author. So I said goodbye.

I wonder if your Facebook page is the same woman? Bet it is. She honestly seemed to think Jane herself would be all aboard this ideology if she only lived in the present day.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 07/06/2020 17:59

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a married man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a transition? Doesn't really roll off the tongue, I feel.

OculusThrift · 07/06/2020 18:00

@Crikey0000

Ha, I no longer menstruate. What does that make me?
I no longer have a womb, so we shall form our own subsidiary.

I love JKR, she speaks for me when I can't find the correct words, and is so so much braver than me to put them out there for all to see.

NeurotrashWarrior · 07/06/2020 18:00

Yep, really interesting to see how that's changed. Earlier on it was ten first thing that came up. Later, twitter offered every available obscure I stand with going till I'd actually typed the whole thing out.

Lamahaha · 07/06/2020 18:07

The IstandwithJKRowling hashtag is also being spammed by TRAs. It seems to be a thing now -- they did that with #genderwoowoo as well.

PenguindreamsofDraco · 07/06/2020 18:12

I got a lovely email back from her office when I emailed in support after the first Maya tweet. Will have to email again tomorrow. Also just ordered the Galbraith novels from my small local bookshop, win win.

I do so hope her defamation lawyers are having a fantastic weekend Grin

mummmy2017 · 07/06/2020 18:13

I was talking to a friend about how Mother Nature is having the last laugh.
During lockdown people are putting on weight and the beer bellies are starting to show.
There are no changing rooms to invade, and won't be for some time, and so when things return to normal a few more people are going to be shocked that we won't quietly be sidelined.

MorrisZapp · 07/06/2020 18:22

Reader, I blocked him.

Lamahaha · 07/06/2020 18:23

Just seen this. Haven't read it yet, but it sounds great:
"they tried to burn her as a witch but...."

Lamahaha · 07/06/2020 18:26

I love this, from that article:

Imagine the Black Lives Matter movement being told to stop using the word “black” and start referring to themselves as “melanins,” and you have some idea what has happened to feminism lately.

merrymouse · 07/06/2020 18:28

Am mildly boggled that a Jane Austen fan page I follow is currently splashing Rowling blood all up the walls and baying.

I wonder if they have actually read the books?

Page after page of women living limited lives because of their sex.

Datun · 07/06/2020 18:30

All these disgusting people were always there. Spreading their misogyny left right and bloody centre.

Social media gives these people peer-to-peer bunk ups. They're all gathered together. Similar to incels. Goading each other on, praising each other's repellent views.

Normal people don't think this way.

Most people aren't on Twitter.

J. K. Rowling is in touch with normal people, whose children are sending pictures to her and to whom she is replying.

The parents of these kids couldn't give a flying fuck about what some sexist twit on the Internet says.

Deliriumoftheendless · 07/06/2020 18:30

How is it inclusive to refer to trans men and non binary females as cervix havers or menstruators or whatever? The argument the TRAs think is including those is to use dehumanising languages. But that’s ok if women get to be told to shut up. Have I understood correctly?

JellySlice · 07/06/2020 18:46

Perfect

Just when you think you couldn’t love JK Rowling more...
JellySlice · 07/06/2020 18:47

From Lamahaha's link.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 07/06/2020 18:52

Ooh Jelly I love that.

JigglypuffsCaptor · 07/06/2020 18:55

I'm not understanding the argument "what about post menaupausal women who don't menstruate" well they did at one time and are therefore women.

I'm sure of I called my 76 year old nan and asked her did she feel she wasn't a woman anymore because she no longer menstruated and had a hysterectomy, she would ask me what I've been smoking in lockdown 😂

TehBewilderness · 07/06/2020 18:56

Applying the divide and conquer strategy to women by dividing us into body parts and bodily functions is an ancient strategy. There are dozens of dystopian novels that include a variation of this well worn trope.
Funny how so many people do not seem to recognize it when it is right in front of their face. On the internet and the streets of the US capitol right now.

BringbackLang · 07/06/2020 18:57

What are these people on? Jane Austen explicitly mentions sex when referring to women in her books because surprise surprise gender woo was not a thing in the regency period. No mentions of gender or innate feelings because they only recognised sex because again gender was not thing.

testing987654321 · 07/06/2020 18:58

Ooh, I have just thought that I should order a couple of her books from my local woke, you-can't-speak-about-women-and-free-speech-because-transphobic bookshop. I get the moral high ground of supporting a local independent business AND support JKR at the same time.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 07/06/2020 19:00

See, testing, in that scenario I'd be tempted to order from Amazon and tell the woke bookshop exactly why they didn't get my business.
