Can we work together to create a question that includes as many key points as possible, so that we don't get locked out of the discussion as we did on the Jess Phillips one?

Jess ignored my "what is your definition of woman?" question, I don't know if KS would dare answer it either.

I’m trying to cling to the positives here. He did parrot the ridiculous TRAHR bollocks. BUT, he didn’t say TWAW. I think he has to tread a fine line here. Not only does he risk alienating some of his party but also those who still do not understand the debate. I think he gets it but can’t say it.
I think he still has my vote. I think.

Lazyteens · 03/02/2020 14:58

Well that was predictable. Keir was my preferred candidate, but his weasel words really disappointed me - I can’t vote for any of them. I also think the follow up questions/comments should remain on the thread. I feel let down once again.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 03/02/2020 14:59

I think he gets it but can’t say it.

I completely disagree. I think he has completely swallowed the gender ideology lies and just doesn't have the balls to come out and tell women to shut up and be nice on MN.

Winecheesesleep · 03/02/2020 15:02

@theunknownknown I agree. I think he worded this carefully and knows he will get outrage either way. I'm a bit disappointed with his response on this too but I still think he does get it more than the others.

RoyalCorgi · 03/02/2020 15:02

What’s your favourite biscuit?' Is this a joke?

Every politician who comes on MN gets asked that question. It is kind of a joke, but a running one. They should all be aware of it by now. I think it originated when people were trying to get a genuine human answer rather than a robotic one.

I'm disappointed in Keir. It was the use of that phrase "Trans rights are human rights" - it's just a meaningless mantra used by TRAs. He's more intelligent than that.

MrsToddsShortcut · 03/02/2020 15:04

I asked if he would meet with women's groups as well as trans groups and mentioned the WPUK conference but the question was zapped.

Lordfrontpaw · 03/02/2020 15:06

@RoyalCorgi - I know, but it's not funny when he has just drop-kicked womankind to the kerb!

JollyYellaHumberElla · 03/02/2020 15:08

But parroting the TRAHR thing, immediately after all the guff about supporting women and girls very specifically, just throws into high relief how utterly he lacks any ability (or willingness) to engage with the issues.

As soon as the Elephant In The Room has to be acknowledged, they all glaze over and start emitting some factory settings mode of pre programmed words, and then immediately close the discussion. Most Oppressed. TRAHR. Most Discriminated Against Ever. Heated on Both Sides. Error. Please Try Again Later. This Politician Will Close Down In 5, 4, 3 ...

littlbrowndog · 03/02/2020 15:13

He just bleated bleated bleated.

Don’t labour even care about women and I mean really care and actually listen to us 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

rogdmum · 03/02/2020 15:14

Well done to Rodgmum for getting that in. No one with political power should be able to get away with acting like they knew nothing when the awful bubble of childhood gender transition breaks.

That's pretty much my strategy right now DuLANG . I don't see any politicians taking an interest anytime soon so am just using any opportunity to get it documented.

PlayYouLikeAShark · 03/02/2020 15:14

Absolutely none of the points in the question were even addressed. Instead he says he's met with trans people, they're marginalised, TRAHR. Hmm

That's a dodge & a piss poor one at that.

And how tightly controlled was that chat? On a thread where he's also asked about concerns over freedom of speech, which he strongly defends, women are being censored & stopped from even asking why he failed to answer any part of the question asked about protecting women's rights.

PlayYouLikeAShark · 03/02/2020 15:16

I'm guess he's another politician who won't catch that courage bug that Joan McAlpine was talking about at WPUK then...

NeurotrashWarrior · 03/02/2020 15:20

Sadly I missed the web chat.

If Kier or his team are reading:

I have met with members of the trans community and I know this is a group of people who have been subjected to incredible abuse and discrimination for a very long time.

Have you met any of the trans widows or children of transitioned who have found their experiences traumatic and coercive, not to mention definitively abusive yet?

This is a safeguarding issue that gets rainbow washed.

