Now granted, I've not fully fleshed this idea out, but in the light of @theflushedzebra pointing out that trans activists never seem to stop giving each other awards, we should have our own virtual FWR awards for services to feminism in 2019.

As the founder of this ceremony, I expect designers will be queuing up to allow me to "wear" them.

Post your nominations below, and feel free to describe how fabulous you look at the ceremony!

My nomination for best British female solo artist goes to : Maya Forstarter for grace and clarity under considerable pressure.

Allison Bailey for being a founder member of LGB Alliance and the hassle she is receiving as a result.

Cuntysnark · 07/12/2019 20:20

Fiona Broadfoot. She spoke at Filia and reduced me to tears. A brave fearless woman.

witchesaremysisters · 07/12/2019 20:25

So many wonderful women mentioned. Would also like it if we could do a quick shout out for all the invisible women, the lurkers who might be too scared to post, the women behind the scenes who organise the meetings/ logistics/ venues/ women’s safety, every woman who donates what she can to feminist causes or shares a petition, etc.

I really am in awe of all of you. Flowers

jamrollyolly · 07/12/2019 20:26

What a fantastic thread! Has anyone nominated the Scottish teen who got expelled for stating there are only two sexes?

drspouse · 07/12/2019 20:55

No, but he needs a Boys section!

Voice0fReason · 07/12/2019 22:49

Just so many amazing women to choose from I want there to be lots of categories!

Maya, Nic, Sharron, Martina, Janice, Jean, Joanna, Julie, Emma, Kathleen.... I could go on and on and on

jamrollyolly · 08/12/2019 00:15

Drs the Making mothers proud award?

Creepster · 08/12/2019 01:06

There needs to be an I Am Spartacus award.

bettybeans · 08/12/2019 02:41

This is wonderful. What a tonic.
There's no reason this couldn't be a zero (well, minimal) cost online/digital award or acknowledgement thing you know. A little boost for the women, men, girls and boys who put themselves on the line for the rest of us. There's no reason we couldn't find a way of giving them all a little ♥️ of appreciation.

Charlie, Thomasin - think they've been mentioned but they really touched my heart this past year. Outstanding bravery.

The doctors and psychs from Tavistock who spoke out.

Joanna Cherry. Joan McAlpine. Victoria Hood. Ruth Maguire. James Dornan. Alison Moyet. Marc Almond. Daley Thompson. LGB Alliance. Simon Fanshawe. Bev Jackson. Rose of Dawn. Fionne. Gina Davidson. Mandy Rhodes. James Kirkup. Graham Linehan. Emily Maitlis. Emma Barnett. Hadley Freeman. Julie fucking Bindel. Lucy Hunter Blackburn. Kath Murray. Lisa Mackenzie. Susan Smith. Danielle Waterman. Rupert Cox. Emma Hilton. JCJ. Neale Hanvey. Karen Ingala Smith. Jean Hatchet. Maya Forstater. Anya Palmer. Harry Miller.

The organisers of all the party Women's Pledges.

International friends like Ani O'Brien, goinglikeelsie, Anna Slatz, Meghan Murphy, GNC centric, Andreia Noble

Podcasters like Benjamin Boyce. What an effort to examine the issues.

The various Lesbian groups who put themselves in the firing line this year. Lesbian Strength springs to mind.

WPUK. ForWomenScot. FPW. Women & Girls Scot.

Almost too many to think of or mention. This is good. Great, even. This is progress.

drspouse · 08/12/2019 09:16

jamroll good call.

xxyzz · 08/12/2019 09:46

Suggest that this is set up. Given that women (and allies) have shown they are very happy to pay for tickets and travel to attend various feminist speakers over the last year, even in the face of threats, I imagine that if the ticket price was bumped slightly to allow for prizes (and maybe food? drink?), then there is no reason why this can't be an actual event, with copious press releases and hopefully coverage in the media, to highlight the strength of the movement.

Courage calls to courage and all that. Will help lurkers and waverers to feel they are not alone and feminism is not a minority view or anything you need to hide away.

And frankly all these amazing women deserve public thanks from all of us.

Agree this thread is very cheering as it's easy to forget how very many brave women (and some male allies) there are who have been putting their heads above the parapet for all our sakes. There are actually loads there!

Thank you Flowers

TinselAngel · 08/12/2019 10:16

I am happy for somebody to steal my idea and arrange it, as long as I'm invited.

Who was it behind the scenes at the House of Commons, who offered up a conference space there after Millwall FC were too scared to host it? Due to threats of violence from TRAs.

Whoever that was deserves a mention.

“More Balls than Millwall”

Needmoresleep · 08/12/2019 16:14

Posted up thread. David TC Davies MP. An unlikely hero but one nonetheless, using parliamentary processes to have a debate, ask questions and so on.

Needmoresleep · 08/12/2019 16:18

The breadth and diversity of support on this issue has been impressive. Safeguarding, free speech etc are issues everyone should be concerned about, regardless of politics or background.

Perhaps there is scope even for a (dis) honourable mention for Null and his kiwi-farmers. In particular their keeping of the Yaniv archive.

RuffleCrow · 08/12/2019 16:21

Loving this thread. I'm sorry to say i didn't know she'd died. Last i heard she was going into palliative care. Sad

BoreOfWhabylon · 08/12/2019 19:54

Late nomination for the Man Fridays, for bringing the whole nonsense to the attention of the wider public.

MrsFogi · 10/12/2019 00:04

I would definitely to pay to come along to this glitzy awards ceremony - I've been looking for an occasion to get a glamorous long gown for ages!

ErrolTheDragon · 10/12/2019 10:32

I think we need to add 'Anna from Warwickshire'!

ErrolTheDragon · 10/12/2019 10:33

If she's shy she can phone in to accept her prize, obviously.Grin

WomanBornNotWorn · 10/12/2019 16:40

First thoughts:

@glinner @goinglikeelsie

Sharron Davies Martina Navratilova etc

The organisers, speakers, security guards and attendees at the Brighton WPUK meeting (definitely NOT THE POLICE OFFICERS)

James Kirkup

Maya Forstater

The lawyers representing the Canadian waxing ladies

Rachel Rooney & Jessica Ahlberg, the writer & illustrator of My Body Is Me

The athletes who came second, third & fourth after the golds got swiped

Whoever decided to 'not select' Hannah Mouncey

Uncompromisingwoman · 10/12/2019 17:26

Has Andrew Gilligan's name appeared anywhere? Another Times journalist who was instrumental in getting this publicised in the early days.

WomanBornNotWorn · 10/12/2019 23:30

Another suggestion for the award - it would make a lovely pendant

WomanBornNotWorn · 10/12/2019 23:33
