Thread 2!

OP posts:
FloralBunting · 22/11/2019 10:38

He posted a screenshot of the teensu little Labour manifesto statement about protected single sex provision and called it a 'dogwhistle nod and a wink to T*rfs'.

When he was pulled up on using a slur, he started back peddling saying he didn't know it was derogatory and he didn't mean it in a derogatory way. And eventually he said he wants to have a constructive debate and wouldn't throw around terms which weren't helpful. Last I saw before going to bed, he was complaining about ths emotional effects of lots of people on Twitter pointing out and being angry that he had used a sexist slur, and I imagine has protected his tweets to lick his wounds for a bit.

Basically, he delighted in using a slur, and when he got ratioed for doing so, tried to pretend he thought it was a neutral term which is complete BS, as can be seen from the context of his first critical comment. And now he's very sad, can mummy please come and give him a biscuit.

ThePurported · 22/11/2019 10:53

Putting aside whether terf is a slur, does James Baker actually believe that talking about women's single-sex services can only be a dog whistle?
Give me strength.

Waterl00 · 22/11/2019 10:55

talking about women's single-sex services can only be a dog whistle?

Exactly, that is just as disgusting as t--f, frankly. James really can't see women as fully human can he?

MForstater · 22/11/2019 11:29

I have put all the tweets from the case (and @PygmyHippoBob 's live mumsnetting Grin) into a single long run here, with some stage directions and bits of evidence so that it makes more sense of what was being looked at

medium.com/@MForstater/live-tweets-from-the-tribunal-5bd28f8e39c1

I have also put my main witness statement up here:

medium.com/@MForstater/claimants-witness-statement-abe3e8073b41 (its loooong....)

with hyperlinks to the cannon of gender critical writings that it points the judge to.

Now we wait for his judgment ..... it could be soon or it could be in January.

FloralBunting · 22/11/2019 11:34

I so don't want the judges in these cases to be like Aslan - "I call all times soon".

Which to be fair, I do actually use with my kids when they are pestering me...

Datun · 22/11/2019 12:05

Thanks maya, very useful.

LangCleg · 22/11/2019 12:23

Thanks Maya.

I hope it's soon. So unfair to keep you hanging on.

ShagMeRiggins · 22/11/2019 13:06

And now he's very sad, can mummy please come and give him a biscuit.

ErrolTheDragon · 22/11/2019 13:41

Thanks zebra er al.

GrinitchSpinach · 22/11/2019 14:41

Thank you, Maya! Star Star Star

Birdsfoottrefoil · 22/11/2019 15:02

A Lib Dem candidate has locked his twitter during an election campaign?!

Birdsfoottrefoil · 22/11/2019 15:02

Thanks Maya

TruthOnTrial · 22/11/2019 19:07

I only know what you’ve told me about self-ID Confused

Maya all power to you.

Am I alone in thinking this test case is in the wrong sphere, given its potential for far reaching implications?

That many topics under discussion are without specialist evidence?

Its reminding me of the test case of belief in Santa Claus, and that its all about whether enough people believe in it Confused

From what I've read Maya is doing a great job of presenting her position, demonstrating lack of phobia; not the case for the Rs team LE not even claiming to know anything about self ID. Confused

Rs team rude, insulting, and heckling with their repeating of statements and avoidance of direct q's.

Why is this law not being tested higher up as discrimination. I understand that this is (may be) an employment matter, but its implications are far reaching for future rights of women and girls.

It will give many recourse to compensation from constructive/wrongful dismissal if maya wins.

Keeping everything crossed. Amazing access to coverage, and the attempts to shut down are clear and acknowledged by the judge.

Bit farsical the claim to 'vulnerable' witnesses when those witnesses showcase themselves, very vocally. All very contradictory.

SophoclesTheFox · 22/11/2019 20:07

Am late to the party and just catching up now- all power to you Maya and THANK YOU!

Does anyone have any good articles summing this up, please?

SophoclesTheFox · 22/11/2019 20:10

Whoops, I have started on the threadreader now instead of needily asking you all to do my work for me Grin

KatieAlcock · 22/11/2019 20:13

My case, which will be in county court, will be a court of precedent. But it is crucial for my case what the findings are in Maya's case, though it isn't officially a court of precedent.
Which reminds me, my supporters need a geeky legal update.

GrinitchSpinach · 22/11/2019 20:34

Katie, do you have a date for court? I confess I am losing track with all of these cases going on!

KatieAlcock · 22/11/2019 20:51

No, we don't yet.
Just a big big hole!

Needmoresleep · 22/11/2019 20:53

More digging required?

KatieAlcock · 22/11/2019 21:01

Loooaaads more.

TruthOnTrial · 22/11/2019 21:06

Testing science as a belief over individual psychological l D, is whats beyond belief.

The case of white is black does seem very relevant. Go Maya!

Does the law support us identifying as anything we want now? As in the typist scenario where its clear to see you're not a typist even though you say you are.

ChattyLion · 22/11/2019 21:06

Katie, hope your legal case is coming along nicely. Flowers

TruthOnTrial · 22/11/2019 21:08

Hilarious the comment by rc that you can't know a persons sex unless you were in the room when that person was born.

How can this sort of nonsense be heard without question, without it completely undermining their validity in any of their assertions.

TruthOnTrial · 22/11/2019 21:10

Oodles of luck and strength to you too Katie Flowers

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 22/11/2019 21:10

The reason so many of our male lefty comrades (and the LibDems) started using T&RF in the first place was that it's a politically acceptable way to be misogynistic. Note who it's most often aimed at, or assumed to be - lesbians, older women. A big part of what's being implied by that terms has always been "you are of no use to my penis therefore why should I care what you think?" - it's not exactly subtle in terms of how it's deployed.
