Menstruation is a biological function, not a "woman" thing.

Yes, it's a biological function of the female sex, of which the adults are also known as women.

CarolOnTheIsland · 07/06/2020 14:26

She is inspiring!

7Days · 07/06/2020 14:34

God she's great.

Imagine we are at the stage that stating a material fact along the lines of Water is Wet and getting so much flak.
Its surreal really when you step back and look at it.

testing987654321 · 07/06/2020 14:38

I think I might email Clue, and tell them that as they don't think menstruation is a woman thing, I'll leave them to their many men users instead.

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 07/06/2020 14:38

Marilyn’s on fire tonight. Grin I follow him on Twitter because he’s really funny and touchingly honest.

MonsteraCheeseplant · 07/06/2020 14:40

Marilyn who??

merrymouse · 07/06/2020 14:44

Marilyn on TOTP in 1983.

merrymouse · 07/06/2020 14:50

You know you've reached new levels of stupid when a company that tracks menstruation who markets to women is trying to erase their marketing demographic

Presumably we can trust that they aren't trying to market any pregnancy or fertility apps to the people who use their menstruation app.

MonsteraCheeseplant · 07/06/2020 15:01

thanks Mouse

The ratio of likes to comments on every single one of her tweets since last night is heavily in her favour.

I agree with what people are saying about the rage that she is untouchable. I go to Kings Cross Station quite a lot, on week days, weekends, in the morning, in the middle of the day. And every time I'm there I am once again astonished at the number of people queuing up to get their photo at platform 9 3/4! And the shop is always packed as well. It's unfathomable how much money JK Rowling must have made from Harry Potter.

People are now commenting on other aspects of the books now, that they seemingly used to be completely unbothered by, such as the name Cho Chang. Katie Lueng, who played Cho Chang, has effectively spoken out against Jo by posting loads of links to articles and charities for black trans people. Fair enough I guess, she is entitled to do that.

Emma Watson will be in a right old quandary from here on in, as people will be expecting her to speak out, but at the same time she knows very very well that if it wasn't for HP then the chances of her ever having made it in the acting world, and therefore even having a platform to speak about anything, are pretty much zero.

ThePankhurstConnection · 07/06/2020 15:07

@ItsAllGoingToBeFine

She just tweeted this:

thevelvetchronicle.com/anonymous-letter-from-a-terrified-lesbian-thoughtcrime/

Which is worth a read if you haven't already...

Awful lot of 'cis' 'lesbians involved with 'trans lesbians' responding to this one saying she doesn't speak for them and how dare she speak on behalf of LGBandthealphabettispaghetti. A LOT of them.

I'm glad she is speaking out but the poor woman is going to have a messy, messy twitter after this, worse than it was before.

ThePankhurstConnection · 07/06/2020 15:08

He seems a bit sad at the moment Sad
Haworthia · 07/06/2020 15:14

It seems like the central tenet of the libfem counter-argument focuses on differing experiences of womanhood and that all experiences are valid. Here (linked below) is the usual intersectional bollocks about black woman vs disabled woman vs working class woman vs trans woman. I really, really wanted to retweet that and point out the obvious error in saying that black/disabled/WC women are subsets of the default, aka white able bodied MC woman... but I didn’t.

twitter.com/mckinleaf/status/1269407126109040641?s=21

This tweet is directed at a very specific audience: cis women who don't want to be transphobic but secretly feel like there's a grain of truth to the idea that trans women don't know what it's like to grow up in a female body and be mistreated because of it. I hope this helps.

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 07/06/2020 15:14

This is exactly my reaction, I keep looking at the twitter backlash and it just seems totally bonkers that what's triggered it is someone stating that women menstruate. It's so, so surreal.

MrsFionaCharming · 07/06/2020 15:20

I’m a massive Potter fan, but I’ve never read any of her Robert Gailbraith books. Seems like today is a good day to order some.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 07/06/2020 15:20

A grain. Indeed. A grain the size of fucking Mars.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 07/06/2020 15:21

Floisme
The 'how can she do this during Pride / a pandemic / BLM protests' is so telling. In other words, wait in line, women until there's nothing else going on in the world. It's the woke equivalent of 'after the revolution, Love'.
Yes! The more things change...Hmm

Marilyn has been (haha I was going to say fab on this but he was ALWAYS fabulous Grin) outspokenly GC for a long time on twitter. (& he’s busy flirting with Colin Wright grin] so seems happy - Did I miss something ThePankhurstConnection?)

SkaraBrae · 07/06/2020 15:25

#IStandwithJKRowling trending on Twitter...

JigglypuffsCaptor · 07/06/2020 15:26

I've o my just really woken up to all those I have to say I've been far behind in it all.

But I fell down the rabbit hole for once of a better word sitting in the gerdens of parliament looking at the Emily Pankhurst statue, and I though I really do need to learn more about this, about the suffragettes about women's fight for equality. And 8months later I'm still learning.

I've lurked for quite a while on these boards and always read the informative links and articles. But I think I've sorta peaked with attacks on JK.

marplemead · 07/06/2020 15:34

Disappointed to see the response from Clue. I have deleted my account and the app. Also sent a message explaining why here: support.helloclue.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?mobile_site=true @

merrymouse · 07/06/2020 15:35

all experiences are valid.

Hmm - seem to have heard that word 'all' in other contexts recently...

Lamahaha · 07/06/2020 15:36

I've replied to several of the Mail "she's entitled to her opinion" comments with some variation of "it's not an opinion; it's a fact that only women menstruate" or "men can't become women". Not one has passed through the censor.

DohnJoe · 07/06/2020 15:44

So much bigotry against transgender folk, even here. Unfortunate.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 07/06/2020 15:47

I LOVE HER!

SkaraBrae · 07/06/2020 15:47

Biological reality is not bigotry.
