Jess Phillips pile on on Twitter

Catmaiden · 16/12/2019 21:36

It seems to have gone now, but I saw this morning on Twitter Jess Phillips MP, saying that the five gc questions to candidates seemed reasonable, there were some supportive tweets, and then there was a huge pile on from a lot of people saying TWAW and a certain amount of abuse.

Anyone know what happened here?

That’s good isn’t it? Alerts her still further to the absolute intolerance of women’s views in this ideology. I don’t think she’ll come out as GC completely - but she’ll be alerted.

Catmaiden · 16/12/2019 21:39

Is it still up, because I can't see it now?

Poota · 16/12/2019 21:52

Can't see anything specific, but there are hundreds of tweets from TRAs and other assorted misogynists frantically claiming that she is a t**f and a racist and that she curdled their milk.

nauticant · 16/12/2019 21:58

As far as I can tell, following Jess Phillips being suggested as a leadership candidate, TRAs have been going through her comments, on twitter and otherwise, to find evidence of "transphobia", for example this:

twitter.com/jessphillips/status/931093574011191296

It seems to be a standard "are you now or have you ever been ..." witch hunt. Including going after those who are guilty by association:

Unless something else has also gone on.

YellaHumberElla · 16/12/2019 22:00

I saw this yesterday. I think she had supported a WPUK tweet by saying the request for consideration seemed reasonable, followed by the entirely predictable hoards of shrieking TRAs hurling abuse.

Catmaiden · 16/12/2019 22:01

It was definitely her tweeting (good!) in support of the five candidate questions that FPFW or AWP (?) put out.
I read her response and thought it was really encouraging, tbh given her background I wasn't surprised, but then it was wall to wall "TWAW" comments, with various added abuse of Jess.

peachgreen · 16/12/2019 22:01

It's a shame. I'm not GC myself but Jess Phillips has done so much for women in her career.

YellaHumberElla · 16/12/2019 22:04

All of which abuse coincides entirely coincidentally with Jess being widely mentioned as potential leadership material and a woman of substance.

Probably not inducing any reactions from MRAs or angry entitled misogynistic males. No. Not at all.

Wurfit · 16/12/2019 22:04

She's ablist apparently because she's voiced concern about girls being brought over the UK to marry (and basically act as carers for) disabled men. Hmm

HandsOffMyRights · 16/12/2019 22:04

She's my friend's MP. She sent a reply about not being able to attend the WPUK Westminster meeting (visiting Amnesty Hmm)

She is a supporter of 'No Outsiders' though - which endorses transgender ideology.

Yes! This! Thank you. I was heartened to read this, I follow Jess and think she has good ideas, and has demonstrated such real life support for women. If anyone were to change the crap woke stuff the LP has embraced, I think it would be Jess.
I think some support on that thread would be good

Given the difficulty of saying anything in acedemia that's even ever so slightly GC, (where I am :( ) I'm not in the least surprised she might have limited her comments, as a sitting LP MP

OP posts:
nauticant · 16/12/2019 22:09

Yes! This! Thank you.

That's from over 2 years ago though and I wonder whether she's learned her lesson now.

Wurfit · 16/12/2019 22:10

State of this

Michelleoftheresistance · 16/12/2019 22:10

Bring on the pile on. I'm all for Jess and everyone associated with Jess coming to realise how loopy that behaviour is, and that it represents a black hole of need there that nothing will ever be able to fill. That realisation creates the freedom to see it for what it is and therefore step away from it.

Catmaiden · 16/12/2019 22:13

Yes Michelle, it really does show up a lot of poor behaviour

Justhadathought · 16/12/2019 22:21

Bring on the pile on

Absolutely! Nothing radicalises more...that's what happened to Martina Navratilova and to Sharron Davies, too.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 16/12/2019 22:21

Even if I wasn't GC already I'd be really put off by the pile-on and how cultlike it looks based on how similar the things people are demanding are. Hopefully Jess will be too.

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 16/12/2019 22:23

Jess will realise now that anything at all which suggests that you care about female people is just not permitted.

Catmaiden · 16/12/2019 22:24

Apologies for not realising it was from 2 years ago, no idea why it came up on my twitter feed this morning then

OP posts:
nauticant · 16/12/2019 22:31

People have been retweeting her tweets from 2 years ago in their current tweets to call down abuse onto Jess Phillips.

Having had a look at what Labour supporters are tweeting about her she needs to know that if she stands for leader, and especially if she gets the post, she will probably end up living in a permanent shitstorm of hateful abuse from Labour members and hangers-on.

GCAcademic · 16/12/2019 22:47

It’s hilarious. They really, really don’t understand why Labour lost, do they? Do they think it’s because the voters in Blyth Valley and Sedgefield didn’t find the Labour candidate to be enough of a trans ally? Did Jeremy not announce his pronouns often enough?

NotTerfNorCis · 16/12/2019 22:51

As BAME Officer for London Young Labour, I utterly condemn Jess Phillips' overt racism. Our movement is broad, but there's no space for transphobia, anti-blackness, or the frankly weird levels of ignorant white feminism and self-obsession she exhibits.

KettlePolly · 16/12/2019 22:53

Please Jess, continue to see the bigger picture and articulate how this destroys safeguarding and puts women at risk. I'm a huge huge fangirl and hopeful she can take charge. She bloody deserves it and we would all be the better for it.

NotTerfNorCis · 16/12/2019 22:55

Looks like there's a bitter fight for the leadership and someone has summoned the troops against Jess. There are loads of tweets attacking her.

I remember when she was a target for MRAs. MRAs, TRAs... two sides, same coin.
