@Datun

And I think that's the mail on Sunday, not the Daily Mail. Different paper. And they're pre-moderating comments. At least two friends have not had their gc comments published.
True. The reactions to individual comments are probably more telling than the range of comments themselves. I just know I suddenly felt very anxious reading her post and the responses last night and while I rarely tweet anything relating to GC I follow all the “wrong” people and am on a number of block lists, as I’m sure we all are. I’ve just quietly extricated myself from it for now. Will watch with interest.
Datun · 07/06/2020 12:02

I wouldn't worry ginger. It's upsetting, I know. Seeing so much misogyny. But whether you see it or not, it's there. At least this is bringing it out into the open. It's the only possible way to address it. You can't address something you're not hearing or seeing.

And it won't happen overnight. This has to play out.

Narcissistic rage is always the reaction. And this is just on a bigger scale.

But it was inevitable.

Lamahaha · 07/06/2020 12:04

Has the Independent article been posted yet? Again, very biased. I'd like to comment but not prepared to subscribe.

CaraDune · 07/06/2020 12:04

JK is awesome, though!

And it's so interesting to reflect on what she's actually said that's provoked this outpouring of rage. It's basically "sex is real, women are oppressed because of their sex. Trans people are oppressed too, but for different reasons - and we ought to be able to support one another."

But any deviation from the TWA literally W mantra produces complete melt-down.

merrymouse · 07/06/2020 12:05

The blowback on Twitter is irrelevant in the long run. It needs to get into mainstream media, on chat shows, and phone ins.

Agree - minds aren't changed on twitter.

Lamahaha · 07/06/2020 12:13

CourtneyLurve thanks for the Lipstickalley tip -- I've just joined, though I'm not American. But I've seen some threads there I'd like to contribute to once I've been approved for membership. I haven;t seen a JKR thread though, but I'll do a search.

NotBadConsidering · 07/06/2020 12:22

That Independent article is typical of other news articles active right now. According to the articles JK Rowling’s tweets are anti-trans. Not “anti-trans”, not “called anti-trans by some”, not “perceived as anti-trans”.

How do journalists consider themselves impartial when they’ve already decided?

Gncq · 07/06/2020 12:29

I think things are going to get very, very ugly and the GC community will come out the worse off

Yes things are getting ugly, but let's face it, keeping GC opinions as whispered truths behind closed doors that no one else is allowed to hear, has gotten women nowhere.

This is the beginning of a long hill to climb and the furore over JKR's pretty benign tweet will seriously peak a lot of people.

Sophie Walker. Shame she didn't say this when she was the leader of the WEP. I might have carried on with my membership

Oh boo hoo hoo Harrop. Off you pop, sweetheart, no-one is going to miss you.

NotAssigned · 07/06/2020 12:37

To be fair to Sophie, she stepped down.

FruitPastillesaregood · 07/06/2020 12:38

Amazing . I think she has real guts.

MarDhea · 07/06/2020 12:45

Just saw this on boards.ie (big Irish online forum) on a long-running thread about JKR. I've watched opinions on this site go from "live and let live" to outright gender critical over the last couple of years. It's amazing to see peaking in action on a mainstream site and Jo is helping it happen Smile

Haworthia · 07/06/2020 12:46

Apparently they are Femme presenting AFAB Embees

It’s usually spelled “enby” short for “NB” short for “non-binary”. Which in turn in short for “I’m not like the other girls”.

Because y’know, if you reject gender stereotypes and female oppression that makes you special. Female enbys seem to think that the rest of us women are totally happy to be stereotyped and objectified.

NotBadConsidering · 07/06/2020 12:49

Lots of people tweeting about how dare she tweet such stuff in the middle of a pandemic/BLM protests/pride month, including Juno Dawson, who has since tweeted about the launch of Juno’s book 🙄.

Datun · 07/06/2020 12:50

🤣

NotBadConsidering · 07/06/2020 12:55

Juno over the course of 12 hours. Can’t BELIEVE Juno is having a BOOK launch in the middle of a pandemic and global protests. Honestly, I’m exhausted...

Oh, JK. I doubt you will read this, but I want to thank you, sincerely, applaud your calm and sensible words and wish you very well. You're a credit to women everywhere. Star

JigglypuffsCaptor · 07/06/2020 13:04

I think they are enraged because those men can not ruin her career.

She could never write again and still have her billions.

That's why they are angry, they can not pull a successful woman down, she's already made it!

Her platform is untouchable, and they know it, and it shakes their fragile male ego's.

MondayYogurt · 07/06/2020 13:09

I hope one day JKR announces that she is changing her pronouns - just to see the reaction.

NeurotrashWarrior · 07/06/2020 13:10

Unfortunately I believe this is one of the reasons Sophie stood down. Because I don't believe she was allowed to say it.

Lamahaha · 07/06/2020 13:10

CourtneyLurve, omg, that lipstick Rowling thread is gold! So glad to have found such smart black women! I'll be hanging out there a lot, methinks.
