Liz truss has just stated on Twitter that the GEO logo should NOT be on the front of Equaliteach's resource Free to Be as alerted by Maya Forstater

Twitter thread here

How do these people think they can get away with doing this?

Actually, I think the GEO also has some liability here and should also issue a public apology to TransgenderTrend, Women’s Place et al. They funded this rubbish therefore they are complicit in its production.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 01/05/2020 17:11

Well, TRAs are now out claiming Truss is supporting the 'hate groups' Women's Place, transgendertrend and fair play for women.

At some point, someone will need to show clearly how they've arrived at the assertion that feminist groups are 'hate groups'. They'll need to show their workings. People will want to see the evidence. And there's none.

Keep the sunlight coming.

I agree. An apology is definitely in order. I think the document has four things wrong with it:

  • Arguably defamatory content about Transgender Trend, Woman's Place and Fair Play for Women

  • Serious misrepresentation of the Equality Act to the extent that the advice they give about changing rooms etc is unlawful

  • Content that is inappropriate for a primary school age group (eg nonsense about being pansexual)

  • Dodgy safeguarding advice, e.g. on p.34 it says there is no need to inform parents if a child discloses they are transgender. The changing rooms and toilets advice is dodgy from a safeguarding point of view as well as being unlawful.

The thought that schools are actually downloading and using this document is quite shocking.

Lordfrontpaw · 01/05/2020 17:16

It is a good demonstration of bad faith. Schools really should be looking at it and understanding that not everything is as it seems and you really can’t take things on face value. Just because something looks pretty and has official looking logos - doesn’t mean it should be swallowed wholesale.

They have made their ‘customers’ look like fools.

teawamutu · 01/05/2020 17:33

I would hope that this will result in more oversight of projects given government funding.

If GEO et al are aware that if something legally dodgy goes out (a) the public will notice and care and (b) the Minister won't defend it, they're going to have to do their homework. Maybe even be a little more careful about who they fund and under what conditions...

GEO have publicly distanced themselves

Liz truss seems really on the ball with all this

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 01/05/2020 17:40

I noted the bit about pansexuality. In relation to primary school age children, this certainly strikes me as odd, to say the least. What other kinks are we teaching young kids about?

Lordfrontpaw · 01/05/2020 17:53

No apologies from EqualTeach.

That excellent that GEO tweeted that.

I was a little worried that Liz Truss was saying and not doing iyswim.

SarahTancredi · 01/05/2020 18:09

So what happens now do they have a legal obligation to inform everyone they sent it to that it is not endorsed after all?

Can schools still use it anyway?

WTFSeriously · 01/05/2020 18:26

They're on speed dial to Scottish Trans Alliance & "... other trans and LGBT equality organisations, human rights lawyers and academics..." so I'm guessing they'll give it 🤷🏻‍♀️ on the mea culpa.

As someone has pointed out on that Twitter thread, if it's not endorsed by the government, what the hell is it doing being taught to our kids?

They are saying that these things are law, that you have to comply with what they are saying otherwise you are in breach of the equality act, that it is a legal duty - (and a moral duty, but that just makes them look like extremist twats).

Sexnotgender · 01/05/2020 18:41

Interesting... slowly slowly catchy monkey.

Can you imagine this happening 6 months ago? I can’t.

Their little house of cards is slowly falling.

An excellent question. You'll notice that the EqualiTeach pack has a lot in common with the trans toolkits issued by Oxfordshire County Council, Warwickshire County Council and many other local authorities. Those toolkits also, surprise, surprise, have a lot in common with the Allsorts toolkit and other toolkits produced by a variety of trans lobby groups around the country. The recently-withdrawn CPS guidance was also quite similar.

It's almost as if there is a tiny cabal of ideological zealots who are successfully pushing out this nonsense to public sector organisations who are too time-pressed (or possibly too lazy) to investigate it properly.

Funny, that.

RedDogsBeg · 01/05/2020 20:43

WTFSeriously that tweet from Scottish Trans Alliance is so bloody sinister and lays bare their end goal of the complete dismantling of single sex segregated provision and thus safeguarding, dignity and privacy go out the window - and no-one in the GEO employs the critical thinking required as to who this benefits and why?????

You would think that anything produced on the back of 'Queering the Classroom' would give pause for thought, the title alone should have rung alarm bells.

NearlyGranny · 01/05/2020 21:49

I wonder if this is an example of the ill wind of the pandemic lockdown blowing some good in giving some smart and observant people some unexpected time to notice, consider and investigate things?

R0wantrees · 01/05/2020 22:35

EqualiTeach proudly annouce:

173
Schools & colleges worked with us
14,560
Young people attended our workshops
1,560
Education staff trained

equaliteach.co.uk/for-schools/

The impact may be significant.

James Morton of Scottish Trans Alliance has had considerable influence not just in Scotland. Morton was an 'expert' witness to Maria Miller's Women & Equalities Trans inquiry 2015

OhHolyJesus · 01/05/2020 22:50

James Morton is on the GEO LGBT panel so when Scot Trans Alliance say they are talking to the panel do they mean James is just on the same call?

R0wantrees · 01/05/2020 22:53

Think Scottish Trans Alliance has two full time employees, perhaps its the other person?

I can't see it here - Baroness Nicholson's letter to Liz Truss.

Lordfrontpaw · 02/05/2020 00:22

There’s a twitter tantrum going on with lots of people sharpening their crayons to ‘write to their MP’ about This Sort is Thing. I do hope that MPs will start being the adults in the room now.

OvaHere · 02/05/2020 00:58

I would hope that this will result in more oversight of projects given government funding.

Quite. It's no good handing out government funding without a clear understanding of what you are funding. Yet it seems this is what is happening.

It reminds me a bit of the Theranos debacle.

I wonder if this is an example of the ill wind of the pandemic lockdown blowing some good in giving some smart and observant people some unexpected time to notice, consider and investigate things?

In my experience public sector/civil service type jobs on a day to day basis are often filled with meetings and engagements that don't provide as much in the way of value as they should. I wouldn't be at all surprised if MPs now have the time to do reading, researching and other aspects of the job they usually can't make time for.

WTFSeriously · 02/05/2020 01:27

That clip with Peter Dunn is very revealing & well worth the watch. Peter Dunn, who was cited by Scotgov in the EQIA via his 'paper' which compared males in female space to women who have had a mastectomy. Peter Dunn, who Scotgov couldn't then dissociate fast enough from when questioned in Scottish Parliament by Joan McAlpine.

'Tis a very tangled web this.
