It's funny, I'd have thought there'd be more posts from all those who like to disagree with us - I'm sure they must be delighted about this.

Putting rapists into prison cells with women - great! Women being sarcastic - burn the witches!

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 17/02/2020 08:36

Perhaps they realize that they've finally gone too far? I mean, that level of self awareness would be a surprise, but a woman can dream.

NotBadConsidering · 17/02/2020 08:39

But why doesn’t Nandy be the grown up leader of the major party she wants to be and say to this trans teen, “yes, I will support you with your rights, but that does NOT mean I will support you for everything, and rapists in women’s prisons is one of those things. You may find that hard to hear, but you need to understand that life isn’t always about getting everything we want.”

What is it with politicians and children? Elizabeth Warren wants to have someone interviewed by a trans kid. It’s not helping them you idiots! It’s making them think that the world will jump if they do their sad Puss-in-Boots eyes enough. You’re placing these kids in positions where they shouldn’t be placed and as the fucking grown up, you should know better.

NotBadConsidering · 17/02/2020 08:45

Even the most regular and disingenuous disrupters aren’t stupid enough to come on here and argue that Worton should be in with women, which makes the fact that Nandy said the words with her own mouth, out loud, in public, even more extraordinary.

youkiddingme · 17/02/2020 08:45

Is it naive of me to think that amidst all the cries of 'evil terfs' it is actually those supporting the full TRA agenda without question who possibly hold some bigotted views?
Maybe, they are pure misogynists. Or homophobic. Or both. I guess a fair few will be.
Or they see people in the trans community as so 'allien' that they cannot be held accountable in the same way as others, are unable to act as other people so ALL allowances must be made, without question. No, let's look at the issues on a case by case basis. As though what someone chooses to wear is no different to what prison they are housed in.
Or is it that they just don't understand the issues. Is that laziness then or just another form of bigotry in assuming they know what it is all about so not worth the time finding out?
If people actually care why are they not listening to thise transexuals who have very different ideas to that being pushed by the TRAs? Or the detransitioners?

Lordfrontpaw · 17/02/2020 08:48

No actual thinking done here then. Has she no imagination - no critics thought process? Who is telling her to say these things or ‘this is a vote winner’?

Michelleoftheresistance · 17/02/2020 08:52

For when you are requested to pay up or be molested
You will find it better policy to say -
We never pay anyone Danegeld
No matter how trifling the cost
For the end of that game is oppression and shame
And the nation that pays it is lost

eurochick · 17/02/2020 08:59

I'm not sure if this has already been mentioned but the Times has picked this up today. They are doing sterling work on this issue.

Michelleoftheresistance · 17/02/2020 08:59

And when women's rights have been sacrificed on a silver salver as the one and only thing that this political lobby say will grant them safety and happiness, how long do twits like Nandy think that will hold them?

What will be the next thing demanded to relieve the pain? Who else's rights? Who else's provisions? Because the target will shift very fast. As anyone with even basic actual working experience in these areas would be able to say. Boundaries are essential, and women know this. Boundaries are particularly important with the emotionally very young, and with people who are obsessed with overturning them, and trying to get enough change and enough stuff to meet their needs without capacity to be aware of their impact on others.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 17/02/2020 09:02

When this scandal finally really breaks The Times deserve all the press awards for their role in helping that happen.

The Guardian, otoh, deserve every bit of financial struggle they're experiencing. Their coverage of this issue (and others) has been a disgrace.

ByGrabtharsHammerWhatASavings · 17/02/2020 09:03

What's as extraordinary as the fact she said that, is that everyone is the room applauded that! I couldn't believe what I was hearing! I vote for Labour in the last election but do you know what? I'm seriously fucking glad they lost. I hope they stay unelected for a long long time.

Lordfrontpaw · 17/02/2020 09:04

Labour - where did labour go? The party of my childhood - of my grandfathers and grandmothers, of my parents?

They believed in people having access to work and decent housing and healthcare, and for the government to help when needed (not wanted). They believed in fairness and common sense. In rights for women and children to be safeguarded.

