Rich celebrities produce lockdown video denouncing 'transphobia'

jadefinch · 31/03/2020 09:52

They include Kathleen Ryan, Stephen Fry, Frankie Boyle, Jameela Jamil, Dawn Butler, Matt Lucas, Jeremy Vine and Susie Green.

None of them explain what transphobia actually is, or what a trans person is or what a woman is, but some of the comments include Ryan saying 'there are weirdos out there who care about what bathroom you use' (presumably Ryan believes the mother of the girl Katie Dolatowski sexually assaulted in a supermarket girls' toilet is a 'weirdo') and Stephen Fry, who spent about a decade mocking creationists on QI, saying that trans people just want to be their authentic selves, without offering any scientific support to what he was saying.

And they've made this video as we're now entering more than 200 deaths per day in the UK due to coronavirus.

Fortunately I already regarded most of those people with the utmost contempt. It's almost satisfying to learn that Stephen Fry isn't nearly as clever as he thinks he is.

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 31/03/2020 10:03

Good grief. That's as cringey as the celebrity 'imagine' song.
It's utterly shocking how invisible and irrelevant women are to some people. A year ago, I would have been upset. Now all I can think is 'what a bunch of twits'. Hmm

AbsintheFriends · 31/03/2020 10:06

It has the distinct reek of desperation about it.

I feel sorry for celebs in the current crisis. There they are, shut in their exclusive multi-million pound properties with hardly anyone to tell them how special they are, frantically trying to think of new ways to get attention and look noble and magnanimous. Applauding NHS frontline staff and supply chain workers is so last week. What's a virtue-signalling sleb to do?

BovaryX · 31/03/2020 10:17

What a bunch of vacuous tossers.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 31/03/2020 10:19

Well, there's a very odd video. How utterly tone deaf.

BringbackLang · 31/03/2020 10:28

Many elderly people are stuck in their homes alone, frightened with no one to talk to. The poorest Families are struggling for food, food banks are running low. Victims of DV are stuck doors with their abusers with nowhere to escape too. Children are missing out on an education and people are dying because of this virus but hey ho let's make a video about transphobia because that's FAR more important.

These people are just completely cut off from reality. What a bunch of tosspots.

Halfeatentoast · 31/03/2020 10:32

Yes the cognitive dissonance of mocking those who believe in God but accepting this whole has always upset me.

KaronAVyrus · 31/03/2020 10:33

What a bunch of self absorbed arseholes.

I’m very hopeful the this pandemic results in people listening to actual experts and not some “celebrities” pontificating about any old shite that pops into their heads.

WrathofFaeKIopp · 31/03/2020 10:35

Jeremy Vine at around 28 mins.
He describes his 7 year old self seeing a David Bowie picture on his album.

Bowie looked like a woman and this blew seven year old Jeremy Vine's mind.

I remember those times too Jeremy, you are not special or unique for thinking this.

But you don't understand safeguarding do you Jeremy?
Girl Guides are welcoming male bodied women in their ranks even on overnight trips. No risk assessment and parents are not to be informed.
Prisons now have male bodied women housed with women without their consent.

There are many, many other examples Jeremy Vine.

Does this blow you mind Jeremy Vine?

These people do not care about vulnerable women and girls.

KaronAVyrus · 31/03/2020 10:36

Jeremy Vine is only famous because the BBC is one old boys club.

zanahoria · 31/03/2020 10:36

Is this the same Matt Lucas who used to dress up as a laydeee and a ladyboy on Little Britain

Faez · 31/03/2020 10:39

I didn't get very far, the cringe was too strong

Oncewasblueandyellowtwo · 31/03/2020 10:42

WrathofFaeKIopp

I watched that and was thinking what is he on about!
Are they saying that Bowie was trans?

KaronAVyrus · 31/03/2020 10:42

Frankie Boyle who regularly makes offensive jokes about children with special needs?

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-33815626

Stephen Fry and his misogynistic out look on Life

Really, is this the best they could get? Laughable.

Michelleoftheresistance · 31/03/2020 10:44

A group of overpaid people who don't really understand what they're talking about, publicly standing up for male supremacism.

Wow. Well those optics are interesting.

RoyalCorgi · 31/03/2020 10:44

I think the timing is to do with International day of trans visibility or whatever it's called, because trans people are invisible the rest of the time.

AnyFucker · 31/03/2020 10:45

Irrelevant background nose, all of them

AnyFucker · 31/03/2020 10:45

*noise

WrathofFaeKIopp · 31/03/2020 10:46

Transing children Jeremy.
Are you completely completely comfortable with medicating healthy children for their whole lives?

Are you completely comfortable with
non medical people being very pro active and going into schools promoting this?

Would this this blow your seven year old mind Jeremy Vine?

Lordfrontpaw · 31/03/2020 10:48

Well the usuals suspects I assume, or people with thick PRs. Anyone remember Brass Eye 'Cake'?

Barracker · 31/03/2020 10:51

I for one am hugely relieved that these slebs have fully embraced the adage "give 'em enough rope..."

Sometimes people illustrate their utter vacuous narcissm so perfectly during a time of national and global crisis, that you can simply sit back and leave them to it. Observers who once might have indulged their self obsession in easier times, watch now and think wtaf.

Spectacular own goals abound.

BovaryX · 31/03/2020 10:51

Are they saying that Bowie was trans?

Got to admit, I didn't make beyond the introduction, but Bowie had more talent in a toenail clipping than this assortment of clowns combined....

MrsDoylesTeaBags · 31/03/2020 10:51

Come on now BringBackLang. Transgender people are the most vulnerable and marginalised members of our society. Lisa Nandy told us so.

Stop indulging the elderly and unwell, the poor and the destitute, those living in fear in their own home, those who don't know how they'll keep a roof over their heads. Those poor kids who spent 11 years of their lives studying for exams they'll never get to take and now face a world of uncertanty.

None of those people need to worry about whether hair dye is an essential item and if people will still see their authentic selves when their lippy runs out, or even if people will still fawn over them when the mask starts to slip, have a heart now.

WrathofFaeKIopp · 31/03/2020 10:52

Oncewasblueandyellowtwo
Are they saying that Bowie was trans?

Bowie did his own unique thing in his own unique way.
Bowie didn't conform to gender stereotypes therefore he wasn't trans.

MrsDoylesTeaBags · 31/03/2020 10:52

And no, I didn't watch it. Even on furlough I don't have time for that shit.
