Thread 2!

OP posts:
Creepster · 20/11/2019 20:01

Basically, if someone complains, the comment gets deleted, and possibly a strike issued (why and when has never been explained). Whether or not the complaint is reasonable seems not to matter.

I wouldn't mind the heavy handed moderation so much if it were not one directional as described in the special rules. When I reported abusive comments by people who cannot be designated I was often told it is not a violation of the guidelines when they do it.

Michelleoftheresistance · 20/11/2019 20:02

"Like buttons" would end up being another aspect of MN to game and would be gamed most effectively by obsessives.

I've seen that on other forums. Also the mods dealing with constant wailing about feeling threatened by the idea of votes implying that some posts are better than others and theirs maybe not being liked as much which harms their confidence (I am honestly not making this up and they were adults), creating popularity cliques that they feel threatened by the idea of existing and getting left out of which harms their confidence and wellbeing and feelings of inclusion..... It was exhausting.

Qcng Reinstate TheBewilderness

She was not banned. She was asked to leave by MNHQ because her "sarcasm created a hostile work environment" for the mods.

FloralBunting · 20/11/2019 20:08

The only places I've seen that have used like buttons successfully are places where no one is a total dickhead. As it happens, those places are specifically vetted female only spaces, but that's by the by as women, while they cannot have dicks, can sometimes be dicks.

But yeah, given that most public fora are open to dicks, which is just a fact of life, I think reaction buttons are just another tool for prats to fuck with.

PurpleHoodie · 20/11/2019 20:16

'Like' button.

No likely.

NotBadConsidering · 20/11/2019 20:40

Any updates from today?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 20/11/2019 21:34

I guess in the current climate, and with the law being used as an enforcement weapon for controlling bullies I can't blame MNHQ for being cautious, but the monitors need more ignoring, they should all have been ignored much more as children tbh.

Don't spoil your kids or they'll grow up to be people who obsessively follow other people around on the internet screaming "how dare you say that?" with their finger over the report button?

(Again, hold that reporting finger steady, watchers, many of the people doing this are not trans in any way. In fact the best off the internet example so far would be Harrop versus Posie on morning TV.)

NeurotrashWarrior · 20/11/2019 21:43

You fucking what?! I thought she was banned. How the heck did that work?! Confused

PencilsInSpace · 20/11/2019 21:51

From one of @legalfeminist's tweets - this is during closing arguments by the respondent (employer):

MF's views are incompatible with human dignity because they suggest trans people with a GRC are living a deception.

twitter.com/legalfeminist/status/1196753490263064577

Is it 'incompatible with human dignity' to have the view that there is no god and nobody has a soul? Does this suggest christians, jews, muslims bla bla 'are living a deception'?

I don't think the respondents have properly got the hang of 'religion or belief' as a protected characteristic. It doesn't work like that. We are not required to agree with someone else's beliefs in order to not discriminate against them because of those beliefs.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 20/11/2019 21:56

I'm an atheist. Who has religious relatives. Were they meant to be hauling me into a tribunal?

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 20/11/2019 22:01

A real shame

Ive got nothin’ if i dont have sarcasm

FloralBunting · 20/11/2019 22:08

Yes. The 1500s are so in right now.

AutumnCrow · 20/11/2019 22:20

MF's views are incompatible with human dignity because they suggest trans people with a GRC are living a deception

Yes, let's just replace some beliefs in that sentence.

A.N.Other's atheist views are incompatible with human dignity because they suggest Christians with a baptism certificate are living a deception

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 20/11/2019 22:23

Should we all be investing in mole removal services? You know, just in case anyone decides to check us for witch marks.

FloralBunting · 20/11/2019 22:26

I have quite a lot of herbs in the cupboard and a cat. This could get tricky.

I should probably hide my Book of Shadows.

Akire · 20/11/2019 22:27

Spent about 3h reading both threads. I’ve seen her name around but had no idea. Was confused at first because thought no can’t be because she said you can’t change physical sex and been dragged to court. Must not be understanding it.....alas. Is it on radio or online? Not be able pick up quite where.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 20/11/2019 22:27

I see you that and I raise you the fact that my cat is mostly black!

ScapaFlo · 20/11/2019 22:39

My cat is the blackest black cat. Even t'white bits are black Grin

theflushedzebra · 20/11/2019 22:40

I want everyone back who was axed via the strikes system. We knew this would happen - we said it would Good feminists, good women were lost. Including the Bewilderness, Posie, and so many more.

Incidentally, posie was only banned because of her posts about the NSPCC and their failed webchat here - when they wouldn't answer our questions. How crap is that? Posie holds a children's charity to task for that nonsense and gets banned Hmm

theflushedzebra · 20/11/2019 22:40

And I beat you all - I have 2 black cats Grin

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 20/11/2019 22:41

Remind me if that was before or after Wanking Rubber Suit NSPCC Man?

LangCleg · 20/11/2019 22:46

MaryZ went in the live bannings over Stella Creasy, IIRC.

Contemporaneous thread (and there are many more not mentioned in it)

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3366728-Missing-in-Action?pg=1

So many of us were disappearing that we had a daily "roll call" thread for a while.

I miss Pratchet - gone for resurrecting Spartacus, I think.

FloralBunting · 20/11/2019 22:49

Posie went Waaay before rubberwank man.

#PosieWasRight

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 20/11/2019 22:52

"But the NSPCC are a very respected org that totally knows what's best, how dare anyone suggest otherwise?"

(Points at their initial statements about Rubber Wanking Man)

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 20/11/2019 22:54

That's it. It was Stella Creasey. Was trying to remember. Thanks.

I still can't believe they banned Maryz. She was here when this were all dinosaurs, far as the eye could see.
