Why Hannah Mouncey wasn't picked for the world championships

Clymene · 08/12/2019 22:16

Mouncey says: "I can confirm that yes, I was left out of the team for the World Championships because there was a group of players within the team, supported by the team manager, who did not want me showering or using the change rooms before or after the game."

Good on those women who stood up against being forced to share showers and changing rooms with a male bodied person.

Obviously Hannah is feeling a bit aggrieved but is putting on a brave face: www.starobserver.com.au/opinion/people-will-do-whats-easy-over-whats-right-hannah-mouncey-speaks-out/190555

Oh, what a shame. The mean girls excluded her.

ICJump · 08/12/2019 22:27

Oh Hannah you ar a bellend and a bully

Marcipex · 08/12/2019 22:27

Seems like sanity to me.

RealityNotEssentialism · 08/12/2019 22:27

Good for them. I wouldn’t want to play against or shower with Hannah either.

Loopytiles · 08/12/2019 22:29

A group of players who didn’t want a cheat with unfair biological advantages in what should be a single sex competition.

DeeZastris · 08/12/2019 22:29

Also at the end Mouncey stayed 331 transwomen were murdered last year? In Australia? Seems unlikely.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 08/12/2019 22:30

Hmm I’d be surprised if the real reason wasn’t that the remainder of the team didn’t want the negative association of having someone with such an unfair weight, height and strength advantage on their side, and having any potential success undermined by that.

MrsSnippyPants · 08/12/2019 22:32

This article is full of 'statistics' that have been debunked again and again. When will some journalists do their job?

Mouncey is not excluded from sport, Mouncey has been excluded from the women's showers and changing room. Good on ya Aussie women.

ArabellaDoreenFig · 08/12/2019 22:34

I’m really glad to see that the women who didn’t want to change or shower with a male bodied person were supported by their team manager.

I think the tide is turning, and hopefully women can access sex segregated facilities/resources/sports/healthcare etc without being accused of being intolerant bigots because they don’t want male bodies in female spaces.

WrathofFaeKlop · 08/12/2019 22:38

Apparently "you learn not to care" what others think.

Well, we already know that.

MyMajesty · 08/12/2019 22:40

"the reason I’m not liked is because I told our manager, and by extension those players, exactly where he and they could go in trying to tell me where I could change and shower."

You didn't try to think how to 'be kind' as women are often told to be, then?

You didn't try to think of how you and the team could 'all get along'?

Obviously not, from the general tone of the article.

WrathofFaeKlop · 08/12/2019 22:40

I'm glad the team and coach have done what's right.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 08/12/2019 22:43

Do that individual genuinely believe they are some sort of martyr? The entitlement in that piece is just unbelievable!

RubyViolet · 08/12/2019 22:47

Big up to the women and coach 💪🏻

littlbrowndog · 08/12/2019 22:48

Did mouncey kinda even think why the teammates didn’t want mouncey in the locker room with them at any point

Ibloodylovewomen · 08/12/2019 22:54

Mouncey's sense of entitlement to women's spaces, and Mouncey's complete lack of regard for these women's privacy, rights or safety reminds of interviews I've read with INCELS. So strange.

Clymene · 08/12/2019 22:55

All I cam think is that Mouncey doesn't actually care @littlbrowndog. It's all about their rights, sod anyone else's.

ErrolTheDragon · 08/12/2019 22:55

Ironic headline “PEOPLE WILL DO WHAT’S EASY OVER WHAT’S RIGHT”

  • that's exactly what's been going on in women's sports until now.
StrangeLookingParasite · 08/12/2019 22:55

“PEOPLE WILL DO WHAT’S EASY OVER WHAT’S RIGHT”: HANNAH MOUNCEY SPEAKS OUT

Oh rly?

And the reason I’m not liked is because I told our manager, and by extension those players, exactly where he and they could go in trying to tell me where I could change and shower.

Hooray for reality.

You. Are. A. Cheat. (and a shocking risk to the other players).

AnyOldPrion · 08/12/2019 22:56

”In this same conversation, it was clear that our coach knew what she was doing would not be received well. Despite the fact that prior to selection I passed every fitness test given to me with relative ease, she assured me that she would tell people that I wasn’t fit to play rather than the actual reason just given. She even acknowledged in that conversation how well I’d done in my rehab to warrant selection if the change room issue hadn’t been a factor”

The above paragraph seems very odd to me, and particularly this “she assured me that she would tell people that I wasn’t fit to play rather than the actual reason just given”

Surely the coach would only “assure” if she assumed Mouncey would be embarrassed by the real reason and felt Mouncey would want it covered up.

If events unfolded exactly as presented by Mouncey, the coach would have no reason to offer a cover-up.

I found myself wondering whether some vital piece of information has been omitted, such as that Mouncey would have been welcomed, had Mouncey been willing to use separate facilities, but refused.

Anyone else find it odd?

WrathofFaeKlop · 08/12/2019 22:58

Mouncey et al actually believe they should be accepted into women's sports, if they're good enough.

People have been too compliant and too polite for too long.

OvaHere · 08/12/2019 22:59

Good. Right decision. Mouncey should be nowhere near women's showers, changing rooms or sports.

littlbrowndog · 08/12/2019 23:02

I dunno prion mouncey talks a lot about showering and changing in that article

But hard to say as we only see what mouncey has to say

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 08/12/2019 23:02

Absolutely correct decision!

JungeTraktoristin · 08/12/2019 23:05

Another factor is that for team sports, the dynamic and cohesion within the squad is crucially important.

The whole ‘I wasn’t picked because I’m not liked’ argument shows a fundamental misunderstanding of how team sport works - no matter how good an individual player is, if they disrupt the functioning of the team as a whole, they’re a liability not an asset.
