Can we work together to create a question that includes as many key points as possible, so that we don't get locked out of the discussion as we did on the Jess Phillips one?

Jess ignored my "what is your definition of woman?" question, I don't know if KS would dare answer it either.

Here we go again!

Lordfrontpaw · 04/02/2020 13:32

I don't think she comes across very well in TV interviews - let's see what she has to say 'on paper'.

Lordfrontpaw · 04/02/2020 15:56

Well there are a few questions and there is a theme so I suspect the thread will have a bit of pruning.

rogdmum · 04/02/2020 17:56

I made it into that lovely pale coloured “news” publication today. Badge of honour, I say.

Fuck it, I've added a question.

Good grief that is a gutter publication. Your 'alleged' child Rogd ….

I see they continue to be unable to join up the dots as to why women might be 'obsessive' and wish to ask questions about the removal of their sex based rights and forcible redefinition of their identity.

Lordfrontpaw · 04/02/2020 18:52

Well if p ‘news’ says it’s debunked - it must be true then!

🥇 (you’ve earned it).

Angryresister · 04/02/2020 19:11

Well the questions so far before michael stepped in are covering quite a lot but if it has the same format as the Starmer one mostly only questions at the time will be taken . We can only keep trying. I bet i know which one will.be chosen if any go through...bets on...

Lordfrontpaw · 04/02/2020 19:14

‘What’s your favourite biscuit?’

Of course if she answers ‘really? You have one question and that’s it???’ she would go up in my esteem (not really)

ScrimshawTheSecond · 04/02/2020 19:15

Had enough of webchats where nothing is allowed to be asked unless it's anodyne and suitable for pre-prepared soundbite 'answers'. Pointless exercise. If politicians want to know what people think, they can bloody well read the boards.

Lordfrontpaw · 04/02/2020 19:22

If a politician can’t hack it on Mumsnet, there really is no hope! It’s their job and I’m sure they get more robust debate at their surgeries and at rallies.

Binterested · 04/02/2020 19:34

I think MNHQ are doing us all a disservice here. They reduce us to simpering idiots whereas actually doing an uncensored MNHQ should be akin to going on the Andrew Marr show (ie important and challenging). They also prevent the MPs from knowing what people are really talking about.

It’s a totally crap piece of product and it does MNHQ no favours at all.

GeordieTerf · 04/02/2020 19:37

As barmy as it may sound, these wishy-washy left wing politicians make me respect Donald Trump a tiny little bit. At least if we had a webchat with someone like him, he'd tell us what he really thought! I'm sick of these sitting-on-the-fence answers.

Thelnebriati · 04/02/2020 19:51

I think someone should start a new thread for Emily Thornberry web chat on the off chance one of her team reads it.

Gone2far · 04/02/2020 20:07

I don't think ANY Labour MP will say other than TWAW.
Having said that, I've gone from disliking ET to thinking that she is the best hope that the Party have. She has experience, and a ballsy attitude, and is intelligent. Unfortunately, she is lagging way behind all the other candidates (unsurprising, given the LP's evident death wish).

I think that's how he won. It's how Borris won. It's probably how Hitler won.

When politicians won't grasp the nettle and discus complex answers to difficult questions they open the door to those ready with loud, clear, simple answers.

We are cursed to live in interesting times.

MrsSnippyPants · 04/02/2020 20:22

ThinEnd I find it helpful, whether writing emails/letters or speaking in real life, to stick to three points.

Sometimes I only mention one, depending on my audience and depending on what I think will get them wanting to know more.
When I went to see my new MP, I spoke about the following (and left him with some articles);

Speech (I mentioned Maya, Harry, and women being banned from social media).

Spaces (Sports, toilets, changing rooms, prisons, refuges, whatever is most important to you among those).

Safeguarding/Schools (I mentioned the Tavistock whistleblowers and the guidance given to schools about children being able to ‘identify ‘ into the spaces of the opposite sex, so also links into single sex spaces as above. If I had children in school I would be bringing in more specific topics on that).

I find if I think of those three strands, I can then find a specific issue for each one that I particularly want to highlight.

I call them ‘the three S’s’ and they really help me focus.

Totally agree, Binterested

NeurotrashWarrior · 04/02/2020 20:33

Nandy must be next....

ScrimshawTheSecond · 04/02/2020 20:38

‘the three S’s’ - that makes good sense. Thanks, MrsSnippy. I'm going to write to my (woke) MP and will use that.

Tombakersscarf · 04/02/2020 20:39

I'm not bothering with any more web chats

Michelleoftheresistance · 04/02/2020 20:46

They also prevent the MPs from knowing what people are really talking about.

Unfortunately I think it's a misconception that MPs come here wanting to listen.

StillWeRise · 04/02/2020 21:00

yes, that probably is a misconception but I bet they all have minions who are lurking
hi there, minions- remember, 'the labour party likes to listen'- I heard it on my doorstep so it must be true Grin

ScrimshawTheSecond · 04/02/2020 21:15

Aye, it's an exercise to display themselves engaging. Not great PR when they demonstrably arent engaging.

Mner2000 · 04/02/2020 21:22

The webchats are a complete misnomer - they seem to promise way more than they actually deliver particularly with the very heavy restrictions on what we ‘are allowed’ to ask...
