Johnaton Ross has tweeted about Grahame:

I struggle to understand the opinions of intelligent men I previously admired - Jon Ronson and Billy Bragg - that strike me as tragically ill-informed and depressingly self-aggrandising. I know you are paying a heavy price for this G, but I admire and applaud you.

@zanahoria

LOJ really is perma victim little twit

He must think people are stupid/illiterate/blind and cannot see what he's doing.

zanahoria · 18/03/2020 16:40

privileged little shit who writes for the guardian but claims his voice isn't being heard

pachyderm · 18/03/2020 17:30

"besieged, marginalised and oppressed minorities" that are sponsored by every corporate behemoth you can think of and all mainstream political parties.

SisyphusLangClegRocks · 18/03/2020 18:04

Stay strong mate!

completely marginalised

Datun · 18/03/2020 18:23

The public is waking up to all the empty, zero evidenced arguments - suicide rates, marginalised, most harassed, etc.

When you're claiming to be a besieged, oppressed minority actually on a twitter thread where you have managed to deprive the subject of much of his livelihood, purely for speaking out, people can see the deception.

LadyQuarantinaPluckington · 18/03/2020 18:28

Wossy looking like he is standing very firm indeed, and most definitely from the FWR perspective - no animosity towards genuine trans human rights, but insisting that women's rights are not to be rolled back.

That's cheered me up.

And yes, yet again, I remember that there is only one LOJ and I have the great blessing of not being him. Praise the Goddess.

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 18/03/2020 18:35

Tbh, I think those articles are great. There are going to be a lot of non-Twitter people reading them and thinking "Really? Jonathan Ross is transphobic now? But he didn't even say anything. Hmm"
For many of us, this started with a sense of unease and realising that something didn't add up. I'll bet there are a lot of Metro readers having that moment.

zanahoria · 18/03/2020 18:40

If OJ is so convinced about all this why has he stopped writing about in the Guardian?

ThinEndoftheWedge · 18/03/2020 18:45

Anyone old enough to remember ‘The Upper Hand’?

Nice one.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 18/03/2020 18:47

To be fair he should have resigned from the disgustingly transphobic Guardian ages ago, if he wanted to support his trans siblings.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 18/03/2020 18:48

Tbh, I think those articles are great.

Yes. They're their own worst enemy. And of course it's all clickbait for the paper.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 18/03/2020 18:59

Joe McGann has been tweeting GC for long while 👍

Floisme · 18/03/2020 19:08

I did wonder why Zoe Williams got the gig of writing the first post-Suzanne Moore piece (ok not an official right of reply but might as well have been) and not OJ.

SisyphusLangClegRocks · 18/03/2020 19:19

Great to see Joe stepping up too

Back in the 80s (maybe early 90s) Jonathan Ross features a transwoman (or transsexual as she would have called herself back then) on his chat show (possibly The Last Resort). If I remember rightly- and please if anyone else remembers can you say- he was decent and respectful towards her (well as much as he was to anyone) but I don’t remember him treating her like a freak and was sympathetic to her and her boyfriend. I doubt very much he’s actually transphobic.

It’s all lost in the mist of time so I may be wrong but I seem to remember he was very supportive.

Talk about slim pickings for talent there...third alternative was a cranky toddler with crayons, and who would have noticed the difference?

zanahoria · 18/03/2020 21:49

OJ's first effort was absurdly pompous, I am guessing someone at the Guardian twigged that a bloke telling women they are on the wrong side of history was not a good look. Deep down even OJ knows it was a failure, the tone was a rallying cry, he obviously expected new recruits to the cause and it is obvious they did not come. Since then he has gone back to preaching to the converted on twitter.

GrimDamnFanjo · 19/03/2020 01:26

I'm fairly sure one of Jonathan's daughters is a lesbian? I think I remember him talking about when she came out.
Thank you for speaking up!

bettybeans · 19/03/2020 02:00

It's not just that he pinned his colours to the mast, he also quite comfortably took a solid swipe at two other big(ish) names too. That's not the actions of a person who hasn't been giving things a lot of thought, or who hasn't been paying attention.

From what I understand (or think I know!) about the Ross family they're pretty open-minded and progressive. This is a great turn of events and I'm especially thrilled for Graham Linehan. About time he got some damn support.

R0wantrees · 19/03/2020 09:52

The gay women? - well, one campaigned for trans on all women shortlists and if you try to discuss with her pulls out all the insults, won't listen, then says we need 'less heat more light' can't understand why women are upset about men in jail - 'would we feel the same about lesbians'?etc, etc. One posts constantly about Trans people being bullied or suicidal - she seemed surprised I was not keen on men in sports and asked if I thought 'segregation' should begin at infants, I said no, and she disappeared.

She is repeating propaganda.
TRAs target lesbians' empathy.

Helen Belcher (Trans Media Watch & LIbDems) on meeting Martina Navratilova for BBC documentary, 'The Trans Women Athlete Dispute' :
(extract)
"So I asked her what the media’s understanding of lesbian issues was when she came out in 1981. She said something like “awful” or “abysmal”. And she immediately got the parallels.

The point being that the media landscape for trans people in the UK, and increasingly in some other countries, has been absolutely awful for a couple of years now, and the level of understanding displayed is minimal. It was into that situation, where absolutists were making very combative comments meaning that the response had to be equally black-and-white, that her comments about trans inclusion landed.

And this was where the money shot happened, as she fought back the tears. She didn’t want to be seen as an ally of all these awful viewpoints, she’d fought hard for LGBT rights for many, many years, she acknowledged that it was very hard for trans people and she was worried that she’d made things worse. I suspect this is the bit that will be broadcast.

We ended up on some common ground. My view is that hard-and-fast rules will take some time to be found, if they can be found at all, as I suspect there will always be cases that need to be examined on an individual basis. This will need clear principles to be defined, which then means we need to understand what fairness, in terms of competitive and elite sport, actually is." (continues)

The trans juggernaut has become so extreme and so hostile to any debate; to anything other than total compliance that it is now unsustainable....it must surely collapse in a pile of its own contradictions sooner rather than later. You cannot brow-beat or terrorise people into believing in something that runs against measured reality. And if you could get your way under such circumstances conditions, what sort of victory would that be? What would it look like?

Horseradishfemish · 19/03/2020 12:32

.. What would it look like?

It would look like transgression to me.
