I know we have 'known' this for a while, but this is now their official response. How many 'inappropriate' incidents will be necessary before they see sense?

Yes, but they seem to get it spectacularly wrong on who actually holds the household spending power, in the main.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 01/11/2019 10:51

a wiser MNer than me said in a thread a while ago that if self ID goes through she will start to use men's facilities because all predators will have a green light to use the ladies. The men's could actually be safer

This thought had occurred to me. Essentially women will be left with two options.

1- the mixed sex facilities labelled 'men's' where the men who respect women's boundaries will be

2- the mixed sex facilities labelled 'women's' where the men who do not respect women's boundaries will be

Decision, decisions.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 01/11/2019 10:54

Arnold either way I foresee a weird Benny Hill-esqe scenario where whichever we choose these individuals decide that's where they want to go now and duly toddle along after us Grin

Ninkaninus · 01/11/2019 10:58

My OH (a high earner) does all his clothing and toiletries shopping in M&S and Matalan, having decided no longer to wear branded goods/designer. He feels even more strongly than I do (if that’s possible) that corporations should not be dictating to the public on causes/morality/woke idiocy, and I can guarantee you that he will not buy a scrap from them once I tell him they’re on our boycott list. He will quite happily kit himself out head to toe in Matalan, indefinitely, once I say the word.

Poor move, Marks and Spencer. However long it takes you to reverse this policy, I will wait three times as long before I buy anything from you again.

Nink I’ve got my eye on this for my fireplace.

Aldi also do good Jo Malone style candles and I’ve read on here that Primark are good dupes too.

Floisme · 01/11/2019 11:04

M&S could just announce some Unisex for all those not bothered, those not sure where they should go, families with different sex children etc job done
You do have to wonder what's been going on behind the scenes for M&S to ignore such an obvious and sensible solution. They can't even argue they don't have the space for additional 'third space' changing rooms - their stores are cavernous.

It would also have forced TRAs to admit their concerns are more to do with validation than with safety or comfort.

Sparklfairy · 01/11/2019 11:05

ArnoldWhatshisknickers I said it upthread and I'll say it again. Our protestations and extensive evidence that our safety fears are real have gone and will go ignored. The men people making these decisions are not the ones who get directly affected by the consequences.

I really do think that the only way to be heard is to disrupt men's spaces the way women's spaces are being disrupted. I for one will be looking for opportunities to use men's spaces without reprimand or consequence as has been happening to us for years. I just want to pee after all.

CheeryB · 01/11/2019 11:12

Debenhams have a good range of candles including pure soy wax ones. I bought two yesterday - it's right next door to m & s in my town.

Sleepyhead19 · 01/11/2019 11:19

In my local marks, the lingerie changing rooms are only for women, for the simple reason that women and teenage girls are getting bra fits. There are women’s and men’s changing rooms which can be used for those identifying as the opposite sex. Personally, I hate this and do not feel comfortable about it. I think there should be a couple of unisex changing rooms for those who identify as something other than the gender they were born, however there is nothing we can do about it as we constantly pander to minority groups now, no matter how uncomfortable or unsafe it might make us feel.

Silencewitness · 01/11/2019 11:25

Does anyone have the email address of the CEO? I’ve tweeted a lot about it but I’d like to add an email.

happydappy2 · 01/11/2019 11:27

M&S website has a live chat option-you can raise yr concerns there directly-if anyone wishes to

NekoShiro · 01/11/2019 11:32

just a heads up, I work for another big fashion brand that is bringing in unisex changing rooms next year and rolling out to all stores, this is the way everythings going,

It's just easier for the stores to have one big changing room instead of multiple smaller ones, our mens changing room is always empty while we have a queue of ten ladies waiting to get into the womens and we're getting men from the back of the queue and letting them cut in line cus technically there's space for them

Ninkaninus · 01/11/2019 11:37

Well that’s another retailer I won’t go to. I’m fine though, I’ll just have to do more of my shopping on eBay.

My daughters deserve better than this though. Fuck this shit.

Sparklfairy · 01/11/2019 11:38

Loose women have picked this up

TheShoesa · 01/11/2019 11:39

But Loose women will likely take the

'it's a lockable cubicle, who cares, what's your problem?'

line I'd imagine (given that India Willoughby is one of the panel from time to time.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 01/11/2019 11:41

So technically a M&S bra fitter could be compelled to serve a customer who - well, doesn’t really need a bra?

Do they have a union?

Matereality · 01/11/2019 11:41

NekoShiro I'm disappointed but not surprised to hear this.

Sparklfairy · 01/11/2019 11:43

TheShoesa actually itv are running an online poll and it's 77% against atm

Silencewitness · 01/11/2019 11:44

People don’t care until it directly effects them or someone close to them it feels like. If it’s a lockable cubicle they can use the ones in the men’s.

Dangerfloof · 01/11/2019 11:45

Some studies have suggested that women's violence against men is far more prevalent than is reported because of the shame males feel that they are beaten by a woman
Many many studies show that women under report rapes. What is reported is the tip of the humongous iceberg. I can tell you now that if we leave out my childhood because it's not relevant and wouldn't get counted, I have been raped multiple times. I have never reported them, not because of shame, because I know, most women know, nothing will be done. At all.

Dangerfloof · 01/11/2019 11:47

Meant to add, if we extrapolate my experience which is not unusual across even mumsnet, that's a lotta unreported rapes.

OrchidInTheSun · 01/11/2019 11:53

Silencewitness: [email protected]

TheShoesa · 01/11/2019 11:55

That's interesting Sparklfairy but it will most likely change once it starts getting spammed.

I'm loathe to say anything more as last time I made similar comments on a poll I was contacted off the boards about being goady!

Akire · 01/11/2019 11:58

Wow my first ever strike and deletion for repeating what a transwomen said on radio as transphobic! Oh the irony.

Akire · 01/11/2019 11:59

So it’s fine that it was said on live radio to millions of people but me repeating it meant I had be punished. Really don’t get it.
