I really have to impress on everyone just how important it is to get out and vote Labour. The Tories have done nothing for anyone other than their rich buddies, and our present PM is a sexist bigot. Please vote Labour to save the NHS. Please.

Your individual Labour MP may be fine, Mustard. There are people within Labour who know this stuff is dangerous, it's just getting the party to listen to them that's the problem.

Michelleoftheresistance · 10/12/2019 21:49

My local Labour candidate is a lovely bloke who genuinely cares about the area, has done a lot of very good things for the community, is the best potential MP this area has seen in years. If he was independent I'd vote for him like a shot. But he stands for Momentum and Labour and the whole 9 yards of ending women. There will be no protections for women. There'll be no such thing as women. Anything that implies that biological females can be grouped into any class of anything that males aren't front and centre of will be stamped out. That's the focus of the greatest anger: that there is some part of woman that can be held apart just for females.

Birdsfoottrefoil · 10/12/2019 22:33

I want my Labour MP in. But I will send her an email off the back of this thread asking what provisions are in place to protect the women of her constituency should self-ID become law

Be careful how she answers. Under the labour manifesto the pledge to protect single sex spaces which sound good except they also pledge to allow anyone to choose what sex they are. Hence ‘single sex spaces’ becomes meaningless.

LangCleg · 10/12/2019 22:39

But I will send her an email off the back of this thread asking what provisions are in place to protect the women of her constituency should self-ID become law

The answer is none. Because a) the exclusion bar is higher for GRC holders than non-GRC holders and they plan to greatly increase the number of GRC holders by introducing self-ID, and b) identity documents (passports, driving licences etc) are already self-ID, it's illegal to ask to see a GRC and so providers won't be able to implement exemptions other than by an honour system - and surely even you can see that an honour system is a big fat safeguarding FAIL.

Your prospective MP will not tell you this. But that's the truth.

Fucking hell. Wish I’d known about the extent of this sooner, not the fecking day before the election. I can’t not vote for my Labour MP, she has done so so much for the most vulnerable in my constituency. I am very active within the Labour Party for her, so I know she won’t dismiss my concerns, she will discuss with me. Our current Tory MP is an awful human who wouldn’t protect women of it was the last thing she did.

SingingLily · 11/12/2019 08:07

You must vote as you think best, MustardScreams.

LangCleg laid it out very clearly in her post of 22.39 last night so you know what you are voting for now. You've made your choice.

I'm not happy with your choice, any more than you are with mine. However, this is a democracy and this is your choice. I respect that even if I don't agree with it.

I am voting for the only option available to me to stop Self ID.

Respect my choice.

EmpressLesbianInChair · 11/12/2019 08:11

Fair play to MustardScreams for listening & engaging.

MustardScreams · 11/12/2019 08:11

@SingingLily my distaste at the Tories isn’t personally directed against you. I DO respect your choice, especially now I know exactly why you’re voting that way. I respect anyone that gets out and votes tomorrow, it is so important.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 11/12/2019 08:16

Mustard: "Fucking hell. Wish I’d known about the extent of this sooner, not the fecking day before the election"

Can you see why so many women are so utterly furious now?

Your tone has changed quite a bit from the first postings where you were convinced "someone" would make sure things were safeguarded, to now. Do we have a real-time peaker in our midst? Grin

I'd be very interested to hear what comes of your discussions with your Labour MP. Especially if she comes out as a full-on TWAW, self-id-endorsing type.

MustardScreams · 11/12/2019 08:19

Well I did think there would be safeguarding in place! I absolutely did not understand the extent of what self-ID would involve. I’m really quite angry at myself for not taking the time to do in-depth research before the election, and pulled my MP up on this months ago.

TimeLady · 11/12/2019 08:19

Mustardscreams

Maybe you could direct your Labour candidate and any other supporters towards these MN boards too so that those with some influence within the party can understand women's concerns first hand? This FWR one is anything but a Tory support group.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 11/12/2019 08:39

Mustard "I’m really quite angry at myself for not taking the time to do in-depth research before the election, and pulled my MP up on this months ago."*

You aren't the first and you wont be the last. This has been a very carefully calculated campaign to sneak in outrageous demands under cover of more palatable soundbites and catchy slogans, and by casting nasty slurs against anyone who speaks up otherwise. Because the TRAs know full well the public won't stand for what they want- they're just hoping it'll be too late to change anything.

