Stonewall training in school

My daughters school has arranged some training for parents about LGBT issues. Apparently it is written by Stonewall. Does anyone know what this might be?

What's wrong with the transgender trend advice.

What's wrong with TT is that it's so clearly one-sided. Laughably so in fact. Every person supposedly interviewed for its schools pack discovers they were never trans after all. There's one lesbian supposedly interviewed talking about erasure and one teacher supposedly interviewed describing being trans as a fad. There is absolutely no indication from the schools pack that someone could possibly be trans at the end of whatever wait and see period they're talking about.

Sexequality · 14/01/2020 22:39

We know Stonewall are trying to discredit Transgender Trend but the quote you give is no more ‘evidence’ than your own unfounded accusations were. Repeating a lie does not make it true.

Can you point to any specific inaccuracies?

Thelnebriati · 14/01/2020 22:39

Do Stonewall charge schools for their advice?

Ereshkigal · 14/01/2020 22:39

They produced a sticker pack, and people raised concerns that stickers might encourage division among children. They listened to the concerns and withdrew the stickers. Not seeing anything terribly wrong there really, but you do you.

Sexequality · 14/01/2020 22:41

it’s so clearly one-sided. 😂😂😂😂

You certainly couldn’t accuse Stonewall or presenting a range of views!

Ereshkigal · 14/01/2020 22:41

Mmm and Stonewall, Mermaids and Gendered Intelligence materials are models of impartiality.

Do you accept they were dishonest about claiming they never intended for them to be used in schools? Some might say tweets telling people well done for doing so and retweeting those saying they are doing so undermines their claim somewhat.

OldCrone · 14/01/2020 22:42

Where's your last screenshot from snowblight? It appears to just be someone's opinion. Is it supposed to prove something?

Uncompromisingwoman · 14/01/2020 22:43

Hopefully OP there are some useful points on here. And do take a look at the TT pack - maybe give a copy to the Head? When teachers actually read it, they find it really constructive. It focuses on schools, school systems and the needs of vulnerable children - not the demands of adult lobbyists.

FamilyOfAliens · 14/01/2020 22:46

I was told by the PSHE lead for my local education authority that the Transgendertrend school toolkit was not compliant with the Equality Act 2010 and that this had been confirmed by Stonewall.

So I emailed Stonewall, who stated that the toolkit promoted “exclusion rather than inclusion” (of whom they didn’t say), and that the toolkit was “dangerous”. However they were unable to give me a single example of this from the toolkit.

I fed back to my LEA that Stonewall was unable to provide any evidence to support their claims about the Transgendertrend toolkit and as a result my colleagues in schools across the county are reading and sharing the Transgendertrend toolkit again.

Uncompromisingwoman · 14/01/2020 22:46

It's worth pointing out that TT apologised for those stickers - on reflection, they decided that they were counter productive.
I liked that - a thoughtful and reflective organisation.

I just think they didn't think it through, then listened to people and realised the potential for abuse. It's hardly the crime of the century, is it?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 14/01/2020 22:48

Oh, is this today's Don Quixote thread? Points for effort and all, but no, Transgender Trend are not mean meanies who are very mean.

snowblight · 14/01/2020 22:49

No, but saying 'we never intended...' when you know full we that you did tends to undermine your credibility.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 14/01/2020 22:49

Can't wait for the op to came back and suddenly realise the evil of Transgender trend for their following of NHS advice.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 14/01/2020 22:50

(Ponders how Stonewall could possibly undermine their own credibility further than they have already)

SarahTancredi · 14/01/2020 22:51

Here's stonewall saying it's ok to have.mixed sex sleeping accommodation In schools and saying they can keep it from.parents

Surely you arent ok with schools keeping secrets

OP - Good god, you're right? I have seen the light! I will now advise everyone I know that caution is evil, the NHS is in league with Satan, and mums worried about their children are the greatest threat to society today.

Also that woman is a witch, she is, you can tell cause she has a cat.

LangCleg · 14/01/2020 22:52

Stonewall guidance is not Working Together compliant on several grounds (for example, confidential disclosures, information sharing and parental alienation).

OP: you should ask the school if it has had advance sight of the materials and whether or not they have been inspected by the safeguarding lead for Working Together compliance.

LangCleg · 14/01/2020 22:54

You should also ask what safeguarding training the people coming in have had. It should be at least Level 2.

Ereshkigal · 14/01/2020 22:55

We don't "know full well that they did." It was a throwaway comment.

This is all really quite desperate and irrelevant. Shall I point you to all the times Stonewall and Mermaids have been less than honest?

OhHolyJesus · 14/01/2020 22:59

Stonewall do charge around £400 a pop for training, there are also membership fees for being a Diversity Champion School and teacher training. You can see from the numbers it's big business.

www.transgendertrend.com/product/school-resource-pack-3rd-edition-digital-download/

Here's a link to the Transgender Trend resource pack for schools which seems entirely uncontroversial to me. It advocates watchful waiting and yes, does include a couple of case studies from young people who detransitioned. Obviously for those of us who believe putting children onto a pathway of medication and surgery is a frightening prospect, these stories are comforting rather than scaremongering.

Datun · 14/01/2020 23:05

You could trying asking them to define homosexuality.

That should do it.

SarahTancredi · 14/01/2020 23:05

Do they still want to remove sex by deception as an offence ?
