Rich celebrities produce lockdown video denouncing 'transphobia'

They include Kathleen Ryan, Stephen Fry, Frankie Boyle, Jameela Jamil, Dawn Butler, Matt Lucas, Jeremy Vine and Susie Green.

None of them explain what transphobia actually is, or what a trans person is or what a woman is, but some of the comments include Ryan saying 'there are weirdos out there who care about what bathroom you use' (presumably Ryan believes the mother of the girl Katie Dolatowski sexually assaulted in a supermarket girls' toilet is a 'weirdo') and Stephen Fry, who spent about a decade mocking creationists on QI, saying that trans people just want to be their authentic selves, without offering any scientific support to what he was saying.

And they've made this video as we're now entering more than 200 deaths per day in the UK due to coronavirus.

deary me - so dense light bends round them

they really dotn give a fuck about women do they

ah well that's bake off dead to me now....

ScapaFlo · 31/03/2020 11:56

I used to love QI when it first came out, it was falling-off-the-sofa-laughing funny. But as time went on it just became all about Stephen Fry and he didn't give the guests time to answer. And he just ignored all the women he had on there, he hated it if they were funny. I was so relieved when Sandi Toksvig took over, it had become unwatchable. He's an arse.

WrathofFaeKIopp · 31/03/2020 12:15

I would have thought Jeremy Vine would want to distance himself from this, when child safeguarding is such a concern these days.

What with working at the BBC and all that.

jadefinch · 31/03/2020 12:19

Labour has also put together something for Trans Day Of Visibility - as the death toll from the virus gets higher and higher - and the replies tell you how unelectable they now are: twitter.com/LGBTLabour/status/1244889989340712962

Even if one isn't "gender critical", which I'm not particularly, this is utterly tone deaf (as well as being 48 minutes long fgs)

Groups far more important at the moment.

  1. Anyone living in isolated conditions - particularly in a rural area.
  2. Anyone house bound with an abusive partner or parent (yes I concede that may well include trans individuals but will be very far from only them)
  3. Homeless people.
  4. Animal rescue centres (loss of staff and funding)

I'm sure you can all think of other priority categories.

Lordfrontpaw · 31/03/2020 12:24

Labour didn't celebrate international woman's day, did they?

Lordfrontpaw · 31/03/2020 12:28

Groups far more important at the moment -

Families/households living with a violent or unreliable parent/carer who are not yet on the radar (this could be the straw that breaks the camels back).
Households living in cramped, damp or dangerous homes

KaronAVyrus · 31/03/2020 12:31

You can rely on the Labour Party to have its finger on the pulse as to what is really important. 🤦‍♀️

WrathofFaeKIopp · 31/03/2020 12:33

I rather like the Jeremy Vine show but I feel this is tainting his 'perfect' jovial man image.
He has a wife, daughters and a mother.

Does he not care that any male bodied woman can ingratiate themselves into single sex spaces that is legally their right...at the moment.

If the the law is changed to allow any male to self identify.

Do you not care about any woman, vulnerable or not Jeremy?

Do your homework Jeremy Vine.
Pleeeease.

BringbackLang · 31/03/2020 12:34

All the police forces posting about transdayofvisibilty are getting a pasting on Twitter. People are not having it.

WrathofFaeKIopp · 31/03/2020 12:39

Apologies, that comes across wrong.

I mean it's a womens legal right to have single sex spaces.

Vaginandtonic · 31/03/2020 12:40

Why is it so looooong?!

Also, I have to come out and say this: I fundamentally disagree with Susie Green and am horrified by what happened with her child. But she has really amazing hair!

WrathofFaeKIopp · 31/03/2020 12:42

Yes I've noticed how stunning SG is looking since her Ted talk.

WrathofFaeKIopp · 31/03/2020 12:44

That was an observation.

Inappropriatefemale · 31/03/2020 12:45

Why do some celebs always think they know everything?! They irritate me no end, narcissistic buggers that they are.

WrathofFaeKIopp · 31/03/2020 12:53

Jonathan Ross knows.
J K Rowling knows.
Alison Moyet knows.

Most of the worlds' population knows.

Yes we must look after the vulnerable but we can see this with our own eyes.

Lordfrontpaw · 31/03/2020 12:54

Quite often... they know bugger all. Not much real-life experience, surrounded by similar people, think they fart roses...

Inappropriatefemale · 31/03/2020 12:59

Same when it’s a political issue, they come on their social media and talk to us like we know fuck all, and Fry is the worst out of the mentioned ones.

NeutralJanet · 31/03/2020 13:04

Of course Jameela Jamil, chief of the handmaidens, is in it. She clearly hasn't had any attention for a whole week, however is she coping?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 31/03/2020 13:11

My Facebook just got inundated with Guess what today is? posts.

My Facebook got woke!!!

FFS!

Redshoeblueshoe · 31/03/2020 13:29

It's almost satisfying to learn that Stephen Fry isn't nearly as clever as he thinks he is.

As my colleague says, "Stephen Fry is a stupid person's idea of a clever person".

SquishySquirmy · 31/03/2020 13:40

If I'm outside but I identify as being inside am I excused from the normal lockdown rules?

WrathofFaeKIopp · 31/03/2020 13:57

As my colleague says, "Stephen Fry is a stupid person's idea of a clever person".

GCAcademic, your colleague must be a very perceptive person.
IMO Stephen Fry just gets a ton of fawning.
