Excellent article. She nails it. Thank you for sharing.

FilthyBiscuit · 13/11/2019 18:18

Thanks from me too Jenni. This needs to be said.

The Lib Dems’ Jo Swinson claims anyone questioning trans rights is challenging human rights; this week her party told a voter who doesn’t believe that humans can change biological sex that they should vote elsewhere.

I didn't know she had said this, but thanks because I will do just that.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 13/11/2019 18:20

That is an excellent article in terms of women's rights.

I would like to see similar about the dereliction of duty towards children by the political class.

Needmoresleep · 13/11/2019 18:22

Great article. I note from her bio that she used to write for the Guardian.

Redshoeblueshoe · 13/11/2019 18:22

Excellent thanks for sharing

AnotherNightWatering · 13/11/2019 18:24

I didn't know she had said this

The LibDem quote originated in Mumsnet
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3737757-Lib-Dems-actively-deterring-GC-women

and was subsequently quoted in another Times article quoted here

HavelockVetinari · 13/11/2019 18:26

Spot on!

BarbaraStrozzi · 13/11/2019 18:28

Wow, that article pulls no punches.

Ohwhatatangledwebweweave · 13/11/2019 18:29

Thanks for link Grin. Good article, wonder how long before Jenni is vilified for her bravery.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 13/11/2019 18:33

Wow. It's quite powerful seeing it all laid out so clearly and calmly, isn't it?

MrsSnippyPants · 13/11/2019 18:34

Wow. Telling it exactly as it is with no hedging of bets. Love it. Thanks OP.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 13/11/2019 18:36

what a brilliant article, spot on

and yes, let's hear about how politicians are too scared to act on the issue of experimental drugs being used on children

who the actual fuckity fuck am I going to vote for?

CeridwenTheWitch · 13/11/2019 18:36

There's two threads about this, I just wrote this on the other one so I'll share it here too:

Brilliant brilliant article!! I'm so happy to read this! Well done to Jenni Russel and well done to the Times. She covered so much of what has been happening and the public needs to know.

StandUpStraight · 13/11/2019 18:37

scrimshaw it is very powerfully written. Her colleague Alice Thompson, who wrote an execrable article today defending no-platforming at universities, could learn a few things from Jenni.

Bloody brilliant article which summarises how many of us “Terfs” and “transphobics “ feel. Add in trans women taking part in, and winning, womens’s sporting events and you have the whole, twisted picture.

CriticalCondition · 13/11/2019 18:38

I wish it mentioned Stonewall's part in the regulatory and institutional capture.

But perhaps that's a whole other article...

TinselAngel · 13/11/2019 18:40

Wow. What a brilliant article.

YourOpinionIsNoted · 13/11/2019 18:42

Amazing article. Thank you Jenni.

Loopytiles · 13/11/2019 18:44

Good article.

RoyalCorgi · 13/11/2019 18:48

Am so pleased to see this. Have always admired Jenni Russell and it's great to see her putting the case so clearly and forcefully.

There was a time when this was the kind of article that the Guardian would have carried. Once again, the Times running a piece of this quality highlights their absolutely shameful silence.

Datun · 13/11/2019 18:50

Finally. The gloves are off.

AlunWynsKnee · 13/11/2019 19:02

Very clear piece. Good job.

RuffleCrow · 13/11/2019 19:11

Nice one. I'm actually considering voting tory because as she points out they're the only ones willing to admit they got self-id wrong. However, defacto self-id through regulation capture has gone through the roof on their watch, so maybe not. It would be like cutting off my nose to spite my face anyway.

Bezalelle · 13/11/2019 19:15

Good piece. I particularly appreciate the way she differentiates between "genuine" transsexuals and TRAs:

"There is an equal tension within the trans rights movement between those people who have genuine gender dysphoria and wish to live as the opposite sex and those activists who are using the cover of trans rights and self-ID to intimidate, taunt, assault and get access to women in their most private and vulnerable spaces. "
