Saphos but in the equivalence you've tried to present it's a person who shouldn't be in the space deliberately trying to cause distress to an AHF who has a right to be there and would be uncomfortable to find That Person there.
It's not the same.

SapphosRock · 23/01/2020 15:18

It wasn't the swearing - I guess as a lesbian, if I saw something aimed at lesbians as a group saying 'hahahahaha fuck you fuckfaces' I would find it quite upsetting and I imagined transgender people may have felt the same.

Clearly the mods didn't agree! It surprises me that they are being challenged for not being GC enough.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 23/01/2020 15:19

Apologies, wrong spelling Sapphos Smile

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 23/01/2020 15:24

This is a reaction to people who have a problem with a dictionary definition and claim it's transphobic though! People who want to change the actual definition of woman!

I think someone who wants to do that doesn't give a hoot about biological girls and women so is indeed a fuck face.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 23/01/2020 15:30

It wasn't the swearing - I guess as a lesbian, if I saw something aimed at lesbians as a group saying 'hahahahaha fuck you fuckfaces' I would find it quite upsetting and I imagined transgender people may have felt the same. But that assumes that you believe TWAW!

People who do, and objected to women disagreeing, were the intended target for both the posters, iluminations and Lang's comment!

Not every hat has to fit!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 23/01/2020 15:30

It surprises me that they are being challenged for not being GC enough. They are not! Not in the slightest!

SapphosRock · 23/01/2020 15:31

Therefore I assume it would be okay to write 'hahaha fuck you fuckfaces' to lesbians and gay men regarding this dictionary definition of marriage being beamed onto a building?

Of course it bloody wouldn't.

Sapphos, it's a bit of a convoluted way to get the conversation around to your best person to hate.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 23/01/2020 15:33

Oh stop it!

False analogies and lack of apology when in error don't wash.

And that definition is out of date in the UK... Look, AMERCIAN DICTIONARY versus even a bloody wiki page

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marriage_in_England_and_Wales

Marriage in England and Wales is available to both opposite-sex and same-sex couples and is legally recognised in the forms of both civil and religious marriage

Try again...

CuriousaboutSamphire · 23/01/2020 15:34

So yes. Many of us would quite happily have quoted Lang when faced with that definition - as in you Fuck you you homophobic fuck face...

Barracker · 23/01/2020 15:34

What should we say to the opposite sex when they order us to repeat something untrue about ourselves, and we refuse, Sapphos?

"Dear sirs, we respectfully decline your command to "repeat after you", and offer you this counter opinion about what we women actually are, and why you should refrain from redefining us inappropriately. Yours respectfully,"

I think Lang's version is pithier.

MsMcWibble · 23/01/2020 15:36

Barracker Once again hits the spot.
I was a technical author for most of my working life. I know how language is used to control and obfuscate. Walking around the Mumsnet 'cracks' is painful to me. This is women being controlled and made to walk on eggshells. We are all under threat constantly for getting it wrong, and the punishment is losing our voice completely.
Extra fun because no one is clear about exactly where the 'cracks' are - for example the 'not in the spirit' rule.
Feel like I'm playing Twister on the cracks, and they are moving constantly around me.

SapphosRock · 23/01/2020 15:39

Yes I agree with the dictionary definition of woman being adult human female. Doesn't mean I have to call people 'fuckfaces' who feel differently. Sinking to their level surely?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 23/01/2020 15:42

Doesn't mean I have to call people 'fuckfaces' who feel differently. Sinking to their level surely? Or, as the MN T+Cs have it, using these forums to vent a bit, not to have to keep that socially acceptable womanface/mouth in check all the time!

It was humour. Crude, exasperated humour. What is wrong with that?

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 23/01/2020 15:43

Once I've publicly stated the people I'm talking to should be raped to death, die in a grease fire or bludgeoned with a barb wire decorated baseball bat then I will consider myself to have sunk to their level, definitely.

Until then I shall occasionally use expletives when dealing with people who regularly spout biological untruths and compel my daughter or I do to the same.

I get that makes me a mean person occasionally but I can live with that.

HandsOffMyLangCleg · 23/01/2020 15:44

MN still not seen sense I see.
This space is much poorer without Lang.

However,
yesterday I saw R0 was back and now Bewilderness

In real life today I gave a safeguarding lead the Transgendertrend pack.
I finally got the courage thanks to this utter betrayal of children and safeguarding by a parenting site.

SapphosRock · 23/01/2020 15:47

Well clearly nothing is wrong with it as it's still up there for all to see. Maybe if a similar phrase was directed at the mods (as a group rather than individually) it could explain things.

Thelnebriati · 23/01/2020 15:48

I'm angry about the goady and completely ridiculous claims being made on this thread, which as far as I can see amount to generalised claims made about a group. I don't see why we should have to defend ourselves against false claims.

I can see that at least one comment has been deleted but with no deletion message, which is unusual to say the least.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 23/01/2020 15:50

Maybe if a similar phrase was directed at the mods (as a group rather than individually) it could explain things But it wasn't. Michael's post upthread makes that very clear!

Stop making things up. It doesn't make sense!

I know I'm late to the discussion about name changes. They are useful in many ways but on here being able to recognise a name lets you know whether to stop and fully read or even skip a post. Skipping is useful, though certain posters do seem to name change quite regularly. Always familiar in tone and content though.

Doyoumind · 23/01/2020 16:02

TheInebriati do you mean a post was there and now there is nothing in its place at all?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 23/01/2020 16:03

Frankly, I think there is an issue with employing a male moderator for a feminist board. Much as I get what you mean and hope that this will be one of the things being discussed by the team as a whole, I can only imagine how it might be read... just imagine how that male moderator now feels.

That being entirely the point of Lang's supposed indiscretion!

It is a hard road we are being pushed down. As individuals we have to decide whether we remain as we are and keep on being pushed or whether we take a stride, walk down that road ahead of the battle!

I now what decision I took way back in the 80s, in my teens. This feels just as damaging, to me, my world view, my self view. I am not a man hating feminist now any more than I was then! But fuck me, I am so very tired of the way SOME MEN choose to deny my right to autonomous thought and living!

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 23/01/2020 16:05

Oh wow - no, that won't come across as a personal attack towards the mods at all. Hmm