NeurotrashWarrior · 03/02/2020 15:21

For Keir Starmer:

NeurotrashWarrior · 03/02/2020 15:21

Well done @rodgmum Star

Tanith · 03/02/2020 15:24

For goodness sake, it's a web chat! You are not going to get in depth answers to any question in just an hour with everything to get through. My question wasn't even answered; do you see me grumbling about it? If you really want to know more, contact them direct.

The biscuit question is asked of everyone. It's a tradition and, yes, of course it's a joke. Most answer it - this is the first time I've seen someone criticised for doing so.

smileylottie87 · 03/02/2020 15:27

How about something along the lines of this in future.

We are all in agreement that trans rights are human rights and given that these rights are the same as every man and woman in the county no one is being denied said rights. There are, however, unavoidable conflicting issues regarding sex based rights, so how will you ensure women and men will retain their sex based rights as detailed in the Equality Act?

DeRigueurMortis · 03/02/2020 15:36

I'm not really sure what anyone really expected to be honest.

I'd have loved him to to state he was opposed to self ID, concerned about ROGD and wanted an independent inquiry, that there absolutely is a tension between trans/women's rights that needs to be acknowledged etc

But that was never going to happen in the midst of a leadship race. If he did he'd be hung out to dry - game over. Dancing around the issues as he did was the only real option and it's a sign of how toxic this debate is that this is necessary and equally how ingrained that TWAW is within the membership.

I'm honestly still not clear what he thinks about this issue but I do know that RLB and LN haven drunk the kool aid in copious quantities.

So perhaps naively, I'm hoping that he does understand this issue and is genuine in wanting constructive debate/discourse - though I think he'll find out pretty quickly when dealing with people for whom no platforming/no debate is a mantra that's going to be very difficult to achieve.

Redshoeblueshoe · 03/02/2020 15:44

Smiley I like that.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 03/02/2020 15:51

Well I've never been so grateful to have taken my eye off the ball here, distracted as I am with my Prepping Preparations. I didn't think it was possible to be more anxious and fed up but then comes along another MN webchat...

"I have met with members of the trans community and I know this is a group of people who have been subjected to incredible abuse and discrimination for a very long time."

Oh the irony of saying this to a group of women who are expressing concerns about our safety and our rights. Naturally we know nothing of abuse and discrimination.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 03/02/2020 15:52

Women, don't think you can prioritise yourselves, you selfish witches. Shut up and don't hurt anyone's feels.

Michelleoftheresistance · 03/02/2020 15:56

I know, but it's not funny when he has just drop-kicked womankind to the kerb!

It is rather 'apart from that Mrs Lincoln, how did you enjoy the play?'

Tone deaf to women. Likewise:

"I have met with members of the trans community and I know this is a group of people who have been subjected to incredible abuse and discrimination for a very long time."

While talking to members of the female community who are actively being deleted and silenced right in front of him to prevent them from even raising the issues of abuse and discrimination towards them. I bet the members of the trans community got rapt attention, and no one deleting them, shutting them down with mantras or reminding them repeatedly that female people also get subjected to incredible abuse (2-3 murders a week, Kier) and discrimination. (Like not being allowed to talk about their sex based rights being removed.)

Michelleoftheresistance · 03/02/2020 15:59

"I have met with members of the trans community and I know this is a group of people who have been subjected to incredible abuse and discrimination for a very long time."

just that response in itself, to women who try to raise their concerns about their issues, says it all.

Female people, my attention and interest is on the people who want your rights. Because poor them. So shhh.

Michelleoftheresistance · 03/02/2020 16:01

And the: 'it's been a really good session'.

………..… not so much, Kier, no.

Justhadathought · 03/02/2020 16:07

*His answer to most of the questions posed was wish-washy, sitting on the fence8

I think that is what you are going to get with Kier Starmer generally, to be honest...and that is probably seen as the way to unite the party.....

Lisa Nandy is my preferred candidate - but even then, can't see any of the current crop saying anything different to what has gone down before regarding TWAW etc
