Just seen marks xmas ad on TV. Even if wasn’t boycotting them oh my... it’s like someone dragging nails down chalkboard. Obviously I’m in no way hip but it’s muted from now on.

Michelleoftheresistance · 11/11/2019 15:39

I'll certainly run straight to JL to fill the M&S hole if confirmed, but I'm getting the vibe that nothing's official or been properly shared, but you tell anyone who kicks off whatever they want to hear and hope they go away and don't cause trouble. And hope to goodness that the inevitable safeguarding disasters don't happen when you're on shift.

jhuizinga · 11/11/2019 15:41

I bought some very nice Christmas things this morning at Laura Ashley (with a 30% discount) which I would normally have bought from Marks. The upside to avoiding M&S is finding out that there are plenty of other retailers out there.

CeridwenTheWitch · 11/11/2019 15:46

Having seen M&S's advert, it's clear they are targeting a much younger demographic than their usual shopper. That also explains why they have scrapped single sex facilities because the TWAW cult is a cult of the youth.

I found the advert really cringeworthy, will absolutely be avoiding the shop entirely now.

FadingStar · 11/11/2019 15:48

Sigh...I have almost £200 worth of Christmas presents for my daughters sitting in an online basket for M&S, and that was just the start. Ah well. The best present I can give my girls is to fight for their rights as human beings. So off to John Lewis I go.

Indeed. My mum text me earlier to say she had a 20% off voucher for M&S if I wanted for my Christmas shopping. I’d rather pay full price somewhere that values women’s safety so I graciously declined.

Mine too, absolutely! I’m pinching that line. My children’s Christmas present this year is to fight for their sex based rights and protections. And if M&S aren’t selling that to me, I’ll go elsewhere.

SirVixofVixHall · 11/11/2019 16:08

Same.

TimeLady · 11/11/2019 17:53

I would be wary about JL until they confirm that they really mean all males will be banned from the women's changing rooms; if those wearing lippie and a wig are still going to be allowed in because they are in fact now classified by JL as women (which is what M&S is doing), that's still not acceptable. We need to pin them down on their definition of 'men' and 'women'.

Any statement needs to be unambiguous otherwise it will be impossible to police, and that's not fair on the shop floor staff.

Akire · 11/11/2019 17:58

JL do sound like they are using own on the ground staff to decide. So any whiff of any suspect intentions they are not obliged just to say a blanket yes. Of course asking staff to make decisions is also a mine filed for being Phobic so I say it again a third space is needed.

Men have had hundreds of years in “modern society” to show they can be trusted, sadly we still need protection for good reasons.

SirVixofVixHall · 11/11/2019 18:20

I also feel distrustful enough to think that shops might not nail their colours to the mast until after Christmas and the sales, so as not to lose all the shoppers at this crucial point.

We need to keep asking them, via email, Twitter and Facebook until they answer us.

There is a huge number of male reviews for M&S knickers, often more than those left by female reviewers. Marks & Spencer cannot be unaware of the thrill found by men in wearing female underwear and then proclaiming their enjoyment online. This is just one of the many examples...

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 11/11/2019 18:31

Of course they know - when you add a review it has to be ‘passed’ before they put it on their site. So they must think it’s ok.

theflushedzebra · 11/11/2019 18:39

HALF of those reviews are from males.

Mummyoflittledragon · 11/11/2019 18:44

Omg I’m horrified. 😩

SirVixofVixHall · 11/11/2019 18:46

😮😮😮😮😮😮 I have never before looked at the sex of the person leaving a knicker review.
I wanted a vintagey swimsuit and looked at this one on Amazon. Only one reviewer had thoughtfully left pictures too..

Two reviews from lingerie customers who class themselves as male:

“Very comfortable and a touch revealing too. Great fit even though not exactly designed for what I have to fit in it but holds everthing well and in comfort in shorts or jeans”

And another

“Rosie has done it again! This pair of knickers is comfortable, yet sexy! The front covers everything and keeps me in place, there is good stretch in the sides and the lace back is very pretty and accentuates my curves.”

Seems there are LOTS of male M&S customers who really, really like talking about these particular garments in detail.

Coatandhat · 11/11/2019 18:51

The first time I noticed a male review I naively thought it was a mistake but you only have to see the sheer number of them to know it isn't. I have no interest in knowing how knickers fit a male frame and found it very irritating but since I'm no longer buying from M&S, at least I'm spared that.

theflushedzebra · 11/11/2019 18:54

Can I just EMPHASISE to the moderators that the men leaving these reviews are identifying as male on the M&S website.

They are NOT transwomen - they are men, males.

I believe on MN feminism board, we are allowed to discuss the behaviour of actual men?

Silencedwitness · 11/11/2019 18:58

Told feminist friend and her response was “but you’re not in one room altogether, you have cubicles”. Fuck sake. My mum has also told me to stop ramming it down her throat. This is after a very brief conversation. Some women just don’t get it.

HumberHellraiser · 11/11/2019 18:59

Yes these are Male customers who have registered and commented as such.

Getting nice and comfortable in a changing room near you.

Campervan69 · 11/11/2019 19:05

Good God what is wrong with men?????

Orangecake123 · 11/11/2019 19:05

Well done guys- you're doing a fab job!

Last year I also bought and gave their large Scottish shortbread tins as Christmas gifts to two people.

Closer to december I'm ordering from the shortbread house of Edinburgh.

Sexnotgender · 11/11/2019 19:18

Fucking hell, those reviews! These creepy blokes are coming to a changing room near you soon.
