Liz truss has just stated on Twitter that the GEO logo should NOT be on the front of Equaliteach's resource Free to Be as alerted by Maya Forstater

Twitter thread here

How do these people think they can get away with doing this?

Oh dear Ikeasucks that list seems to have missed off sex entirely and added a protected characteristic which doesn't exist.

PronounssheRa · 01/05/2020 15:50

Head of Operations at equaliteach has just protected her tweets.

That doesn't seem very professional, something to hide?

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 01/05/2020 15:50

Maybe it's the Government communication service that would deal with this:

'I’m an outside body, where can I get permission to use a government logo for co-branding?

If you have received content, funding, or support of your service from a government department, then you may be entitled to use government branding. Please ensure you have permission from the department which you worked with. The HM Government logo should be used, rather than a specific departmental logo, and should have prominence whenever possible.'

This week be lookin' very much like a sea change, don't you think?Grin

Lordfrontpaw · 01/05/2020 16:04

Not many people who give it more than a minutes thought think that this is all ok.

RoyalCorgi · 01/05/2020 16:11

Maya's Twitter thread is very good. But there's a whole load of other stuff wrong with the document, some of which is mentioned in this excellent article by Caroline ffiske:

conservativewoman.co.uk/truss-has-a-tanker-to-turn-at-the-equalities-office/

MForstater · 01/05/2020 16:12

They were funded by GEO as part of this big consortium grant for anti-homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying -- Stonewall, Mermaids etc... they have all had money from this pot.

I wonder if the logo going on the front cover was overenthusiastic, rather than 'false' but in any case people not paying enough attention to what the hell was being published with their logo on.

Hopefully a good thing as its brought it to Liz Truss's attention Grin

Such awful guidance

MrsSnippyPants · 01/05/2020 16:14

Well, this is not news I was expecting on a Friday afternoon. The dominoes are falling, the wheels are coming off, there is a breach in the dam; bring on all the cliches, I am raising a glass to Liz Truss tonight!

She has achieved more for women in a few days than her predecessors did in years. More power to her, keep going Liz!

Lordfrontpaw · 01/05/2020 16:14

You don’t use a logo without consent. You aways check if it’s ok! Either changing it or just star struck by their own brilliance🙄

Lordfrontpaw · 01/05/2020 16:15

Chancing not changing.

RoyalCorgi · 01/05/2020 16:16

About their funding - they're a CIC, so you can see their accounts here:

beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/08523414/filing-history

Although this particular document was funded by the GEO, it looks as if most of their income comes from "sales", which I assume relates to training. Can't think what else it might be - any ideas?

Melroses · 01/05/2020 16:20

There seems to be a fundamental problem with these organisations that produce 'resources' and get stickers all over them.

That is that they do not seem to understand the Equalities Act at all. Since that is what their resources are supposed to be base on, what is the point of them. I don't see how you can 'tweak' what they produce when they do not fundamentally understand that which they base their work on.

It all need binning, including all these orgs, and starting afresh from the govt down.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 01/05/2020 16:21

Reminds me of LGTBYS who put out a similarly dodgy document in Scottish schools with the ScotGov logo all over it, that was later withdrawn...

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 01/05/2020 16:22

Training, workshops, consultation and classroom resources, it says on their website.

equaliteach.co.uk/for-schools/classroom-resources/

Rev 4 now on their website as a download - with no logo.

I downloaded Rev 3 earlier, with the logo.

Melroses · 01/05/2020 16:22

It is like the stonewall ponzi pyramid scheme - produce lots of flawed guidance and then make money training organisations in it. Award schemes?

Melroses · 01/05/2020 16:24

Yes, they have Equalities Awards. Who knew?

TheShoesa · 01/05/2020 16:33

False was perhaps the wrong word, 'used without permission' might have been a better choice - I'll see if I can get it changed.

OP posts:
Clymene · 01/05/2020 16:33

Creating their own awards seems to be a big thing doesn't it?

This document is an absolute shitshow

PronounssheRa · 01/05/2020 16:33

This tweet is bang on the money

truthisarevolutionaryact · 01/05/2020 16:39

How is this not the systematic grooming of children? Insisting that children must accept the opposite sex in their changing rooms when undressing, their dormitories when sleeping. Telling random adults to keep secrets from parents about a child's confusion about their sex? Undermining every school's safeguarding policy.

This has to stop.

allmywhat · 01/05/2020 16:42

I think it is normal for a third sector org to use the logo of a funder on documents produced with that funding. I have worked with EU grants and we put the EU logo on absolutely everything we produced.

The issue here is that the document is such a shitshow that the funder has asked for its logo to be removed. Presumably no further funds will be disbursed from that grant if any remain to be disbursed!

Lordfrontpaw · 01/05/2020 16:48

You still check someone else’s logo before publishing - it’s a courtesy.

JoMumsnet · 01/05/2020 16:49

@TheShoesa

False was perhaps the wrong word, 'used without permission' might have been a better choice - I'll see if I can get it changed.

We've edited the title now, as requested.

Aesopfable · 01/05/2020 16:51

Removing the logo is not enough. They should be raising serious questions about how an organisation with such a overt disctiminatory agenda and/or so little knowledgde was awarded funding in the first place. And pull any future funding. And require them to issue an apology to all the organisations they defamed, and females as a class.

teawamutu · 01/05/2020 16:52

Liz Truss is not going to be intimidated by the TRAs, is she? This is excellent stuff.
