JK Rowling threatening legal action

TheLashKingOfScotland · 29/05/2020 16:52

A TRA and Canadian Green Party rep has made libellous comments about JK regarding her position on trans rights and her suitability to be trusted around children.
JK asked her to retract them or they would hear from JK's lawyers. Currently they are digging in. Seemingly unaware that JK has pursued legal cases based on Twitter comments before and that it isn't acceptable to make unfounded statements about people.
It will be interesting to see how it unfolds.
It could have wider reaching consequences if certain sectors see they can't just make unfounded accusations any more.

She was hideous about Corbyn and had no reason to be other than protecting her own financial interests and kowtowing to those in positions of power in the centrist left-fearing media.

This just seems deranged to me. IIRC she criticised Corbyn's Brexit policy and then took the piss out of twitter Corbynites after getting shit loads of misogynist abuse. Probably some of the same ones who are doing it now over 'trans rights'.

I can't understand this idea that she shouldn't discuss politics.

Bananabixfloof · 29/05/2020 21:05

@famousforwrongreason

She was hideous about Corbyn and had no reason to be other than protecting her own financial interests and kowtowing to those in positions of power in the centrist left-fearing media. She used her position, along with the guardian to ensure that traditional left wing voters would not let a true socialist into parliament. She's much more powerful than people give her credit for and this trans / terf stuff is smoke and mirrors.
That's some serious clout. Glad shes on my team.

Just for info I think there were more posts on here about how atrocious all parties were and why which had more effect than JKs couple of tweets.

BoreOfWhabylon · 29/05/2020 21:15

Bloody love Jo.

What did the tweet say, please? I assume it's been deleted?

nettie434 · 29/05/2020 21:20

and had no reason to be other than protecting her own financial interests

She is a UK taxpayer. She pays a lot of tax each year. I'd contrast her with Steve Coogan who was photographed with Jeremy Corbyn but furloughed his gardener and cleaner. Not in the spirit of the furlough arrangements and certainly not much solidarity with the workers.

nettie434 · 29/05/2020 21:26

Still on there at the moment Bore.

In case it is deleted:
QUOTE: 'Definitely something to keep a close eye on. In recent years, Rowling has made it clear that she can no longer be trusted around children.'

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 29/05/2020 21:37

This Nicola Spurling:

'I will always stand up against hate. It’s crucial that everyone be accepted for who they are (provided they aren’t harming others). The alternative can be deadly.'

  • is cross because JK Rowling tweeted the words of someone convicted for violence against women? Is this what 'standing up against hate' looks like, seems a bit of an odd take.

Wow! Thanks Nettie

Is this Spurlng person anyone I should have heard of before?

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 29/05/2020 21:43

All power to her sword I say. That was a disgraceful comment to make and I can only imagine the gnashing of teeth, wailing and cries of outrage if anyone had made that comment about the author of that vicious and nasty little comment.

Gingerkittykat · 29/05/2020 21:44

I follow her on Twitter and there has been significant interest in her new book. It might not be from the 20 and 30 somethings but it is a book aimed at 7-9 year olds and not an extension of the Harry Potter stories.

What did the tweets say? Does anyone have a screenshot of them?

The article said people are upset that she is not the fount of knowledge that they thought, guess what she is human and you might not agree with everything she says. I respect her stance on loads of things, including paying tax, but am still pissed off with her behaviour during the 2014 independence referendum!

NotBadConsidering · 29/05/2020 22:02

What goes through the minds of these idiots?

“Look! JK Rowling has accidentally tweeted a factual piece of information about a violent transwoman who assaulted a woman as part of a protest! Let’s repeatedly post screenshots of that to draw attention to the fact that Rowling was reading about it. It’s clearly transphobic to read about one of our trans sisters’ acts of violence and tell everyone about it, even by accident. I’m sure everyone will see how transphobic that is, and won’t look into the case of Tara Wolf assaulting Maria MacLachlan!”

Dances · 29/05/2020 22:07

T Wolf.

TheHoneyBadger · 29/05/2020 22:08

Mother, children’s author and philanthropist unsafe around children. Drag queens from the adult entertainment industry welcome in schools.

How can you not reference Orwell?

Again, what she is doing for kids in lockdown

teawamutu · 29/05/2020 22:55

She didn't like Corbyn and wrote a hilarious (and true) thread about him Christmas (I think) before last. She had an opinion. Big fucking whoop.

I luffs her.

NonnyMouse1337 · 29/05/2020 23:00

10 chapters of her new book are up for free. I think more will be added over the next few days.

nauticant · 29/05/2020 23:14

I hope she takes that woman to the cleaners.

In case you're interested, have a google. Especially an image search.

FloralBunting · 29/05/2020 23:20

Well, the twitter profile pic is clearly the beneficiary of some technical wizarding. And that's all imma say about that.

BatShite · 29/05/2020 23:20

I am behind her. Like..if someone had just called her a name or said something nasty then I would think she was a tit for getting the law involved tbh. But accusing her of being a danger to kids...is not merely just nasty. TRAs getting some cosequences might make them chill somewhat, though doubt it. They think tis fine to make up this shit and spred it everywhere hoping it sticks (similar to 'MN is sooooo transphobic' actually)

They really are pissing themselves over her making a mistake though, the gleeful posts are a bit bizarre, it was edited quickly too..

BatShite · 29/05/2020 23:23

Oh, reading further down, themistake was after the accusation? Assumed the accusation was after that..seemed a lot were focussing on 'bad language to a child'..even though it wasn't to the child, was a mistake, and was changed.

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 29/05/2020 23:31

She's a phenomenal woman & one of the very few celebrities standing up for women. Hope she stays strong and does sue the bastard as they nothing but bullies trying to use their brute force to shut women up and 'keep us in our place'.

BatShite · 29/05/2020 23:39

Chinnicus minimus!

Actual laugh there Grin

BatShite · 29/05/2020 23:44

Hold up. I am just clicking this in my head finally. It was about the copy paste. Used as an excuse to basically call her a pedo.

However, the copy and paste, how is that deemed transphobic..quoting a transactivist?! Very odd.

Datun · 29/05/2020 23:48

I can't be the only one who is stunned that they think retweeting what she wrote (by mistake), makes her look negative, and not them.

It's like their five senses operate in a totally different universe.
