Johnaton Ross has tweeted about Grahame:

I struggle to understand the opinions of intelligent men I previously admired - Jon Ronson and Billy Bragg - that strike me as tragically ill-informed and depressingly self-aggrandising. I know you are paying a heavy price for this G, but I admire and applaud you.

Finally. Bet poor Glinner has been so pissed off surrounded by people who no doubt agree with him but who are too scared to come out and say so.

I am usually loathe to get into all this on FWR, because it's not really my focus here, but I confess I saw it and was just so bloody relieved to see a well known name actually criticising those men who have been so woefully disappointing in recent months and weeks. I hope he does not recant in sack cloth and ashes. I suspect we may be far enough along the track that he won't.

However, I'll pre-empt, cos I know the Russell Brand dickery will be brought up, and I will just underline here that I am pleased because Ross is critical of other men's behaviour here. It says nothing about my other opinions.

May the relief/bunfight commence.

LadyQuarantinaPluckington

No idea about the Russel Brand stuff Blush

Anyway it's good that he has publicly come out in support of Glinner and has talked about Bragg and Ronson.

Wow I just scrolled through screens and screens of responses and they're all applauding him.

I guess the TRAs haven't sent out the (baseball) bat signal yet but still, this is heartening.

Am glad Glinner has got someone with celeb power backing him up finally.

allmywhat · 18/03/2020 00:51

Does anyone else get the sense that Ronson's position on this issue is a lot about the porn performers he made friends with, like he finally got a seat at the cool kids table and now he's just a bit too eager to fit in? I have the impression that all the up close and personal porn experience messed with his objectivity and with his usual ability to embrace being an outsider. I used to really like him. :/

There is some heinous shit on the timelines of these porn dudes that he seems to admire.

Scrapper142 · 18/03/2020 01:03

I'm hopeful he'll hold firm and there won't be a vague apology.

He has a public-figure wife and two daughters, one of whom is a lesbian. I can't imagine he'd tweet this without being inspired from the women in his life.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 18/03/2020 01:06

Good
I hope more & more are going to speak up

I find it interesting that he has named names rather than issues - very clearly shows his position whilst not actually stating it!

Lynda07 · 18/03/2020 01:18

Who is Glinner?

I've now looked him up, he's Graham Linehan, Irish comedian and broadcaster.

Good for Jonathan Ross.

Lowhum · 18/03/2020 05:51

I’m not on Twitter so I can’t view Glinner’s tweet that he replied to. What does it say?

zanahoria · 18/03/2020 07:15

A very nicely written message from someone sho has always been pro Gay rights, lets hope we get a few more, either from Jonathan or others wanting to speak up.

Helmetbymidnight · 18/03/2020 07:29

thats good that is.

Lordfrontpaw · 18/03/2020 07:30

Kick Ass indeed!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 18/03/2020 07:32

That's a great tweet - spot on about Bragg and Ronson.

TitianaTitsling · 18/03/2020 07:33

Brilliant!

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 18/03/2020 07:35

Good news

Helmetbymidnight · 18/03/2020 08:01

graham had tweeted this: 'Discovered another male celebrity mate trying to put pressure on people close to me to shut me up. It's a fucking laugh, standing up for women, I tell you whut.'

i am soo interested in the types of people who get caught up in this. jon ronson and billy bragg come across as well-meaning, nice, liberal, and sympathetic to 'the underdog' - it feels like they have an absolute block or 'thing' when it comes to women and girls though- is it simple misogyny or 'othering' i dunno.

goldenorbspider · 18/03/2020 08:05

I really hope he doesn't back track

DickKerrLadies · 18/03/2020 08:06

There's definitely a degree of 'othering' - women are not-men, men who are willing to chop their cock off* are not-men, therefore they totally belong in the same category.

Helmetbymidnight · 18/03/2020 08:08

he wont backtrack- thats the tweet of someone who knows what hes saying - and acknowledging what glinners gone through shows hes aware of the stakes.

Mockerswithnoknockers · 18/03/2020 08:11

Ross maybe learnt his lesson from his association with Russell Brand and the abuse of Andrew Sach bless his soul.
