JK Rowling threatening legal action

A TRA and Canadian Green Party rep has made libellous comments about JK regarding her position on trans rights and her suitability to be trusted around children.
JK asked her to retract them or they would hear from JK's lawyers. Currently they are digging in. Seemingly unaware that JK has pursued legal cases based on Twitter comments before and that it isn't acceptable to make unfounded statements about people.
It will be interesting to see how it unfolds.
It could have wider reaching consequences if certain sectors see they can't just make unfounded accusations any more.

I think she is ok, but I think she is (rightly) angry.

A bit horrified to confess that I agree with Oger, Harrop is chickenshit. All his bluster to Hayden, then he just rolls over like that. He'd be marginally more likable if he actually had the courage of his truly held convictions, but it so blatantly obvious that he's just a pathetic bully he just backs down as soon as he suspects there might be some sort of consequence for him. Such a brave fighter for the LGBT cause...

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 30/05/2020 23:36

@BringbackLang

I just had a quick look on Twitter - some of those replies from the TRA' s... lots of hyperbolic wailing, moaning and screaming. Lots of downright lying. Some of them are not well and none of them think that GC people are human. Literally spitting and frothing.

It's quite shocking really.

It is shocking, I sometimes think I get a bit immune to it as I have seen it for so long. Just imagine how it's going to look to people with fresh eyes... I really hope that now JK and the Baroness are involved the media pick it up and actually look at the issue properly.
BlueBooby · 30/05/2020 23:37

I don't think it's funny that JK Rowling is subject to this abuse, the threats, the smears, slurs and insults.

Me neither, but I think it's helping bring to light the kind of abuse that more "normal" women are getting. And I think the way JK is handling it is pretty glorious.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 30/05/2020 23:39

Yes, I'm in awe of her classy responses.

Melroses · 30/05/2020 23:45

WTF! Just popped in before bedtime, after an evening with curry and a film Shock

Campervan69 · 30/05/2020 23:45

Now it would be really nice if the media actually reported correctly on this but I have only ever seen it reported from the TRA perspective. We shall see.

BringbackLang · 30/05/2020 23:50

They've been so used to getting their own way for such a long time that they don't know what to do when someone says no. Hence the tantrums and the false accusations.

Reality is starting to hit. The house of cards is starting to fall. They will end up feeling guilty for their part in this. The devastation they've caused to women and children's rights. TRA's, instead of helping, have made life infinitely worse for those with genuine gender dysphoria through their demands and bullying.

And ultimately through ignorance and arrogant behaviour they have not made the world a safer or nicer place for anyone. It's not the inclusive utopia they claimed they could make it. They've had a hand in creating nasty, totalitarian dystopia. It's on them.

OccasionalKite · 31/05/2020 00:48

BringbackLang, I disagree with this part of your post:
"They will end up feeling guilty for their part in this. The devastation they've caused to women and children's rights."

I do not believe these extremist Men's Rights Activists will feel any guilt at all. Causing devastation to women and children's rights is their cause and mission. This is Male Supremacy.

BatShite · 31/05/2020 01:14

Watching this unfold is just bizarre. How the fuck do they think this helps their cause, at all?! Wow. Just a bunch of (mainly) males, being aggressive because a woman disagrees with them on something. What a brand new thing.

I find it quite depressing that shes used to this kind of thing though. A lot of men seem to really dislike powerful women having opinions. On the plus side, I think this behaviour is more likely to get heels dug in, than her sulking away to the naughty corner and sending a donation to mermaids, which I imagine is what they expect..

I honestly think a lot of them are totally breaking down now, as more and more sunlight pours onto their bullshit and people wake up to it all. As that was always the last thing they wanted (though, the way they react to stuff probably brought in more sunlight than anything else!).

Someone on here a while back posted something thats stuck, said this will get worse before it gets better and something about 'narcistic rage' going to be the worst bit, is this it?

ItsLateHumpty · 31/05/2020 01:24

Dr Haddock is doing a swan dive from the frying pan, to the fire.

