Now granted, I've not fully fleshed this idea out, but in the light of @theflushedzebra pointing out that trans activists never seem to stop giving each other awards, we should have our own virtual FWR awards for services to feminism in 2019.

As the founder of this ceremony, I expect designers will be queuing up to allow me to "wear" them.

Post your nominations below, and feel free to describe how fabulous you look at the ceremony!

My nomination for best British female solo artist goes to : Maya Forstarter for grace and clarity under considerable pressure.

Thundering Dunderheid award to Layla Moran for determining gender by looking at people’s souls.

Joisanofthedales · 06/12/2019 09:47

Thank you for nominating Sarah Phillimore. I wanted to do it but had a senior moment about her name 🤐

Campervan69 · 06/12/2019 09:48

Has Sonia Poulton been mentioned? She's been doing some great investigative journalism in this area.

Mumfun · 06/12/2019 09:56

Fantastic thread.Want to reiterate all the Resister groups who have been amazing and really inspirational to me. Love the individual pictures one of them produces (not sure who) of the sheroes with a quotation like this of Maria.

Deborah and Magdalen. I will always miss them and indeed rest in power!

Dont know how all the Scottish groups interract but have found all amazing - Women Make Glasgow, Women and Girls in Scotland , ForWomen Scotland, Glasgow Resisters. Also have found the work of MurrayBlackburn Mackenzie and their campaigning generally to be inspiring

littlbrowndog for her ability to both get to the heart of the matter and make me laugh in one sentence.

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 06/12/2019 09:58

The marvellous Leeds Spinners for the beautiful banners, including the one that inspired my user name.

Clymene · 06/12/2019 10:06

Sandy Draws Badly for skewering the pomposity and nonsense so brilliantly

MonsteraCheeseplant · 06/12/2019 10:14

I'm wondering if we can pay some kind of homage to Dittany, founding member of MN feminism? Gone(off MN) but not forgotten.

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 06/12/2019 10:19

Definitely Monstera. She and Riven were directly responsible for my questioning of my libfem stance. I came on here talking about cis privilege once upon a time...

Needmoresleep · 06/12/2019 10:20

Sanchez Manning of the Mail on Sunday should get at least an honourable mention. She was putting together some really good articles at a point when no one else would touch the subject.

I would also like to see recognition for people like Rose of Dawn, Fion Orlander and Miranda, detransitioners like Charlie, and intersex advocates like MRKHvoice, who all, from different perspectives, bravely tell their truth and remind us that TRAs do not represent everyone.

Needmoresleep · 06/12/2019 10:27

Do we have David TC Davies MP on the list. Perhaps as the person least likely to be a GC hero. Hosted the WPUK meeting in Parliament when Millwall FC banned them, raised parliament questions and the infamous debate (where Layla Moran claimed to see into peoples souls), and joined feminists outside the Linda and Venice trial. As the ONLY MP to raise his head above the parapet he had a rough ride including complaints, but carried on with dignity.

ChattyLion · 06/12/2019 10:57

Good call. DTCD MP for a More Balls than Millwall award, along with the women bravely organising the meetings and all those who went. Glitterball

MsMcWibble · 06/12/2019 11:16

All of the above - plus I'd like a special mention for @Ripx4nutmeg on twitter. Sterling work every day pulling together important info. If I want to catch up I go to her first.
Also - has JL been mentioned? The woman who writes the weekly updates that Glinner posts?

ThePankhurstConnection · 06/12/2019 11:52

Lifetime achievement award to Magdalen Berns, please.

Yes.

Joan McAlpine for the sterling work she is doing.

All the women organising For Women Scotland for their campaigning - not only those with their names out there but the many women working diligently behind the scenes. I commend and thank all of you, you give me hope.

Janice Turner, Julie Bindel, and other journalists for putting it out there in to the mainstream.

Posie for dauntlessness (and for that TV interview which amused me so much).

ALL the women of MN who talk, research and share information, I appreciate all of you.

NoWittyUserName · 06/12/2019 12:43

Sorry if these already mentioned upthread, but:

Allison Bailey for spearheading the LGB Alliance

Richard Garside of the Centre for Crime and Justice Studies, consistently speaks up on Twitter on crime against women, academic freedom of speech for women, and the general clash of rights we all know so well

TheTinselrati · 06/12/2019 13:43

%fab thread & amazing nominations. I know who 99% of these people are and I'll find out about the rest. 2019 is ending on a much more positive note that it started - thank you to all the nominees.

I'll nominate "Get the L Out" for the Most Fabulous Direct Action Award

Tereskova · 06/12/2019 14:13

Julia Long. She was fighting this shit way before many of us was even aware.

What about Caroline Farriw who does such an important job at raising awareness and, by being so vindictively treated, helps shine a light on the vile behaviour of the activists .

TheCuriousMonkey · 06/12/2019 16:45

Emma Barnett, who interviewed Jo Swinson on Woman's Hour this morning.

KeithPartridge · 06/12/2019 16:53

So many fantastic women. Off topic somewhat but does anyone remember Dittany from years back? She brought so many women to feminism. Including myself. She was life changing. I think a lot of women fighting this latest misogyny today are here because of her.

KeithPartridge · 06/12/2019 16:55

Oops Monstera just saw your post! Totally agree.

WrathofFaeKlop · 06/12/2019 16:55

Can we have a Ratners award for stupidity in business please.

I nominate M&S for spectacular timing for the Christmas rush.

KeithPartridge · 06/12/2019 16:57

Lol yes...had hundreds of pounds worth of gifts sitting in an online basket for M&S that never got checked out.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 06/12/2019 17:31

The Girl Guides would win if they counted as a business, but they don't so M&S it is! And Centerparks win the "not actively trying to piss off your core customers" award.
