Can we work together to create a question that includes as many key points as possible, so that we don't get locked out of the discussion as we did on the Jess Phillips one?

Jess ignored my "what is your definition of woman?" question, I don't know if KS would dare answer it either.

Ah, he is probably the most astute of the candidates, TRAHR means very little even coming from a QC. Most TRAs believe one of those rights is self id but I assume he did not go into specifics.

Have a kitten, Smile Smile

I've had a look on Twitter and already seen him called transphobic and pandering to mumsnet by a couple of people

There's absolutely no way to please that particular bunch on Twitter, nothing will ever be enough and everything is 'transphobic'. If he isn't aware of that by now then there's no hope for him.

EleanorScott · 03/02/2020 18:39

I've just written a blog piece about one aspect of the webchat.

I hope it's ok to use the question put by @rogdmum about 'what happened to the inquiry?' and Keir Starmer's response. In the piece I focus on children's safeguarding, as I previously did with Penny Mordaunt.

I'll post it up this evening if there's no objection.

DuLANGMondeFOREVER · 03/02/2020 18:41

Sounds good, Eleanor

(ROGD teen in our household too)

if we seriously don't want TWAW to become universal policy we need to lobby the government not the opposition in waiting, while I know many hate the government and the Tory party as a whole on MN; they are the Government we have and with a huge majority have control over the agenda within parliament and the legislation and don't need to pander to small fragment groups to get things through parliament; they are not being held hostage by DUP or indeed anyone.

I do not think for a moment Jacob Rees Mogg thinks TWAW whatever we think of him anyone who lives in his constituency should write to him urging him to stand firm and not give in to TWAW lobby and ask him how to ensure such rules are not whitewashed I doubt he wants his daughters safe spaces eroded ( not that I agree with politicians children being involved in arguments)

rogdmum · 03/02/2020 18:54

Eleanor I of course don’t mind if you use it. Smile

ExEUCitizen · 03/02/2020 18:55

Glad to see this as we're not allowed to continue conversations on webchat threads any more, and I admit I am beginning to get a bit annoyed with being told that we are not allowed to discuss things. Although I understand the brevity of webchats, women constitute 50% of the population and we have the right to ask questions about how our biological reality is being redefined as some sort of idea in men's heads.

That said.

Keir Starmer is a lawyer and a politician, and in both words and language are vitally important. Does anyone see any ground for hope in the fact that he did not say trans women are women?

He said trans rights are human rights. I hardly object to calling transpeople human! Is this an attempt to fudge do you think, or a slight acknowledgement that there is a problem here?

rogdmum · 03/02/2020 19:01

Put a link up once you’ve posted it, Eleanor ?

TheCuriousMonkey · 03/02/2020 19:01

Smile I'd love to discuss other issues. However there are good reasons why what you call "trans" issues dominate here.

Firstly, there is virtually no other place online where we can talk about genderism as a threat to women's rights. And real life discussions are constrained by actual and threatened aggression and no platforming. No wonder we carry on speaking about these issues here, even putting up with the special restrictions on what we can say.

Secondly, we won't be able to talk about issues affecting women (DV, workplace discrimination, women MPs etc etc) if the genderists get their way and redefine the meaning of "woman".

How can we record and challenge domestic abuse against women perpetrated by men if we have to define the words "women" and "men" as "anyone who identifies as..."?

What is the point of supporting women in politics by initiatives such as women only shortlists if men are allowed to be on those shortlists?

ExEUCitizen · 03/02/2020 19:02

We're not going to get practical nitty-gritty out of politicians in an hour's webchat more's the pity. I liked his looking to Scandinavia for post-maternity rights, and the clarity that dads should be as responsible as mums, although getting that through post-Brexit arguments Britain is not going to be easy.

ExEUCitizen · 03/02/2020 19:03

What is the point of supporting women in politics by initiatives such as women only shortlists if men are allowed to be on those shortlists? Perhaps that is the kind of clear and simple question that should be asked of politicians next time!

Binterested · 03/02/2020 19:06

Start some interesting new threads then smile. This is all actually the most interesting political phenomenon I have ever seen - ideological belief system, total regulatory capture, shut down of dissent across numerous developed economies, creation of a new caste of witches. I didn’t expect to see that in the 21st century. But if you’re not interested, don’t be.

EleanorScott · 03/02/2020 19:08

I will do, @rogdmum (put a link up) and I can make any changes you request once you've read it. It's a fairly short read. Thank you.

EwwSprouts · 03/02/2020 19:13

Do you never think it's not all about The Trans issue? Totally. My question to him (which was not answered) was would he pledge to make the abysmal rape prosecution and conviction rates a priority? But I I can also see allowing males to access all areas via self-ID is not a forward step towards that.

Thelnebriati · 03/02/2020 19:14

Smilethoyourheartisbreaking
As its been explained multiple times by posters more eloquent than I am - if all you see is posts about trans issues, its because you are ignoring the women.

People are posting about issues that affect them and other women. They are explaining the end effect of a piece of legislation which has massive cross party support in a way that women's rights have never had.

LangClegsInSpace · 03/02/2020 19:35

ExEUCitizen - Perhaps that is the kind of clear and simple question that should be asked of politicians next time!

Someone did ask it as a follow up question when Kier brought up AWS. It lasted seconds before deletion. It was deleted before before we got the 'that's enough follow up questions on that sort of thing' message.

ExEUCitizen · 03/02/2020 19:41

I don't like the deletions. I am slightly hopeful though from that. In future (if there is a future one), there may be a way forward through very specific situational questions. "Does biological reality / social reality make a difference in this specific situation". In sport and pregnancy, and in enclosed spaces, it does.

rogdmum · 03/02/2020 19:46

@eleanorscott - just to mention you've put January as the webchat date.

We are in February now (I know! ShockShockShock)
