Reuben adds: “I found it frustrating that people didn’t just ask my gender or not use it. I look like a man, have a beard.

Maybe the “giving birth” part rendered it pointless?

It's all about the validation. That poor baby.

This isn't news and I don't give a toss. If the media keep reporting crap like this like it's special, like donating sperm or giving birth are something people haven't been doing for hundreds of years then they just add to these people's feeling that they ARE special and clever instead of just normal people doing the same shit other people do but dressed differently. In the end we ALL know (the media, the public, the medical profession) that a MAN/MALE donated sperm and a WOMAN/FEMALE gave birth same as other men and women do every day of the week. So it's all non news.

The most jarring aspect is that I don't believe for one second that a female suffering dysphoria can be pregnant and give birth - and if they do and can stand it then I suspect they could diminish that same dysphoria through talking therapy and without hormones or surgery so once a trans man goes through this process I lose any sympathy I had and they just irritate me instead. The reason? Well, like many women here I know damn well that being pregnant and giving birth are ALL about your body and its femaleness and I know how intrusive it all is, you cant escape it. If you can get through that I'm pretty certain you can deal with dysphoria in less intrusive ways than a life of medicine and costing the NHS thousands. It just confirms to me that the real motive is being 'special' in a culture which seems to think we all have to be special - which just isn't possible. I now have zero patience for this giving birth pageantry, just give it up already and stop reporting it like it is news.

So a female person was impregnated with sperm from a male person, resulting in a baby. So ... just like every other human being that's ever existed then.

HerRoyalFattyness · 29/12/2019 15:23

Er. Mumsnet?
Why has @Aaarrgghhh had their comment deleted?
And can you please explain how it breaks guidelines?

MunaZaldrizoti · 29/12/2019 15:25

I want to understand Trans people and their views but as I read this entire thing I couldn't help think "what the actual fuck?".

Even when people go through that pregnancy experience with their partner, it’s a joint thing.

No, it isn't. One is pregnant and doing the actual work of creating a whole human from scratch, the other is not.

JellySlice · 29/12/2019 16:28

Reuben adds: “I found it frustrating that people didn’t just ask my gender or not use it. I look like a man, have a beard.

No, you don't. Neither of you do. Not even when all cues are cropped out. You look like what you both are.

Congratulations on your baby. Live your best lives. Live as makes you happy. But do not expect the rest of the world to live their lives according to your choices.

What did I say that warranted deletion? @MNHQ

Thesuzle · 29/12/2019 16:32

I reaalllllyy worry about the children, how does it not f**k with their heads

FWRLurker · 29/12/2019 16:34

Well there is male pregnancy... but humans aren’t seahorses or pipefish. :)

MarshaBradyo · 29/12/2019 16:35

Man and woman have a baby, it doesn’t matter what they look like. Twisted language.

madcatladyforever · 29/12/2019 16:35

I have a migraine coming on just from reading the title.

boredboredboredboredbored · 29/12/2019 16:36

🤯

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 29/12/2019 16:38

”I look like a man, have a beard”
The beard part is right...

That poor child - I have a penis & you don’t, I call you Daddy so ConfusedConfusedConfused etc

Why does this crap make the papers? Female human gestates baby as female humans have done since the dawn of time Hmm

anonnancy · 29/12/2019 16:47

Crikey, I feel exhausted after just reading the title of this thread...

Call me old fashioned but I'm pretty sure a female does not make sperm and a male does not possess a uterus to carry a child.

Identify as male / female / dog / cat ... hell, identify as a toaster for all I care.... but biologically you are what you are in terms of reproduction.

Sorry. I will now prepare myself for some hate!

HerRoyalFattyness · 29/12/2019 16:50

@Aaarrgghhh
I'm going to guess they think you were transphobic Hmm
Which is a load of crap but hey, what do biological women know about women's biology eh?

sue51 · 29/12/2019 16:53

In these cases, what goes on the birth certificate under mother?

PurpleHoodie · 29/12/2019 16:57

'Female gets pregnant using sperm'

Shocked I tell you.

user1486131602 · 29/12/2019 17:06

I have human biology a levels, but could someone please explain this to me? What does this mean?!

Sprinklemetinsel · 29/12/2019 17:15

This made me so angry. SO VERY angry.

TimeLady · 29/12/2019 17:16

In these cases, what goes on the birth certificate under mother?

Presumably the one who gestated the baby is legally the mother, as in this case

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-49828705

But a High Court judge ruled the status of "mother" was afforded to a person who carries and gives birth to a baby.He said while Mr McConnell's gender was recognised by law as male, his parental status of "mother" derives from the biological role of giving birth.

BiologyIsReal · 29/12/2019 18:16

Reuben adds: “I found it frustrating that people didn’t just ask my gender or not use it. I look like a man, have a beard.

The fact that you pushed a human out of your fanny gives people a clue sweetheart to what SEX you are. As for the gender bollocks.....

BiologyIsReal · 29/12/2019 18:19

Actually these fairry tales are good as people are going to read that and know how absurd this whole gender nonsense has got.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 29/12/2019 18:37

So much enormously misguided waffle. Which would be fine, were it not that people are mucking around with hormones and surgery to achieve what they think is the 'right' body. It's very sad, really.

Anyway, wouldn't care a jot, other than I would like to know for absolute sure that a baby whose mother has had years of testosterone is not going to be affected by that.

FannyCann · 29/12/2019 19:12

One thing that does surprise me is how these trans men on testosterone seem to be able to get pregnant quite easily once they stop the testosterone. Good news for detransitioners.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 29/12/2019 19:53

Yes that surprises me too Fanny I do wonder how long they have been taking T because of the atrophy & resulting hysterectomy associated with longer term use
