Jameela Jamil being iconic

I love this woman. Constantly campaigning, body positive intersectional feminist.

“When one critic claimed trans women “are erasing women’s rights” and told Jamil to “sit down”, the body-positivity campaigner replied: “Why don’t you sit down? I am a full time feminist activist. I am also a trans advocate, and I in no way see trans women as ANY threat to our fight.
“To include them is true feminism. The propaganda against them makes them appear to be interrupting our cause, but it’s nonsense.”

If only more people were like her 🧡

Oh, you're totally right it is Ash Sakar Blush

allmywhat · 30/10/2019 11:06

I started off liking her body positive stance. Then I saw the TWAW stuff and thought she was possibly sweet but just a bit dim.

And now she's gone full on hectoring handmaiden. It's a shame.

It's fucking fascinating IMO. After she started doing the body positivity stuff (which I liked too) she got jumped on by TRAs again and again for very minor, possibly invented on the spot infractions of wokeness.

And every time she issued a grovelling "I will learn and do better" type apology.

Someone who studies cult indoctrination should download her whole Twitter, because I think it could be an invaluable real-time record of brainwashing.

She started off caring about women and standing up for women, and that made her a target. She kept getting piled on and publically shamed, and now she doesn't care if she hurts and offends women (as the cervical cancer stuff shows) and is very careful at all times to prioritise transwomen's egos over women's wellbeing and safety.

I think this process has happened to a lot of women who are publically feminist - the Sady Doyle thread started me thinking about it. It's really sad.

allmywhat · 30/10/2019 11:10

Also OP I think your thread title has a typo, you should contact MNHQ and ask them to change "iconic" to "a tedious wokescold."

sheshootssheimplores · 30/10/2019 11:10

I really like her but don’t agree with everything she says. I love the shit she gives the Kardashian clan. As though they need the bloody cash and yet they still peddle laxative coffee.

Qcng · 30/10/2019 11:59

Who is she?
Is she American?

DuMondeB · 30/10/2019 12:06

She comes across as being awfully similar to her Good Place character - Tahani raises lots of cash for right-on causes motivated by jealousy and hatred of her more talented sister.

I see Jameela has been misgendering people on twitter by calling them "cis". She needs to denounce herself and report for re-education, stat, as we all know that's the Worst Crime In The Universe.

HebeMumsnet · 30/10/2019 12:20

Morning, everyone. We've had to delete a few posts for troll hunting on this thread. We just wanted to remind everyone of the rules as, if there are too many deletions, we may have to take the entire thread down.

Could we stick to debating the article quoted in the OP rather than the intentions of the OP themselves? Thanks!

OkayGoooouuuuuullllll · 30/10/2019 12:30

JJ has absolutely no idea.

TinselAngel · 30/10/2019 13:32

I am a full time feminist activist.

How does one get a job like this? I'd like to apply.

HandsOffMyRights · 30/10/2019 15:51

Wonder if being a full-time feminist activist out trumps the 'Uber feminist' that Baroness Featherstone claims to be, while throwing women under the bus, something Jamelia does rather well too.

The self-styled 'Full-time feminist activist' equals the new 'does a lotta work for charidee' Smashy and Nicey tokenism.

ScepticShrew · 30/10/2019 16:55

I think there's a typo. You did mean 'ironic'? She's become a real disappointment hasn't she? She was doing some great things on body positivity and then went off the rails on the trans stuff. I think Los Angeles has got to her & now it's all about followers and being an influencer and jumping on whatever seems to get attention. There's nothing like attacking other people to get that. Hence her going for Kardashian, Piers Morgan, etc, both of whom I have no time for but I've got better things to do than bother tweeting them. All the woke points building up for the next career move but it's got nothing to do with feminism.

LangCleg · 30/10/2019 17:11

Dear Jameela

Feminism is not a brand you can use to promote your social media profile.

She's an idiot.

Feminism is for biological females only. The clue is in the name FEMinism.

I enjoyed her in The Good Place, then found out about her work for "body neutrality" - I think that's the term she used, and I support that and think it's great. I discovered that we share a medical condition, so I was quite a fan of hers. Then I read her tweets. "We don't say "blind spot" anymore darlings. It's ableist" was the nail in the coffin for my love affair with Jameela.

OvaHere · 30/10/2019 17:25

I love The Good Place but I realised after joining Twitter she is pretty much playing herself.

Needmoresleep · 30/10/2019 18:16

She was awful on the Radio 1 chart show, which we used to listen to as a family because we liked Reggie and Fern. She always struck me as a fairly typical product of small central London girls private schools, in her case Queens College. Lots of confidence and entitlement without that much to justify it.

Doobigetta · 30/10/2019 20:37

It would appear that Jameela doesn’t understand the meaning of “full time”, “feminist” or “activist”. I suppose that’s only to be expected if “woman” is tricky.

BeMoreMagdalen · 30/10/2019 22:10

OP not returned? I was looking forward to reading more doe eyed admiration for the sterling work Jameela does as a full time feminist activist.

GCAcademic · 30/10/2019 23:02

I think you misspelt “idiotic”, OP. You can ask the moderators to amend your thread title.

Creepster · 31/10/2019 01:17

I am also a trans advocate, and I in no way see trans women as ANY threat to our fight.
“To include them is true feminism.

Transgender advocacy organizations have repeatedly stated that women's rights are anti-trans. The only way to not see this is to refuse to look.
These full time professional feminists like Sady Doyle and Jameela Jamil appear to have forgotten, or simply do not care, that Feminism is the political movement for the liberation of women.
Liberation from the servitude they are advocating in their "true feminism".

StopThePlanet · 31/10/2019 01:24

I like The Good Place but I really dislike JJ's character. Her character is clueless, privileged, predictably self-serving, whose entitlement and narcissism is unbearably grating. The other characters grow/evolve while hers is unsurprisingly stagnant and one-dimensional.

Take it as you will.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 31/10/2019 08:06

Narconympho. Cool user name.

Ereshkigal · 31/10/2019 08:18

^These full time professional feminists like Sady Doyle and Jameela Jamil appear to have forgotten, or simply do not care, that Feminism is the political movement for the liberation of women.
Liberation from the servitude they are advocating in their "true feminism".^

They've appropriated it to form some sort of weak catch-all social justice movement. Because it was only ever going to be women who would be expected not to centre our own needs in our own liberation movement.
