Well, not branded as story hour, but the drag queen is reading a story to primary school children... Brought in by an MP (Mhairi Black)

“Thank you to Flow and @MhairiBlack for sharing their experiences with us today. It was really important to hear about Section 28 and the negative effect it had. Thankfully now we teach #LGBTEducation proudly at @Glencoats_PS #LGBTQProud @LGBTYS @LGBTHistoryScot

It does seem like they are dead set on creating a backlash of parents who will want to ban the topic.

SunsetBeetch · 24/02/2020 20:27

Ah here we go. Tweets about punching a woman. Lovely person, very child friendly.

Drag Queen Story Hour in Scottish Primary School
Lordfrontpaw · 24/02/2020 20:30

Why is it vital to show children trans/drag queens under the flag of ‘some people are different’? You can’t exactly miss trans/drag on tv (drag race ads allmiver the place) tv and press ads, trans people ad retiring shampoo... it’s not as if gender is an unspoken thing. So why push so hard to have it right in children’s lives on a weekly basis? Why not get people with disabilities into the schools - so the kids learn that some people have one leg - learn not to stare or be rude. Some people are blind - learn how to help them. Some people are dead - learn how to speak to them clearly and a few words in sign...

LizA49 · 24/02/2020 20:34

@Goosefoot
But TBH I wish they'd think a little more about teaching them reading and math. I am tutoring an 11 year old at the moment that doesn't know how to borrow when subtracting, or even that you need to because you can't subtract two from one. And he is a bright boy really. They spend half their time in flipping assemblies to talk about social issues.

Oh my goodness, me too! 11 yo and she can’t do basic subtraction or division! I never thought I’d have to tutor one of my own at this level. School constantly banging on about cyber bullying when the teacher can’t even spot when it’s happening under her own nose.

sorry for the derail, will go back to lurking and nodding silently in agreement

LynnSchmob · 24/02/2020 20:42

Scottish educational standards have plummeted under the SNP

Clearly that’s not important though. Much more important to get a drag queen in to read the kiddie winks stories instead.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 24/02/2020 20:59

Mhairi's really getting her arse handed to her over this, isn't she? Apparently the "that's homophobic" shield isn't working as well as it used to.

This consistent refusal to engage with anyone who's concerned that maybe some things that are happening might be a problem is making the people doing it look like dangerous nutbags. Have they not noticed yet that the public isn't having it? Because the "not having it" is only getting stronger over time.

OvaHere · 24/02/2020 21:00

That chart is quite eye opening. I wonder once schools have agreed to the basic level how much pressure they are under to move up the levels.

Does this come out of school budgets or is it free to the school with LGBTYS being funding externally through grants etc...

OvaHere · 24/02/2020 21:00

Sorry that post was aimed at @Languishingfemale the thread moved on quickly Grin

jadefinch · 24/02/2020 21:08

Not only did he openly fantasise about attacking women but it looks like he was the guy a woman in Edinburgh was thrown out of a club for complaining about being in the women's toilets of a month or so ago.

You just know that Mhairi Black, Frankie Boyle and Owen Jones are never going to apologise for defending this, and the BBC and SNP will let them all get away with it

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 24/02/2020 21:10

So we're inviting people who talk about how much they'd like women to get punched to primary schools now? So woke, much progressive.

CallofDoodee · 24/02/2020 21:11

Well that STV thread is quite an eye opener isn't it? A tweet about punching a woman in the face and one about getting a woman thrown out of a club because she objected to a male in the toilets, referring to her as 'hen' (which according to BFF Mhairi is misogynistic according to her twitter feed - although I guess like all this stuff, being LGBT probably let's you off the hook for everything, so when Flowjob says it, it's not misogyny).

Languishingfemale · 24/02/2020 21:12

OvaHere
When I've been involved in charter marks (in schools and local authorities) if senior leaders rate it and the publicity is good then there's a pressure to move up the grades. Presumably if you can get your local MP popping in with their friends plus publicity, that must a nice bit of attention for a pressurised headteacher?
As for cost I have no idea whether the school pays or not.

