JK Rowling threatening legal action

A TRA and Canadian Green Party rep has made libellous comments about JK regarding her position on trans rights and her suitability to be trusted around children.
JK asked her to retract them or they would hear from JK's lawyers. Currently they are digging in. Seemingly unaware that JK has pursued legal cases based on Twitter comments before and that it isn't acceptable to make unfounded statements about people.
It will be interesting to see how it unfolds.
It could have wider reaching consequences if certain sectors see they can't just make unfounded accusations any more.

It is now quite pleasing, that if you search for the good doc on Twitter, JK's 'insensitive' tweet comes up before his profile. Grin

"When people tell you who they are, believe them"- Maya Angelou
DawnRainWinter told the world exactly who they are.

MrsOfBebbanburg · 01/06/2020 00:28

I’m blocked from that account. What did it say?

Aesopfable · 01/06/2020 00:48

Why are they saying they speak for themselves alone? What is that meant to mean? Did someone say it had some legal significance like It am a freeman’ or other such pifle?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 01/06/2020 00:49

Dawn the LARPing poly witch?

My legal name is Gareth Hayes.
I speak for myself alone.
JK Rowling cannot be trusted around kids given her transphobia
Understand just how much this means to me that I am freely giving a name no one outside of blood family (who have not been told I am trans) have used in a long time now...

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 01/06/2020 00:51

They're all doing that, Aesop, not sure why but it does sounds like freeman, sovereign citizen crap.

MrsOfBebbanburg · 01/06/2020 00:54

Thanks TheProdigal

Aesop I think they think they’re protecting NS by claiming their words are their own and not anything to do with NS’s tweet. Which of course is rubbish because they are tweeting as a direct result of and in support of NS, and using NS’s words.

They’re doing the opposite of what they think there doing.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 01/06/2020 00:56

If it's meant to make them sound less culty it's really not working.

Datun · 01/06/2020 01:01

Well, what with the other people asking for $$$ pleeeese or going mad for a mention, they just look unhinged saying their full names and calling her words that no one else on the thread gets.

Sort of batshittery she gets treated to regularly, I imagine.

MrsOfBebbanburg · 01/06/2020 01:04

Good that they’re giving their legal names too. That’ll make it easier for JKRs legal team.

MoleSmokes · 01/06/2020 01:07

I'm blocked by the Gender Critical woman who posted the tweet linked by nauticant - so here is an archived version for anyone else who can't see it when logged in to Twitter (also screenshot):

(Don't know why I'm blocked BTW)

Very curious wording of the follow-on tweet, " . . . I am freely giving a name no one outside of blood family (who have not been told I am trans) have used in a long time now..."

There are some gems on Twitter today. While America burns and we all worry about drowning in our own bodily fluids, behold.

Just had another look at JKR's twitter thread.
Honestly, the misogyny from the TRAs is desperate.
And the way they go on about "How many trans go in fear of their lives and are BEING MURDERED" - I wish they'd stop hyping that up, when more than 2 women a week are murdered in the UK by someone they know, usually a partner or ex partner. Over 100 women a year. How many trans? 19 in the last several years. It just Does Not Stack Up.

Why do people fall for this bollocks?? Angry

Thanks. I had wondered if it was to draw a distinction with NS who notes on their twitter that they are a Canadian Green Party representation and therefore opening up the Canadian Green Party to be sued for libel. Whereas these characters were suggestion that they could only be sued personally and they were not representing their employers/organisations views.
teawamutu · 01/06/2020 08:04

Part of me is wondering whether JK chose to start talking about legal action to really boost this into the public eye. She's one of very few women in the world with the money and the levels of public affection to do this and show up the crazy for what it is.

Aesopfable · 01/06/2020 08:49

She has the money but that doesn’t mean she will throw it away. But I do think this is harassment and therefore the police should be involved (though we know how seriously police take the harassment of women and where their priorities lie, and the CPS would probably say ‘we can’t prosecute as the ‘harassers’ might say she consented to being harassed’)

NotBadConsidering · 01/06/2020 09:02

I’m sure she won’t sue them all, if any, it would only validate their pathetic existence.

Interestingly, in Australia today, media companies have been found liable for comments on Facebook if they post articles that invite comment.

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 01/06/2020 09:08

I think she's brilliant and her profile will bring this to wider attention.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/06/2020 09:09

19 in the last several years.

It's about 9/10 in the last decade

ThinEndoftheWedge · 01/06/2020 09:13

and the CPS would probably say ‘we can’t prosecute as the ‘harassers’ might say she consented to being harassed

Such dystopian times that sadly, this wouldn’t actually surprise me.

She was asking for it.

No she f###### wasn’t. All have autonomy to do what is right as well as wrong.

Lamahaha · 01/06/2020 09:35

I don't think she needs to sue them all. They have outed themselves and their hatefulness, and when she wins this battle (in the wider sense, not the legal one), as she will because it WILL be won eventually, they have shown themselves to be on the wrong side of history. It's there, in black and white.

Common sense will break through and this thing will collapse one day like a house of cards. These people have simply shown who they are, with real names instead of anime cartoons, which at least offered a veneer of protection.
