Can we work together to create a question that includes as many key points as possible, so that we don't get locked out of the discussion as we did on the Jess Phillips one?

Jess ignored my "what is your definition of woman?" question, I don't know if KS would dare answer it either.

No I have to say that I've seen the last couple of webchats and I really don't see the point of them. Pre-curated questions and no live engagement means they're not actually webchats.

What would be the difference between this and sending in a list of MN questions in advance and just uploading the Q&A?

Confused
ScrimshawTheSecond · 04/02/2020 22:06

I guess there's the slight thrill of thinking that an actual live politician might respond to you, Clymene? Except they don't. So yes, I don't understand the point of it being 'live'. The politico could just email a list of biscuits directly in.

SirVixofVixHall · 04/02/2020 23:22

Agree with Binterested s post on page 9.

LangClegsOpinionIsNoted · 05/02/2020 08:18

While I am still annoyed / frustrated / disheartened by MNHQ's approach to the webchats (ha, typed webshats the first time, seems appropriate!) it does seem that they've let more GC questions through on these last two than on the Jess Phillips one, didn't the hammer come down after three on that one?

So, small progress. Obviously the politicians will dodge the questions but I suppose that's what they do.

Wishing for a Paxman-style live interview with the question "but what is a woman" is repeated over and over until they have to answer!

It's very strange. Webchats have become more and more curated over the years. In the beginning it was about giving politicians the chance to woo the all important female vote.

Now that we know there's no such thing as being female, or being a woman Hmm and that we're all an idea in the mind of someone male, the tables seem to have turned and it seems to be MN that has to bend over backwards to keep politicians happy. As though politicians were the ones whose votes were being courted by the uk's most popular website.

Geoffreythecat · 05/02/2020 09:53

I prefer the term controlled to curated. Because that's what's actually happening.

SirVixofVixHall · 05/02/2020 10:12

Controlled, yes. Who does this help ? Not the women asking questions, certainly, but also not the politicians - surely they need to know what people are feeling ? Why do they think they lost places like Wrexham ? Very, very stupid to not engage properly with the electorate.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/02/2020 11:11

Yes, we can be forced to be silent, but sorry, we can't be forced to vote for you.

ThinEndoftheWedge · 05/02/2020 13:15

@MrsSnippyPants

Thanks - good idea - what was the response from the MP?

What about four Ss:

Stonewall...?

Lordfrontpaw · 05/02/2020 13:35

weasel-weasel side-step side-step.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 05/02/2020 13:53

ThinEnd, it's such a large topic, with so many arms and legs, and all apparently tangled up together. One could easily go off on one of many directions. I'm trying hard to narrow it down and stay focussed. I think I'll start with my most simple and straightforward concerns.

StealthPolarBear · 05/02/2020 13:55

And the banned S
Sex

Maybe we should campaign for its removal entirely. If you want to get pregnant you should have gender regularly.
Bill "did you engage in gender intercourse?"
Might help to make tje point

ThinEndoftheWedge · 05/02/2020 14:02

@ScrimshawTheSecond yes you are right!

@Stealth. Sex - the entire issue in one word!

ScrimshawTheSecond · 05/02/2020 14:02

Lordfrontpaw · 05/02/2020 15:26

Anyone old enough to remember the Two Ronnies skit where they were newsreaders replacing words with 'sex' in them with 'thingy' (ie Middlethingy'.

Oh how we laughed Hmm

ThinEndoftheWedge · 05/02/2020 16:33

@Lordfrontpaw who would have thought the Two Ronnies would be such cultural trailblazers way before their time!!!