This isn’t Labour - this is a party of meanness, lobby groups, short sighted fantasy politics of the inexperienced and naive ‘good’. It hates women and women’s voices (even the females we see).

We have had 2 woman PMs - neither Labour and they never will have a Labour woman PM. Female maybe...

They are a laughing stock and even the hardened ‘right on’ Labourites I have know are shaking their heads and being remarkable quite these days.

Xanthangum · 17/02/2020 09:05

Just reading today's Times article:

"Supporters claim that the rules on legally switching gender can be bureaucratic and upsetting. Opponents say self-identification would be open to exploitation."

Trying to get hold of HMRC is bureaucratic and upsetting. Sorting out wills, going through your insurance claim for fire damage is bureaucratic and upsetting.

But it's just stuff grown ups have to do.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 17/02/2020 09:05

Are you thinking about why, precisely, a room full of men might applaud the idea of a rapists being put in a women's prison, where the female inmates quite literally have no way of escaping them? I am, and if I knew any of those men personally I would be making damn sure I was never alone in a room with them again.

AnotherNightWatering · 17/02/2020 09:07

Do we know what group she was talking to? Or when it was?

She used exactly the same explanation as on the Today programme, so it must be her rehearsed and considered answer, right down to her vulnerable constituent. The only addition was Julia's excellent and to-the-point question, which exposed the position for what it was.

I'm at such a loss to explain all the clapping.

nauticant · 17/02/2020 09:07

You know the saying "don't get high on your own supply"? I think something like that has happened here.

A year or two back when we said "self-ID could lead to male sex offenders getting into women's prisons" we were told "that will never happen", "you're scaremongering".

Now, when those at the top of the Labour Party are asked "should self-IDing male offenders get into women's prisons" we are told "of course, why on earth would we prevent this, TWAW" and then they wait for applause.

They have shifted their position significantly as a result of only speaking to people having woke views. But the rest of the population hasn't shifted at all. In fact, the rest of the population is slowly waking up and is reacting quite strongly against what they're seeing.

AnotherNightWatering · 17/02/2020 09:09

"Supporters claim that the rules on legally switching gender can be bureaucratic and upsetting. Opponents say self-identification would be open to exploitation."
I always laugh at this. I had to fill in an Attendance Allowance form for my sick mother. I didn't complain about it being bureaucratic and upsetting, as I understood there need to be safeguards that claimants are genuine, FGS.

morningtoncrescent62 · 17/02/2020 09:11

Does anyone have a share token for the Times article?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/02/2020 09:13

I'm at such a loss to explain all the clapping.

Because those men aren't fans of women or our rights.

StealthPolarBear · 17/02/2020 09:13

Yes but that involves actual money, much more important than mere women's safety.

ThePurported · 17/02/2020 09:16

And why is she always talking about the 1 trans person in her constituency

And WHY is she comparing a young girl/woman with gender dysphoria to a child rapist with multiple paraphilias?!
I don't get it - do politicians really believe that young girls who have body issues are basically the same as perverted men? (Not all etc)

Justhadathought · 17/02/2020 09:16

I'm at such a loss to explain all the clapping

It comes down to social conformity and wanting to be accepted by one's chosen group. Plain and simple.

I witnessed similar in the council chamber in Liverpool, when one of the Liverpool Resisters was invited to speak to the chamber ( in the fall-out of 'sticker gate')...not only did one female councillor make a big show of flouncing out - signalling she was not prepared to listen to 'bigotry' - but the whole chamber got to its feet to loudly clap - after bully boy Mayor Joe Anderson - had spent five minutes shouting at the invited speaker in a shocking way.

It was something to witness. That even those who clearly felt uncomfortable at what they had witnessed - rose to their feet too - to join in.

NeurotrashWarrior · 17/02/2020 09:22

I'm not sure a child should be being used in this way full stop.

Lordfrontpaw · 17/02/2020 09:23

‘Clap or we plug in the chairs’ (an old family joke - it was it??)
