Well, not branded as story hour, but the drag queen is reading a story to primary school children... Brought in by an MP (Mhairi Black)

“Thank you to Flow and @MhairiBlack for sharing their experiences with us today. It was really important to hear about Section 28 and the negative effect it had. Thankfully now we teach #LGBTEducation proudly at @Glencoats_PS #LGBTQProud @LGBTYS @LGBTHistoryScot

“drag queens were a “fun and energetic” way to challenge gender stereotypes”
Hmm surely drag is all about reinforcing stereotypes?

nauticant · 24/02/2020 15:57

The Scotman article is maintaining a veil of propriety by not stating in its article the full name of the drag act. By doing this they're deliberately omitting a fact that is significant in understanding what's happened. FFS.

User721 · 24/02/2020 15:59

Mhairi
Drag queen
Flowjob are all trending on twitter

Devlesko · 24/02/2020 15:59

It shows an absolute disregard for safeguarding and dreadful judgement by the Head, teachers and that Silly Black creature. They all need hailing over the coals.

In what respect? I'm sure their enhanced disclosure was checked the same as any other person going into school.

i suppose if it is programmed for your own schools you can keep them off, take them out, or h.ed them yourselves like many others do who don't like the system.

Renfrewshire Council has said it 'would not have invited the artist had it been aware of sexually explicit images shared on the performer’s social media profiles.'

I'd have thought basic background checks are fairly important when inviting adults into schools to talk to 5 year olds about sex and gender identity.

What do you want kids?
We want a filthy drag act!

There are people who actually believe that kids think like that.

"Renfrewshire Council said today it would not have invited the artist, who visited Glencoats Primary in Paisley last week, had it been aware of sexually explicit images shared on the performer’s social media profiles."

So is/was the actual invitation issued by the Council rather than by the school? Is the (SNP-run) council taking responsibility for what happened here?

SamSeabornforPresident · 24/02/2020 16:13

The council will be speaking on behalf of the school as council employees are not permitted to talk to the media without prior permission. And I imagine they're keeping the HT in question as far away from the media as humanly possible.

From my experience in (secondary) schools, inviting guests in is generally the responsibility of the school. The teacher would run it by the HT but I'd be surprised if the majority of guests were known about by the authority. At best the HT or teacher in question were stupendously naive for not checking the social media profiles of their invited guests.

The Scotman article is maintaining a veil of propriety by not stating in its article the full name of the drag act. By doing this they're deliberately omitting a fact that is significant in understanding what's happened. FFS.

In the twitter link preview it mentions 'Flowjob' twice.

jadefinch · 24/02/2020 16:15

The Herald's write up about it seems to have been written by someone who hasn't been able to follow the story at all and thought it best just two copy and paste Mhairi's tweets

Newuser123123 · 24/02/2020 16:16

Well done everyone who complained and brought light to this x

definitelygc · 24/02/2020 16:16

"The kids requested a drag queen" oh FFS! Drag acts are heavily associated with sex, swearing, drinking and drugs. As far as I can tell RuPaul's Drag Race is rated a 15 so where are these 8-11 year old kids learning about drag queens?

Violetparis · 24/02/2020 16:28

The innocent faces of those little kids in amongst all the sexual images posted by Flowjob is just so wrong. I'd be so upset if one of them was my child.

nauticant · 24/02/2020 16:32

Thanks for the clarification OvaHere.

Meanwhile Frankie Boyle enters the fray:

His followers seem to think Flowjob in a primary school is a good thing.

jadefinch · 24/02/2020 16:33

Depressingly, The Sun's write up on this is much better

As is The Star's:

TheChampagneGalop · 24/02/2020 16:40

No one would think a Chippendales story hour would be a good idea. Why drag? Is it suddenly ok to expose children to adult male sexuality if the man wears a dress?

God I’m so bored of the lazy arguments that go “ooooh pantomime” or “oooh 40 years ago on the telly”

40 years ago drag on tv looked this. I mean ffs the difference between that, a pantomime dame and flow job is head banging against the wall obvious

Lordfrontpaw · 24/02/2020 16:42

Devlesko - photos of the kids - faces clear - were out up on the school and the acts social media for starters. The act doesn’t do anything illegal, or I assume have a police record do a DRB would come up fine, but it doesn’t make them suitable to present to small kids.

jadefinch · 24/02/2020 16:49

Frankie Boyle's comments are incredibly stupid.

40 years ago we had Jimmy Savile on TV, Cyril Smith in parliament and PIE was an actual movement.

And yet, with all that child abuse going on behind the scenes, we never had acts who simulate oral sex performing to 5 year olds and 'teaching' them about sex and gender identity.

His inability to detect how inappropriate this is suggests he shouldn't be allowed to work with children - and shouldn't be on TV presenting programmes that children might watch.

definitelygc · 24/02/2020 16:58

If Frankie Boyle can't tell the difference between Lily Savage and Flow Job, who posts pictures of himself simulating oral sex / anal sex and talking about getting "on the gear", then he really has lost the plot.

Grafittiqueen · 24/02/2020 17:03

If my kids were in that picture on Flowjob's instagram account I would be absolutely furious.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 24/02/2020 17:08

Who says a pornographic drag act is representative of the gay/lesbian/bisexual community? It's an insult. Brave people fought hard, for years, to teach society that there was nothing beyond the pale about having a sexuality other than straight. And now all that work is pissed up against the wall for 'fun'.

Choking, dildo-sucking, explicit porn is utterly unacceptable for someone who posts about working with children.

Posting photographs of the kids, without permission or parental knowledge, on said social media accounts, alongside all the utterly inappropriate pictures is beyond unacceptable.

Mhairi Black's condescending dismissal of safeguarding is unacceptable.

Mhairi Black's insulting parents who complain is unacceptable.

I can handle this sneery, intellectually slobbing from a two-bit comedian. From an elected politician? Outrageous.

Is it possible to make a complaint about an MP if they're not your MP?
.

BringbackLang · 24/02/2020 17:14

Mhairi such maturity over the issue I see Hmm. She's far too immature and easily swayed to be an MP. The fact that her, Little OJ and Frankie are defending this as acceptable is and think it's okay suggests to me that they believe children are mini adults and should be treated as such and have no comprehension whatsoever with regards to children's need and what is appropriate for them.

I saw there was a comment from a parent saying that whole they didn't mind theIr child learning about Lgbt they thought it was overkill that something was happening every week/month (can't remember the exact wording) which I thought was interesting.

This kind of suggests to me that people are beginning to reach saturation point with regards to anything Lgbt. What started out as something good has become tedious and forced. Which is a huge shame.

SauceForTheGander · 24/02/2020 17:16

I'm sick of the "oh no you better not go to panto if you're so worried about a man in a dress" (spoiler FlowJob doesn't think he's a man in a dress).

It's not pantomime dames being invited in to schools, it's drag acts. Besides panto dames are dreary as crap with one joke predicated on women being gross - so I wouldn't want them in school either.

Frankie Boyle is full of shit.

The Instagram feed doesn't have to be SEEN by children for it to be inappropriate. The fact this person thinks that's an OK way to behave online and has that kind of career and online presence isn't someone who should be invited into a school in the character they play. Dear god - that account took me 3 mins to find last night - the school are bloody useless.