I think Harrop is delighted he finally is getting wider attention to his misogyny.

On the other hand twitter can be lovely - JKR and Fionne Orlander (and 20 of their friends) are off out for a drink together. At JKRs invitation.

I loved the interaction between these two. Poor Fionne is beside himself. She’s invited him and 10 of friends out with her and 10 of her friends.

Fionne - I’m sure is it not short of friends, but if he needs another +1....

She's astonishing. Worldwide fame, family favourite across the globe, but she has her own thoughts and she knows they're too important to ignore so she'll damn well take the backlash. Yes I know she's rich and protected blah blah but fuck me, it takes some strength of character to knowingly put yourself in that place when you don't have to. She does it so very fucking elegantly too. Pitch perfect.

She isn't expressing her every thought, that could potentially be construed as 'dominating the discussion', but she is leaning in and supporting/protecting in quite a careful and strategic way. It's measured, it's sharp and it's overwhelmingly positive.

Besides all that, she's also really just another woman, another person with her own thoughts, her own kids. This horrible social media attack must affect her. Of course it will. Great to see so many people mobilising to defend and support her on that basis. I don't doubt that when women are taking care of her that she's also taking care of women right back, in various ways.

bettybeans · 31/05/2020 03:40

As for Harrop, I'm just sorry that she felt she even needed to acknowledge that little twerp. I get the feeling that his desperate attempts at attracting her attention might well backfire on him within his own social and political circles.

You lost it, Adrian. You said the quiet thing loud and went full on squeaky misogynist. Oops. You'll be waiting a long time yet for anyone of note to take you seriously. Is there anything you are good at? 😄

MoleSmokes · 31/05/2020 05:07

I've heard that he's very good on TV, bettybeans Grin

Dr H:
another middle-aged “inadvertent copy-and-paste” moment, JK? 👀 honestly, embarrassed for you. 🙄

Nope, standing by glorious as a descriptor. I'd like to think anyone who has read my contributions to FWR knows I'm not relishing a woman being abused.

However, I'm not going to call her responses, and the panicked, backfoot responses of the disgusting individuals who have been so wickedly, gleefully misogynistic, anything but an absolute tonic after years of being on the receiving end of their shit.

mcduffy · 31/05/2020 06:24

I enjoyed twitter last night too but went to bed before Maya got involved! Going to catch up now. JKR is even better than I thought she was!

NotBadConsidering · 31/05/2020 07:51

Oh look who’s unlocked their tweets, it’s our favourite cyclepath, back into the world of Twitter with a misogynistic slur of JK Rowling:

Would be great if Rowling and Navratilova could team up. Best doubles pairing ever.

JKR. 💪💪💪💪

And fionne going out for drinks with her 😂😂. So lucky

DragonMamma · 31/05/2020 08:07

She is on classy lady. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Haddock squirm last night - so much so that I got up early to catch up on what had unfolded overnight. Didn’t see Maya wade in but Grin

Alas, I fear you are right, Kite. I live in eternal hope though that people will pause and think of their behaviour and language during this time wonder what they hell they’ve done and feel a deep sense of guilt - especially condescending ‘celebrities’ who have jumped on the genderwoo bandwagon and the people throwing money at Mermaids. I do think there will be a time when it will all come crashing down these people will deny their part in it. Especially large and small businesses, corporations and organisations who supported this such and who have acted in a unprofessional and biased way (such as Twitter, Facebook, local authorities , police, the NHS, NSPCC, M&S, that ‘Feminist’ bookshop and many more).

I hope that Stonewall gets the strong leader it so desperately needs and goes back to its core values and not continue on the path it has. I suspect however that It has gone too far, that they know this and are desperately clinging on.

Yep, this is exactly what those of us who're familiar with narcissistic personality disorder from a clinical perspective saw coming.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 31/05/2020 08:54

(Though I think it will get worse than this, this is just meltdown phase one.)