I'm glad you had the grace to come back and say what you have though Flowers

LangCleg · 11/12/2019 08:46

Mustardscreams

Don't think I take any pleasure in this. The Labour Party has seen more than two decades worth of membership subs from me. I've knocked on doors for it at a dozen elections. My feminism is of the Engels variety.

It's not me letting Labour down: it's Labour letting not just me, but all women and children, down.

It's not like I wouldn't give my right arm for it to be otherwise. But it ain't.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 11/12/2019 08:56

And me also. My anger towards Labour is the anger you feel towards someone who you once cared for who has let you down very badly and with full awareness of the way their decisions will cause you harm.

Floisme · 11/12/2019 08:58

Mustardscreams you have warmed my cold, old heart. Thank you for listening and also for coming back. A lot of people wouldn't.

Hope you stick around. Once you're up to speed with the 'Break it down for me,' thread there's one called 'How Biological Sex was Silenced' (or something similar) which I'm finding fascinating.
The way this has been introduced under the radar is hair raising - there was also a government consultation on self ID last year, the results of which have still not been published.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 11/12/2019 09:08

Mustard, seeing your dawning horror as you realized what's been happening has reminded me of why I decided to come back to MN and keep fighting to bring all of this to people's attention before it was too late. Each one, teach one, as the old saying goes - the people pushing this bollocks were relying on their ability to do so without the general public noticing. I don't think they should be allowed to do that.

MustardScreams · 11/12/2019 09:19

I’m quite glad I came on to be uppity about Tories now (though sorry for being absolutely hideous at the start, not ok). Because I would still be living in my little Labour bubble believing they always put women first.

I’m still getting my head around the self-ID thing. It just doesn’t make any fucking sense. My priority first and foremost is to make sure women don’t suffer, hence my fury at voting Tory.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 11/12/2019 09:20

I'd get comfy if I were you Mustard, you're going to be here quite a while...

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 11/12/2019 09:26

Right now there is no party prioritizing women. Not a single bloody one. We should all be angry about that.

TimeLady · 11/12/2019 09:28

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linda_Bellos

Have a read of this, Mustard if you want to see how Labour treats its own uppity women

In April 2018, Bellos was interviewed under caution by the police after stating that she would "thump" transgender activists if approached by them, whom she referred to as "bastards", in the wake of alleged attacks[6] on radical feminist advocates who argue that they were targeted for their opposition to transgender activism. She was quoted as saying "I am quite prepared to threaten violence because it seems to me politically what they are seeking to do is piss on women"[7], later stating that she was unaware her words were being livestreamed online and reaffirming that she would "defend [herself] if attack

ThePurported · 11/12/2019 09:29

Respect, Mustard Brew

SingingLily I would do exactly the same as you, and a couple of years ago I would have voted for a block of wood with a Lib Dem rosette stuck onto it just to get rid of the Tories!

TowelNumber42 · 11/12/2019 09:32

Oh mustard get your steel trousers on because if you are shocked by what you are discovering here then you are in for a hell of a shock when you try to talk about this sensibly within your party with your mates, especially any momentum beardy men and middle class privileged young women. Yikes.

It's a shocker to discover that apparently you are a right wing gay hating nazi who should be punished just for asking politely if maybe just maybe we need to talk about the impact of self id on women in prisons.

StandUpStraight · 11/12/2019 09:45

Yep, absolute respect, mustard. And good luck with those conversations. As towel says, you’re in for a bumpy and infuriating ride.

SingingLily · 11/12/2019 09:45

Thank you, ThePurported.

As I've said previously on the other thread I referred to, deciding which party to vote for this time is like playing 4D chess. You have to decide what your priorities are and make sacrifices about the rest. Or fight for them another day.

I'll fight for the rest another day.
