JK Rowling threatening legal action

A TRA and Canadian Green Party rep has made libellous comments about JK regarding her position on trans rights and her suitability to be trusted around children.
JK asked her to retract them or they would hear from JK's lawyers. Currently they are digging in. Seemingly unaware that JK has pursued legal cases based on Twitter comments before and that it isn't acceptable to make unfounded statements about people.
It will be interesting to see how it unfolds.
It could have wider reaching consequences if certain sectors see they can't just make unfounded accusations any more.

The expressed violence and hatred for JKR on her twitter threads, mostly by TW (it would appear) just shows their very male origins, IMO.
Most (but not all) women do not react in such a way! Which just shows that TRAs are not, and never can be, actual women - they do NOT have "female brains" or "feel like a woman" - they just want to LOOK like women but still react like men.

Another thing that puzzles me is the accusation that JKR standing up for women's rights somehow is going to cause a bunch of trans-identifying confused teens to commit suicide - how? She's just not that powerful!

I'm glad there are still many people who are standing up for her. I'm certainly with her, not against her.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 07/06/2020 17:26

IME to the extent that there is such a thing as a "female brain" it seems to come with a very low chance of issuing rape and death threats when vexed.

Lamahaha · 07/06/2020 17:35

@stella47

Interestingly John Boyne is speaking up in support of JKR. Didn't he get shit for writing what he meant to be a trans-supporting book?
Yes, but the response then seems to have peaked him. I've seen other GC posts and comments by him lately.
Lordfrontpaw · 07/06/2020 18:03

Neil Oliver (historian) for JK too!

Pertella · 07/06/2020 18:33

Ooh, him with the hair?

FannyCann · 07/06/2020 18:34

Neil Oliver? My memory may be failing me but doesn't he present on shows where Alice Roberts also presents?
Wonder when she's going to suddenly rediscover biology...

Lordfrontpaw · 07/06/2020 18:37

Yes, he of the hair - yes someone asked him to have a word with his co-presenter!

TehBewilderness · 07/06/2020 18:41

I could be totally wrong but I suspect the TRAs organizing dick pics to be posted on the Ickabog children's thread may have been what prompted Jo Rowling to be explicit.

Lordfrontpaw · 07/06/2020 18:44

There was a call for that but they seem to be just plopping in, telling 'but what about BLM??????' then buggering off. They are generally ignored (or ticked off for being puerile).

That so doesn't surprise me.

He wrote a book about a trans person, from their brother's point of view. And was condemned to the underworld, on the basis that he was not trans him self, or that he was not speaking from a trans person's point of view, or he didn't get it, or he actually said they were born a certain sex, or something...

He was an ally.

How many is that now?

FannyCann · 07/06/2020 19:03

Of course the beauty is many parents looking at her thread probably had limited knowledge of the extremes of the ideology. Now they are all seeing it in all its glory. I can't think of any other way, even a large scale advertising campaign, that would have "educated" so many people in one go.

There's hardly another person I can think of, short of the Queen, who could have done so much to peak so many.

Lordfrontpaw · 07/06/2020 19:39

I dunno there’s some American guy with a trans woman partner who seems to really dislike women. Apart from Elizabeth Warren. He’s just had a go at Debbie for standing up for JK in really sexist, rude and insulting terms. But I guess he thinks that he is ‘untouchable’. So Elizabeth - well I know she is ultra woke - but would she centre her feminism first for once and step in? This is why we are going to get another bloody Trump win. It’s like labour over here...

Dick pics? Seriously?!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 08/06/2020 08:12

Yes, there's a screenshot of it somewhere on this or a related thread.

Really? Fuck sakes, no depths to which they wont sink.

I personally think that her having Covid might have propelled her into saying fuck this for a game of soldiers. People are dying in thousands and these clowns are intimidating people into silence on biological reality.

"she is an intelligent women who has taken a careful look at the issue and decided for herself that there is nothing progressive or kind or liberal about a movementthatencourages autistic children to be givenuntesteddrugs. That tells adolescents uncomfortable with their bodies that surgery brings happiness and the alternative is suicide. That tells lesbians they’re bigots if they won’t consider sex with women who have penises. That showers women (and really, it is just women) who question these things with violent and sexualised abuse."

Needmoresleep · 08/06/2020 13:47

Both JK’s (Kirkuk and Rowling) write so well.

Helmetbymidnight · 08/06/2020 13:58

Nice article, thanks for linking.

TheHoneyBadger · 08/06/2020 14:23

Nice article.

CaraDune · 08/06/2020 14:47

Kirkup nails it again!

"The other way to explain JK Rowling’s journey down that road to terfdom is that she is an intelligent women who has taken a careful look at the issue and decided for herself that there is nothing progressive or kind or liberal about a movement that encourages autistic children to be given untested drugs. That tells adolescents uncomfortable with their bodies that surgery brings happiness and the alternative is suicide. That tells lesbians they’re bigots if they won’t consider sex with women who have penises. That showers women (and really, it is just women) who question these things with violent and sexualised abuse.

"I don’t know JK Rowling, but I know which of those two explanations I find more plausible."

BatShite · 08/06/2020 15:16

I saw a post on twitter where someone was adamant that their feet had shrunk as a result of hormones. Not convinced...

Ha. Seen a few along those lines. Along with MANY 'after going on HRT, my driving has declined substancially, I have had 2 accidents in the past moth, HRT is clearly working!', or 'I have found myself becoming really bitchy recently' and such. But no, not sexist nonsense. Not at all Hmm

MoleSmokes · 08/06/2020 16:56

Enderthedragon - yep - "pro-trans art" = "dicks and stuff" apparently.

Who is it who is allegedly "not safe around kids" again?

archive.vn/bGZBD

It says in their submission terms not to send anything "inappropriate"... Who else wants to flood JKs stupid attempt to solicit free marketing materials from children with pro-trans art and like dicks and stuff? #JKRowling #TheIckabog

Either they didn't read her novels or they think she wrote transgender character in The Silkworm and BDD characters in Career of Evil without bothering to research the subjects.
