Just saw this on Twitter - unbelievable. I am heartened though by the many responses to this on Twitter, most of whom are also in disbelief.

Sexnotgender · 28/02/2020 07:58

Fucking imbeciles. Honestly, doesn’t align with their values?

Women meeting to discuss women’s rights in a women’s library? What exactly does align with their values then?

Verily1 · 28/02/2020 08:01

They’ve been like this for over a decade.

It isn’t a women’s library and hasn’t been fit a number of years.

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 28/02/2020 08:29

And they had the cheek to follow the announcement up by being for money!

Which has gone down in a fireball of scorn.

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 28/02/2020 08:30

Sorry *begging for money. Must proof read!

MadamePewter · 28/02/2020 08:31

It’s unbelievable. I too was shocked by the subsequent plea for funding but pleased by the responses.

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 28/02/2020 08:36

Cynically, I'd say it demonstrates that they aren't reliant on donations (I think it is only about 1%). Mostly Gov and things like Big Lottery who they probably think will back them. However, will the government really want such a blatant example of how Equality Act is being broken in an operation they fund at a time when they trying to pretend EA won't be affected? Be interesting to find out!

littlbrowndog · 28/02/2020 08:38

What are there values ?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 28/02/2020 08:39

Glasgow Good Little Girls Library.

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 28/02/2020 08:41

I find this decision really irrational.
Their collection has a heavy bias towards the second wave and radical feminist heritage. What are they saying here? Agitation for womens space was fine in the 70's but unacceptable now?!

littlbrowndog · 28/02/2020 08:42

But what happens in a library for women where women aren’t allowed to meet 🤷‍♀️

To talk about a government consultation

Is Scotland now Canada ?

Aesopfable · 28/02/2020 08:43

Of course EHRC will now step in and take them to court for sex discrimination under the Equality Act just as they are paid to do.....

.......

......

Tumbleweed....

littlbrowndog · 28/02/2020 08:48

From Twitter. Seems the library let this group speak about the consultation

This is what you've enabled. Two men speakers and Out 4 Indy hosted to push the GRA reform. Women meeting to discuss their rights not accepted. Safe space for the men and 'no bigotry or causing offence allowed' for uppity women. Hope you're proud. @NicolaSturgeon @SASomerville

Speaking as someone who is pretty clueless when it comes to the law - would Maya winning her appeal make it more difficult for libraries and other venues to do this? If what Maya is saying is given "protected belief" status does that mean it could count as illegal discrimination to ban people/organisations for having that belief?

NotBadConsidering · 28/02/2020 08:54

I think this sums it up well:

CadburysTastesVileNow · 28/02/2020 08:56

I suspect that any grant money and government funding the library receive is predicated on it complying with the Equality Act.

Thinkingabout1t · 28/02/2020 09:07

That phrase International best practice is standard trans-rights jargon. Like most of their propaganda it isn’t true. But lazy bureaucrats don’t bother to check, they just parrot the script they’ve been given by lobby groups who frighten them.

littlbrowndog · 28/02/2020 09:08

And then we have this in Scotland

Fantastic news! @FionaHyslop has today written to the Convener of @SP_European Committee to confirm that Scotland's 2021 census WILL ask a sex question with guidance that notes respondents should answer the question in line with how they live! #Census #Sex #Scotland (1/3)

Lordfrontpaw · 28/02/2020 09:09

And they’ve got the begging bowl out for donations to keep running. Ha a ha a ha. Comments under the tweet are gold!

Thinkingabout1t · 28/02/2020 09:11

Notbad, i love that graphic of “non-men” bowing to a penis, thanks for posting!

MadamePewter · 28/02/2020 09:14

My favourite is “away and raffle your doughnut” comment

Lordfrontpaw · 28/02/2020 09:14

Are they funded by gvt or council, charities, lottery...?

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 28/02/2020 09:14

“Is this because most of the funding comes with the condition that the library is "inclusive"?”
FWS ”Not according to the minister who apparently thinks we can invoke the exception. So they are on shaky ground.”

TorkTorkBam · 28/02/2020 09:28

I do not live in Glagow. Is it really a women's library or is it actually one of those MRA set ups, you know like those Christian women's groups set up by men to encourage women to discuss better ways to be obedient wives.

Doyoumind · 28/02/2020 09:29

I also just saw this on Twitter. Unbelievable. I really do despair.