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/02/2020 21:13

I hope the safeguarding lead in thar school is given some bloody tough questions by the parents.

A few have now posted on Flowjob's Instagram

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/02/2020 21:22

As for cost I have no idea whether the school pays or not.

I recently discovered it's possible for some of the lgbt things to be funded via the nhs. For example, there would be a pot of money that could be allocated to mental health that a commissioning role Gp could use to buy in certain support programmes, and this includes any input from eg stonewall etc. They fund autism courses such as Early bird for example, and I'd expect certain OT programmes and SALT.

Other routes could include the local council; Newcastle council funded No Outsiders training to a number of primary schools as a part of a wider diversity drive across the city.

Some areas of the country have "trusts" which are clusters of schools who somehow qualify for charity status if they join the trust. They access funding raised by various huge businesses and universities but must include a couple of reps from these places on their governors. Trusts can make a decision to fund certain initiatives such as quality marks, if deemed appropriate. In my area so far it's been things like UNICEF rights respecting schools, an eco Mark thing and the arts mark.

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/02/2020 21:25

The thing is you generally have to fund attendance of the actual training, and then and potential support for the process and evidence gathering. It can add up for schools, as well as the extra time devoted to it all, so there needs to be motivation to actually do it

CallofDoodee · 24/02/2020 21:26

Yes, one parent has posted on both Twitter and on Flowjob's Instagram that they didn't know about this visit and that they hadn't consented for their child's picture to feature on the Instagram page.

I think about the reams and reams of paperwork we do in our school around photos now, and what a minefield it is, sometimes even for a schools own private twitter.

This is a huge safeguarding fail on the part of the school. I just don't get how it could happen in this day and age to be honest!

Pancakestastelikecrepe · 24/02/2020 21:26

What is startling to me is how provincial Black is. Whilst she may think she's very worldly, she's a very young woman with a very myopic view of the world. What also strikes me is her GTA reference. GC feminists are often cited as 'pearl clutching, white, middle class and privileged'. GTA is a rather classist reference - synonymous with the underclass who park their children in front of a console. I think she lives in a bubble and has no understanding of cultural capital whatsoever

Lordfrontpaw · 24/02/2020 21:28

She sounds like an arsey 14 year old MC kid trying to sound though and worldly wise.

I await the ‘I know you are but what am I? defence .

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/02/2020 21:29

I know a Gp friend who had discussed commissioning some LGBT input into local schools to try to support high recorded numbers of Gp visits around anxiety linked to sexual and gender identity.

The routes in are very varied.

Pancakestastelikecrepe · 24/02/2020 21:30

@Lord

Pancakestastelikecrepe · 24/02/2020 21:33

Oops! Exactly @lord! Just how experienced is Black? What is her knowledge of what is appropriate and not? She's like an angry 6th former with a platform who keeps on keeping on with what she believes is right with no life experience

Siameasy · 24/02/2020 21:35

Why on Earth are these MPs let loose on Twitter - and they ignore any replies that disagree with them, even if it’s the majority (“haters”). So many of them need to be put on the naughty step

HaindmaidsWail · 24/02/2020 21:35

If pictures of the children have been published without consent this is a GDPR breach as well as a safeguarding failing isn't it? Wouldn't be covered under the 'household' exemption. There is "nothing under the GDPR prohibiting people from taking photos in a public place. Provided you’re not harassing anyone, taking photographs of people in public is generally allowed. However, whether you can publish a photograph to a broad-based audience is a different question. In other words, taking a photo in public is generally fine; it’s what you do with that photo that can potentially become a data protection issue."

AnneOfTeenFables · 24/02/2020 21:43

I was going to say I think MB has overstepped this time ... but I thought that when she called women 'Jeremy Hunts'. I can't quite believe she thinks baselessly insulting parents is how an elected representative should act.

If MB isn't disciplined or apologises, I'm done with the SNP. We should have an equivalent of the expel me hashtag that Labour members used.
