Well, not branded as story hour, but the drag queen is reading a story to primary school children... Brought in by an MP (Mhairi Black)

“Thank you to Flow and @MhairiBlack for sharing their experiences with us today. It was really important to hear about Section 28 and the negative effect it had. Thankfully now we teach #LGBTEducation proudly at @Glencoats_PS #LGBTQProud @LGBTYS @LGBTHistoryScot

Oh, so being called homophobic by Black was in fact incorrect?

Lordfrontpaw · 24/02/2020 18:06

I saw someone say that they are a she. So it’s not drag then - a woman doesn’t drag up as a woman surely. God they are like pretzels...

Tombakersscarf · 24/02/2020 18:09

@SauceForTheGander they did invite their MP in - that's Mhairi Black's area. They just added a drag queen in for extra credit.

SauceForTheGander · 24/02/2020 18:12

Those condoning it seem to be young/immature and/or childless.

or pricks like Frankie Boyle.

Also seen a few cool mums terrified of being lumped with boring Mums speaking out for their children and boring things like safeguarding and not posting pictures of kids in their school uniforms on Instagram feeds with gimpy looking photos.

Lordfrontpaw · 24/02/2020 18:16

Boyle is just shit stirring. It wouldn’t be much fun for him to go on the other side and having the tantrums coming his way.

SauceForTheGander · 24/02/2020 18:20

@Tombakersscarf Black isn't their MP - it's Gavin Newland constituency so if he wasn't consulted then that could be another issue for MB and SNP protocol.

But yes, they invited a lesbian MP.. What I meant was it would make sense inviting someone who had grown up gay / lesbian in Thatcher period. I think that would have been a really useful and important class talk.

CallofDoodee · 24/02/2020 18:21

Yy to the woeful reaching arguments as well. I saw someone earlier compare Flowjob to David Walliams!

I'm trying to imagine a (literally) Little Owen Jones, aged 10 or 11, at primary school, possible struggling with his emerging sexuality. Would a 'FlowJob' coming into his school to read some stories really have helped everything fall into place for Owen?

Also, what is this 'Rainbow Club'? I know schools have School Councils, Eco Councils etc but what do primary aged children talk about week in, week out at Rainbow Club? My kids of that age know that men can fall in love and marry men, and women with women, and that that's cool and just the same as a man and woman falling in love, and that if they like boys/girls it's all fine. What more do they need to know at that age? Confused

No mention of Mhairi black calling parents homophobes

Tootsweets23 · 24/02/2020 18:22

It isn't her constituency. It is Gavin Newlands constituency. Usual protocol is informing the constituency MP when doing something in their area - wonder if it happened in this instance.

Also, section 28 was repealed in Scotland in June 2000. Mhairi was 5. Curious what her insights can possibly be about being educated under that law.

Tootsweets23 · 24/02/2020 18:23

Ah soz @SauceForTheGander, cross post re Gavin Newlands.

Lordfrontpaw · 24/02/2020 18:24

BBC - what a kiss ass article.

StandWithYou · 24/02/2020 18:28

The comments from Frankie Boyle etc about objecting to DQST in school, especially relating to this DQ, are all about calling people bigots and homophobic for objecting. It reminds me about the issues with the guy at the NSPCC linking his personal account to his linked in account - saying that he was wrong to bring his sexual behaviour into the workplace was homophobic. No it isn’t- if I or anyone else had wanked in the toilets in a rubber suit and posted about it we would have been fired.

If you want to work with children secure your social media and don’t post explicit pictures that children can access. It’s not difficult - you make that choice (and take the cash) and have to abide by the constraints.

I want my children to value all family’s set ups. However I would be really annoyed that the LGB community is represented by a DQ as i view it as an adult show with a sexualised stereotype of a woman and not suitable for primary aged for children. Why can’t we learn about Nicola Adams, Martina etc? Also is it a bit to expect an actual author to talk about their books and what inspired them - you know something useful for their literacy.

Langbannedforsafeguardingkids · 24/02/2020 18:32

The times article fails to mention some issues (such as pictures of primary aged children being featured in Flowjob's social media amid the pornified images) but this is a good turn of phrase:

"It is unclear how the primary school children had become aware of a drag queen called “Flow Job” and came to invite the performer."

Except it isn't really unclear is it? Primary children don't decide who comes into a school, the teachers do.

Newuser123123 · 24/02/2020 18:33

I just checked his Instagram and the picture of him and the children (showing their faces) was still up

DidoLamenting · 24/02/2020 18:33

Ms Black robustly defended the visit and said that parents who expressed “faux outrage” probably bought their children violent video games

Writing on Twitter, she said: “You just know that the people pretending to be livid that a drag queen read a book in a school . . . are also the people who run out to buy their kids the latest Grand Theft Auto on release day. Your homophobia is transparent

What a nasty piece of work she is.

jadefinch · 24/02/2020 18:39

Frankie Boyle does not have a clue about child safeguarding. No wonder Jimmy Savile got away with it for so long if this is what the BBC is like

definitelygc · 24/02/2020 18:39

I notice the Times journo managed to write an entire article about FlowJob without using a pronoun. We do live in crazy times.

Langbannedforsafeguardingkids · 24/02/2020 18:45

No wonder Jimmy Savile got away with it for so long if this is what the BBC is like

Yep. The BBC is rotten -they looked the other way with Savile for years.

It's the main reason I no longer use BBC services and don't pay my tv license. I'm not funding such a corrupt organisation, despite the fact there are some good people / content there.

Frankie Boyle might want to reflect, though, that if teachers in schools posted pictures of their sex lives on social media, they wouldn't be employed in schools for long.

DidoLamenting · 24/02/2020 18:48

I see the big man Frankie Boyle is blocking anyone who disagrees with him. I've always thought he was vile. He's never done anything to make me think otherwise.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 24/02/2020 18:55

To whomever mentioned PIE as a thing of the past - pretty sure it still exists in some form or another. It's quite interesting that a former PIE member is now treasurer of Edinburgh Pride for example... twitter.com/PankhurstEM/status/1219910527918510087?s=09

Paedophiles are still there, still trying to get things amended under the radar. I'm absolutely sure this is not the intent of TRAs pushing for the GRA amendment, but I'm sure paedophiles will be salivating over the prospect of over 16 children who look pre-pubescent, and of course if children are deemed competent to consent to medical transition with all of its ramifications, sex is a much less serious thing for children to be able to consent to...

Not to mention all these children being taught in school to disregard their instincts and boundaries.

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/02/2020 18:59

Thanks for the share ig.

It is unclear how the primary school children had become aware of a drag queen called “Flow Job” and came to invite the performer.

Its would argue it's very clear how they became aware.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 24/02/2020 19:01

Also of course the former CEO of LGBTYS

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-15790605

It is great that LGB is being educated about in school, but people need to engage some critical thinking and be aware that not everyone's motives are pure.

littlbrowndog · 24/02/2020 19:03

What @MhairiBlack said👍🏳️‍🌈

That is from a snp mp Stewart mcdonald

He doesn’t see a problem that kids from a primary school pictures have been put on an adult sex entertainers insta feed

No problem at all Stewart. Not a fucking clue Stewart about safeguarding Stewart

The council have had to apologise. Stewart. What about you

MadamePewter · 24/02/2020 19:03

A drag queen is hardly a representative of gay people anyway: just another stereotype
