JK Rowling threatening legal action

A TRA and Canadian Green Party rep has made libellous comments about JK regarding her position on trans rights and her suitability to be trusted around children.
JK asked her to retract them or they would hear from JK's lawyers. Currently they are digging in. Seemingly unaware that JK has pursued legal cases based on Twitter comments before and that it isn't acceptable to make unfounded statements about people.
It will be interesting to see how it unfolds.
It could have wider reaching consequences if certain sectors see they can't just make unfounded accusations any more.

Can you post a screen shot, please, @ItsAll? I'm not on twitter any more.

Can someone please arrange a date between JKR and the Baroness? I would really, really like that to happen.

CamperVan beat me to it Grin

It was only on the 29th that JK accidentally tweeted about when Maria was attacked.

Thanks for explaining the timeline TheLashKingofScotland. The problem is - as others have often pointed out - is that saying someone is not safe around children is among the most serious accusations that can be made. It can't really be resolved by a 'sorry not sorry' apology.

Harrop has fucked up here:

He's canny enough to realise that if he rolls over and offers up his tummy he'll avoid being called to account. What a fucking case he is.

Bluebooby · 30/05/2020 22:49

It's like McGonagall Vs Draco Malfoy.

Campervan69 · 30/05/2020 22:50

Was Oger looking in a Crystal ball? Wonder what consequence Oger has seen coming.

Campervan69 · 30/05/2020 23:04

Dunno but glad we are not as mad as Canada (yet)

Can safely ignore that irrelevant fool miles away across the seas.

Reads a bit like a threat or a gloat imo. MRA stylie

Lordfrontpaw · 30/05/2020 23:07

Well JK has just invited FIonne out for a drink... just another night in Twittersville.

FannyCann · 30/05/2020 23:08

I'm not so sure. He's not at all canny for starters. And this time he has two formidable and powerful women after him. Baroness Nicholson intends "to make him rather more unhappy". JKR is not impressed. She is married to an anaesthetist. Fun fact I didn't know, but according to 🥝 farms (OK maybe not a fact..but probably) he initially tried to train as an anaesthetist but didn't make the grade and ended up opting for GP training. I think a complaint to the GMC from JKR, her husband and Baroness N might finally elicit some action.

FloralBunting · 30/05/2020 23:08

I shouldn't be enjoying this so much, should I? I should be sober and sensible. But JK Rowling has weighed up the lie of the land and her integrity has meant that when finally stepped fully into the fray, she did not fucking mess about, and they are shitting themselves.

It is bloody glorious.

FannyCann · 30/05/2020 23:14

It is bloody glorious

It really is. I keep pouring another Wine and by the time I get back from the fridge another development is leaving me ShockGrin.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 30/05/2020 23:15

Indeed, @Floral

Campervan69 · 30/05/2020 23:15

Also they have got so used to intimidating and harassing women on Twitter that they just can't help themselves. They think they can say whatever they want and get away with it.

TheChampagneGalop · 30/05/2020 23:16

It IS bloody glorious.

Mollyollydolly · 30/05/2020 23:18

Never enjoyed a night on twitter as much. The Baroness, JK, Harrop. Really think he's gone too far this time. GMC will be calling.

Dances · 30/05/2020 23:19

Well the Fionne thread is rather wonderful, as both of them are

Aesopfable · 30/05/2020 23:23

I don’t think we should call it ‘glorious’. JKR has been seriously libelled. Yes she may have money to pursue it though courts and I hope she does and it brings the whole sordid tale of TRAs to light. But it is not nice what has happened to JRK - so I won’t call it glorious.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 30/05/2020 23:23

@Campervan69

Yep. Have a tantrum, threaten people, bully, insult, malign. Usually Twitter has their back.

But at some point the sunlight arrives, and then ...

Glad the TRAs are putting their best people on this, it's really helpful.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 30/05/2020 23:25

Is that honestly the METRO using a term that has been acknowledged in court as being a misogynist slur? To describe JK Rowling?

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 30/05/2020 23:27
  • and I agree, Aesop, much as its entertaining to see the Keystone cops falling about, I don't think it's funny that JK Rowling is subject to this abuse, the threats, the smears, slurs and insults. I hope she is okay.
BringbackLang · 30/05/2020 23:33

I just had a quick look on Twitter - some of those replies from the TRA' s... lots of hyperbolic wailing, moaning and screaming. Lots of downright lying.
Some of them are not well and none of them think that GC people are human. Literally spitting and frothing.

It's quite shocking really.
