Well, not branded as story hour, but the drag queen is reading a story to primary school children... Brought in by an MP (Mhairi Black)

“Thank you to Flow and @MhairiBlack for sharing their experiences with us today. It was really important to hear about Section 28 and the negative effect it had. Thankfully now we teach #LGBTEducation proudly at @Glencoats_PS #LGBTQProud @LGBTYS @LGBTHistoryScot

No one not no one is above safeguarding.

Not even sacred castes

littlbrowndog · 24/02/2020 19:06

Yeah madam I seen a lot of gay and lesbian people on twitter saying that is a lazy and demeaning stereotype

SunsetBeetch · 24/02/2020 19:19

Ohhhhhhh

"Mhairi Black and FlowJob are evidently old pals. Here they are last spring with Lorraine Cameron, the Provost of Renfrewshire. t.co/7XrJDrYsn1 "

www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2020/02/24/snp-mp-defends-primary-school-visit-sexually-explicit-drag-act/

I wonder if all this will end up included in a parliamentary debate at some point?

And would a politician be brave enough to query it??

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/02/2020 19:22

Oooooh sunset.

I see now.

Lordfrontpaw · 24/02/2020 19:23

She (MP) comes over as very immature and pretty anti woman. Most people grow out of their ‘fabulous!’ clubbing friends. She obviously hasn’t and isn’t mature enough to me an MP - sounds like she has an agenda anyway.

Goosefoot · 24/02/2020 19:26

This kind of suggests to me that people are beginning to reach saturation point with regards to anything Lgbt. What started out as something good has become tedious and forced. Which is a huge shame.

The whole thing is weird. It's constant in the school, guest speakers, clubs, books in the library, special videos, etc. Race might just about be talked about in a similar way, but not sex, or religion, or disability.

But TBH I wish they'd think a little more about teaching them reading and math. I am tutoring an 11 year old at the moment that doesn't know how to borrow when subtracting, or even that you need to because you can't subtract two from one. And he is a bright boy really. They spend half their time in flipping assemblies to talk about social issues.

HermioneWeasley · 24/02/2020 19:29

Story now picked up the the Times and the Telegraph.

Worryingly people on twitter are saying the drag queen has showed photos of the event with childrens faces visible, on his instagram

Absolutepowercorrupts · 24/02/2020 19:30

A screenshot from Mhairi Black's Twitter feed.

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 24/02/2020 19:34

This is mortifying.

I can't believe they did this in a school. There should be sackings.

Drag is bitchy, subversive and image obsessed. In an era where children are already obsessed with their appearance and bullying is rife we shouldn't be holding drag queens up as something to aspire to.

This is the epitome of attempting to look 'woke'. Kids don't belong around drag.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 24/02/2020 19:35

That's it, SNP. You'll get no more votes from this floating voter, when people like Mhairi Black get away with this absolute nonsense.

And yes, Hermione, the pictures of the kids are still there.

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/02/2020 19:44

So the drag queen is now the victim?

I don't condone abuse and homophobia but I do stand for appropriateness and safeguarding.

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/02/2020 19:44

(From the stv news clip interview)

SamSeabornforPresident · 24/02/2020 19:45

I did wonder about that STV headline too.

testing987654321 · 24/02/2020 19:53

As far as I can tell RuPaul's Drag Race is rated a 15 so where are these 8-11 year old kids learning about drag queens?

Year 7s watch Love Island, I don't think it should be on TV at all, let alone 11-12 year olds watching it. I am sure Drag Race seems harmless to most parents. Not having seen it I would expect it to just be dress up and prance about.

SunsetBeetch · 24/02/2020 19:54

This was Flowjob's response to the woman who was thrown out of the Polo Lounge In Glasgow.

I don't hold the DQ responsible. Not their job to understand safeguarding. But the people doing the inviting need to understand it. And the fact that no one has explained to the DQ that it's absolutely unacceptable to upload photos of children to an open insta account is appalling.

I hope the safeguarding lead in thar school is given some bloody tough questions by the parents.

Siameasy · 24/02/2020 20:03

Ah was just about to post that Sunset. The more exposure on this individual the better. Nasty piece of work!

Get this arsehole and others like him out of schools.

Lordfrontpaw · 24/02/2020 20:07

And such an eloquent person to do a reading the les enfants Confused.

Goosefoot · 24/02/2020 20:13

Also, what is this 'Rainbow Club'?

I've always understood it to be for kids who see themselves as part of the LBGQT+ community. I have never quite figured out having them in primary schools.

Lordfrontpaw · 24/02/2020 20:15

I wonder I wonder I wonder...

Mummyoflittledragon · 24/02/2020 20:18

In what way is commenting the inappropriateness of a trans drag queen to “perform” in schools homophobic? Homo = the same. According to their definitions, you cannot be both trans and homosexual unless that means you’re attracted to women.

Languishingfemale · 24/02/2020 20:20

Presumably it's for 4 - 11 year olds in primary schools with an 'interest' in LGBT issues. This link gives a sense of how primary schools can get their 'charter mark'.
blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/re/public/glencoatsprimary/uploads/sites/2371/2019/10/LGBT-Schools-Charter-Standards-e-use-003.pdf

I keep posting this links as having worked in schools for years I am incredulous that any school would devote so much time, £££ and effort to one issue - unless of course they spend equal amounts of time and money educating their children in sexism, racism, disability rights, SEN discrimination and all the other protected characteristics. I suppose this is what they call 'queering the primary curriculum'.

TorkTorkBam · 24/02/2020 20:22

I know a lot of gay people. None of them come to work dressed up like that.
