Rich celebrities produce lockdown video denouncing 'transphobia'

jadefinch · 31/03/2020 09:52

They include Kathleen Ryan, Stephen Fry, Frankie Boyle, Jameela Jamil, Dawn Butler, Matt Lucas, Jeremy Vine and Susie Green.

None of them explain what transphobia actually is, or what a trans person is or what a woman is, but some of the comments include Ryan saying 'there are weirdos out there who care about what bathroom you use' (presumably Ryan believes the mother of the girl Katie Dolatowski sexually assaulted in a supermarket girls' toilet is a 'weirdo') and Stephen Fry, who spent about a decade mocking creationists on QI, saying that trans people just want to be their authentic selves, without offering any scientific support to what he was saying.

And they've made this video as we're now entering more than 200 deaths per day in the UK due to coronavirus.

Jeremy Vine is Tim Nice But Dim.

Stephen Fry is just a smart Alec and cannot actually think

Frankie Boyle is quite unpleasant.

Dawn Butler is officially thick and we all know it.

Matt Lucas - misogynist as all of Little Britain demonstrates.

The others - who?

testing987654321 · 31/03/2020 17:37

"the wachowsk's are certainly women now"

I wonder how Fry feels about having made that statement. Does he think he is being nice and kind?

Datun · 31/03/2020 17:40

Vine is everywhere, at the moment. I can't believe he is stupid enough to align himself with someone who co signed Tatchell's children sex lesson demands. Perhaps he didn't do his due diligence. Or maybe he did...

testing987654321 · 31/03/2020 17:40

Jeremy Vine, just leaving this here

Tbf Jeremy Vine can dress up however he likes but...
Supporting the legal fantasy of changing sex is not what the majority of people want.
The majority of people are not transphobes.

These 'celebs' seem to grossly misunderstand this simple truth.

We object to medicating healthy people and healthy children and being led into irreversible medical pathways.

Melioration · 31/03/2020 17:55

Hmm.

Melioration · 31/03/2020 17:56

That was to previous post

popehilarious · 31/03/2020 18:01

It's transphobic of Fry to say or imply they were ever anything other than women. Why is he not getting called out for that?

fireflower998 · 31/03/2020 18:07

they can't work or earn money at the moment but what they can do is score woke points by insinuating that trans folk don't have the same rights that the rest of us do and waving their rainbow flags to show how right on they are....

LadyQuarantinaPluckington · 31/03/2020 18:34

Tbh, I've always thought J Vine the lesser brother. At least Tim's lame jokes can be quite amusing amongst the excruciating mugging for the audience. Jeremy does that without the puns.

MrGHardy · 31/03/2020 18:36

"Fortunately I already regarded most of those people with the utmost contempt. It's almost satisfying to learn that Stephen Fry isn't nearly as clever as he thinks he is."

Or he just wants to score points with the young, woke crowd?

Lordfrontpaw · 31/03/2020 18:50

His hubby is quite a bit younger so maybe he is just trying to keep ‘Dahn wiv da yoof’?

ThePankhurstConnection · 31/03/2020 18:54

Well ok, but do they say what constitutes transphobia? I bear trans people no ill will, I think the whole 'trans rights are human rights' is a misnomer since there are no human rights they do not have in this country. I haven't hurt any trans people physically (or anyone else for that matter, I'm not violent). What I have done is support the right of lesbians, bisexual people and gay men to re-organise themselves and focus on their 'community', support women's rights and believe in biology. Now, I don't regret any of that and I'll carry on. So what EXACTLY are a bunch of celebrities telling me to do? Must I renounce my beliefs and support for people I think need it? I think they need to clarify what this transphobia is, I want them to REALLY spell it out so I am certain.

If the beliefs I hold and my support for women and gay people is wrong I want them to tell me exactly why that is. This vague, nebulous idea of transphobia they speak of without clarification isn't going to cut it I'm afraid. Not after seeing what is now classed as transphobia on social media (usually having an opposing opinion).

MrsNoah2020 · 31/03/2020 19:40

Anyone remember Brass Eye 'Cake'?

My first thought too Grin

Over all, I think this video's cast is great news - no one but the usual suspects. A couple of years ago, there would have been lots more celebs eager to tart themselves out display their woke credentials on this. Now, even though not many are speaking up for GC women, there are a lot fewer voices mindlessly amplifying TRAs.

DidoLamenting · 31/03/2020 22:46

Are those people famous? Most of them I've never heard of.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 01/04/2020 09:48

What a load of guff. I don't care if those slebs (term used very loosely) have a friend who gets the sads if they're told no. The world doesn't revolve around their wants and whims. Women matter.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 01/04/2020 10:16

Well, it's nice that celebs are keeping busy. Not sure why anyone is meant to give a shit what they think about serious issues though.

That was always the case but really, in the middle of a pandemic, unless their point is that they've discovered that being trans makes you somehow more vulnerable to coronavirus then it just doesn't matter and most people aren't going to care. Go back to posting selfies by your pools, celebs, or donate money to help those in need. Nobody is interested in your deep inner thoughts at the present.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 01/04/2020 10:21

Bowie looked like a woman and this blew seven year old Jeremy Vine's mind.

He didn't, though, he looked like a man in makeup and flamboyant clothes. Which was frankly a lot more interesting and potentially revolutionary than insisting that anyone in makeup and flamboyant clothes is a woman. If someone is unable to wrap their head around the idea that men can look like that then that's unfortunate for them, but no reason that they should be allowed to condemn the rest of the world to a similarly dull life.

ThinEndoftheWedge · 01/04/2020 10:38

Has Jeremy Vine not studied history? E.g Georgian men in England - wigs, makeup, heeled shoes, lace and pretty colours etc.

The era when the term handsome was used for women!

This is NOT new.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 01/04/2020 10:40

Also the video is nearly 50 minutes long? Dear fucking god, I know most people are stuck at home but surely they'd still give up and go watch cat videos on YouTube after the first 5 minutes or so.

ginghamstarfish · 01/04/2020 11:00

Just seeing that list of names made me really NOT want to see any video or read any further ....

Lordfrontpaw · 01/04/2020 11:11

I suspect the charity relies on kids in their bedrooms on the internet, and foolish businesses and companies doing fundraisers.

Charities won't be getting quite so much money just now so they are just ramping up the victim staus and, as usual, making any news all about them.

Not about people dying alone at home/in hospitals, people (mostly women) murdered as a result of being locked in/not being able to escape their abuser, families not being able to feed themselves/their kids, peoples businesses going bust, people losing their jobs... No compassion for anyone else.

Oliversmumsarmy · 01/04/2020 15:17

When did Bowie ever look like a woman?

When does any man look like a woman.

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 01/04/2020 15:26

Bowie only looked like a woman if you think a woman is someone who wears make up and glitter.
The whole trans movement is made up of nothing other than gender stereotyping. The moment you see that, it can't be unseen

BovaryX · 01/04/2020 15:45

Exactly.

He wore a dress on the cover of The Man who Sold the World and he wore makeup frequently. His inventive cabaret of stage personas were an important aspect of his creativity. But Bowie always looked like Bowie. These clowns seem to think wearing a dress has some magical transformative quality. The stupidity is hard to fathom.
