JK Rowling threatening legal action

A TRA and Canadian Green Party rep has made libellous comments about JK regarding her position on trans rights and her suitability to be trusted around children.
JK asked her to retract them or they would hear from JK's lawyers. Currently they are digging in. Seemingly unaware that JK has pursued legal cases based on Twitter comments before and that it isn't acceptable to make unfounded statements about people.
It will be interesting to see how it unfolds.
It could have wider reaching consequences if certain sectors see they can't just make unfounded accusations any more.

I thought it was the wolf girlfriend who was supposedly head locked by WWF champ Maria the Mangler.

Lordfrontpaw · 31/05/2020 16:57

I think glinner is posting an interview with Maria tomorrow evening

Lamahaha · 31/05/2020 17:04

Glinner :

At 7pm tomorrow I’ll be streaming an interview with Maria MacLachlan and her husband Alan. Maria, who was 61 at the time, was attacked on speakers corner by a 26 year old male and then forced by a judge to call her attacker ‘she’.

Thank you!

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 31/05/2020 17:10

Ages ago I'm sure someone on here posted an email address for JKR's assistant or publisher. I'd like to send her my congrats and thanks, but I'm not on Twitter.

Does anyone have the address?

nauticant · 31/05/2020 17:34

I'd try this:

www.jkrowling.com/enquiries/

I'm planning to send a handwritten letter myself.

SheSheThey · 31/05/2020 20:10

Thankfully the 9 year old recipient of the Tweet gets that people make mistakes and that JKR wasn’t deliberately throwing obscenities in her direction Grin That kids got a great tale to dine out on forever!

Some 9 year olds are more mature than some adults.

I'm finding it interesting how each cycle in the TRAs versus Rowling wars features more OTT responses from TRAs, more firmness from Rowling, and less of a fuck given by the general public. It's an interesting model in terms of testing Douglas Murray's theory about who's best placed to challenge the madness. They eventually gave up on trying to bully Chimamanda Adichie into compliance, and when she was on the (very woke) Daily Show after all that I don't think the host even asked her about it.

Doing the performative outrage/narcissistic injury thing in Rowling's Twitter responses seems like poor strategy in that if you're going to act like you've completely lost your mind on a particular issue then it's probably not the best idea to do so in a space where lots of previously uninvolved people will see you doing it and thus perhaps begin to form opinions about what their thoughts are on that issue.

NotBadConsidering · 31/05/2020 21:15

The outrage at the “he” part of the accidental tweet makes it clear that in the pecking order of crimes to them, “misgendering” is worse than a male assaulting a 61 year old woman.

FloralBunting · 31/05/2020 21:22

Well, that's why 'literal violence' is such a neat rhetorical trick - it creates a linguistic equivalence between using factual language that one person doesn't want to hear and physically attacking someone.

Obviously it's not too difficult to pick apart given time, but if you're faced with a screeching person claiming you've wounded their very soul by not putting an S before an h, and who thinks that physically punching you would be a proportionate response to that, you might not care to delve too deeply into why they are such a scary crackpot.

Lordfrontpaw · 31/05/2020 21:33

They current ‘game’ is to plop onto the twitter thread and say things like ‘what about Covid 19???’ ‘Why aren’t you speaking out against racism????’ ‘Can you send me $$?’

nauticant · 31/05/2020 21:41

Once good thing about looking at the hoo-ha on twitter for me was I got to see this tweet:

twitter.com/Pippyz/status/1266642211875282944

BatShite · 31/05/2020 21:45

I must have been reading this stuff for way too long. I didn't even realise Tara was 'misgendered' in the quote. I thought the outrage was because it quoted Taras own words Blush

Bluebooby · 31/05/2020 21:50

I haven't seen anyone on twitter who is against JK Rowling explain what she actually did wrong on this occasion. Obviously pasting some bad language into her tweet wasn't great, but she fixed it right away and apologised, not a big deal. Nothing that warrants the response she's getting.

NotBadConsidering · 31/05/2020 21:51

The correct sex pronoun for Wolf apparently indicates to them that it was copied and pasted from a “transphobic” website (because any where that correctly sexes people is transphobic of course) and that means Rowling must have been reading such.

I imagine Rowling googled “Tara Wolf Maria MacLachlan” and the first site that comes up is Feminist Current Wink.

BlueBooby · 31/05/2020 21:57

So her crime was reading. Or more specifically, reading a "bad" thing.

FloralBunting · 31/05/2020 21:59

THOUGHTCRIME

AnyFucker · 31/05/2020 21:59

I am feeling a bit fed up this evening

I am going to rewatch the Posie V Harrop vid again. Gauranteed to raise my spirits, 'tis

NotBadConsidering · 31/05/2020 22:00

Yes, not reading “approved” text because apparently just reading from such means you are transphobic. Clearly Rowling didn’t get the version that Winston had put his black pen through and the Feminist Current version didn’t get put down the memory hole.

Someone at the Ministry for Truth is in for a bollocking this morning.

BatShite · 31/05/2020 22:03

Meh. Maybe she was on a 'transphobic website' as she was monitoring the members for indiscretions? Like so many TRAs spend their time doing. How interesting that those who are not TRAs reading 'that stuff' is horrible and bigoted..its only ok if its male people seemingly, and if they screenshot it and post on twitter(with accompanying rant/misogyny) for a wider audience!

FloralBunting · 31/05/2020 22:06

A WOMAN MAKE THOUGHTCRIME.

HULK SMASH!!!!!

Sorry. Too much Marvel. Probably both me and them. I should dither about being English and wizardy which is much more appropriate to the thread.

MrsOfBebbanburg · 31/05/2020 22:16

Grin @FloralBunting. I do enjoy your posts.

TehBewilderness · 31/05/2020 22:55

Would love to know where the hating trans kids thing has came from.
In some ways it seems very juvenile the way people use hate to describe strong negative feelings.
As a matter of historical record the accusation against women of being a man-hater is ancient.
That is the basis for the 2nd rule of misogyny: Women saying no to men is a hate crime.
