McKinnon name change - Dr Veronica Ivy

An attempt to escape from the past or to reinvent for the future?

I'm not sure what the public record thing is about - it's not like we don't know the name this person was born with or has now. This person is very much in the public eye so what would not having it as a matter of public record achieve?

McKinnon name change - Dr Veronica Ivy

May this follow them wherever they go:

TimeLady · 07/12/2019 07:55

I'm sure KiwiFarms will be updating their records too Grin

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 07/12/2019 08:15

Rachel McKinnon changing to Veronica Ivy has to be about avoiding searches - especially then asking about how to do it without it being part of the public record.

It will be interesting to see what's done about the author on essays etc. Does Rachel McKinnon change to Veronica Ivy on those too? Or will there be complete disassociation?

TimeLady · 07/12/2019 08:24

If I wanted to avoid a search on my name, I'd pick a surname like Smith (no offence to any Smiths)

Cuntysnark · 07/12/2019 08:28

How very peculiar.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 07/12/2019 08:30

I suspect Ronnie has another name they are using and this is just a distraction. But they are due fair privacy and we should not do anything that looks like stalking or doxxing.

No Veronica/Rachel wants to be searched, and found, but I think wants a clean searchable name: 'Veronica Ivy', which is completely disconnected from the previous, name 'Rachel McKinnon' which has all the horrible things Rachel said attached to it.

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 07/12/2019 08:32

When you announce your own namechange on twitter, and are a wannabe public figure, discussing those tweets is in no way doxxing or stalking!

TimeLady · 07/12/2019 08:35

If Dr Ivy genuinely wanted to live a quieter life, Dr Ivy could simply ban themself from using Twitter.

No-one would mind.

HandsOffMyRights · 07/12/2019 08:46

It must be exhausting to keep trying to hide who you really are.

Can you erase telling women to die in a greasefire, or posting dancing skeleton GIFS when a great young woman dies?

We all know.

FredaFrogspawn · 07/12/2019 08:53

That must be fake. RM is surely not that stupid.

JellySlice · 07/12/2019 08:57

So will 'Rachel' and 'McKinnon' now be deadnames, and will everyone who references them be horrid transphobes?

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 07/12/2019 09:04

Come to that, I thought namechanging when you have a PhD wasn't easily possible (ie you can change your name, but your doctorate stays in your old name) or is that a myth?

BarbaraStrozzi · 07/12/2019 09:12

We'll certainly for we mere proles (i.e. women) who do things like change our names on marriage, the PhD and previous publications stay in one's old name (which, feminist reasons aside, is one reason many female academics either don't change their name, or retain their original name for professional purposes).

Not sure the same rules apply to the brave and stunning, though.

And there's also the interesting option of co-authoring papers with oneself (Goldsmiths academic).

BeardedVulture · 07/12/2019 09:18

Sorry, can I just get this clarified? So Rachel McKinnon is now calling themself Veronica Ivy? That’s the cheating cyclist, author of a book on how to bullshit, who said women should “die in a grease fire” and who thought Magdalen Berns dying of cancer was hilarious? That Rachel McKinnon, now Veronica Ivy, who wants to change their name so that their Google searches come up clean?

Okay then.

Qcng · 07/12/2019 09:21

Ugh. Such a vile slippery bastard.

ARoombaOfOnesOwn · 07/12/2019 09:23

It won’t be long before the bile and rage comes back in the form of tweets. I don’t think RMK/VI can help it.

BarbaraStrozzi · 07/12/2019 09:28

Good point Rooms - it won't be long before the new persona has just as many toxic tweets associated with their timeline, because our favourite cyclist cannot help cycleself.

LangCleg · 07/12/2019 09:28

Veronica Ivy sounds like the name of a Roald Dahl character.

CranberriesChoccy · 07/12/2019 09:30

A polished turd is still a turd inside.

HandsOffMyRights · 07/12/2019 09:33

Well I shall shorten it to Ron the creeper.

SleighOfSparkliness · 07/12/2019 09:35

You can’t polish a turd, but you can roll it in glitter.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 07/12/2019 09:40

Ron the creeper

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
